I know there are two other threads going, but I didn't want to derail them.

When I spoke with a guide (we're friends) a few months back, I asked him about contract extensions since I own at BCV. He said they were discussing different ways to do it, but weren't going to rush into anything. Basically, if they came up with a good idea they would move forward, but they didn't feel the need to rush into anything. (admittedly this was during the last regime so things could have changed)

With GF points coming in around $200, I think Disney will eventually do something to address the widening gap between direct and resale points. (purely for financial reasons and to get a share of the resale market; not to preserve value for members) Could they institute a trade-in program for new purchases? If I wanted to buy at GFV, could I trade in other points for a fixed value, and apply that to the new purchase? For example, GFV is $200, and they gave me a $70-80 credit for my BCV points toward the purchase, so I would only pay $120-130 for GF. That means they would register a sale of GF points and reclaim BCV points for another sale at $125. They could sell the BCV contracts with an extended date like they do with OKW now.

Would this work? I could see some interest in a program like that. You could buy new points at a resale rate, and still retain direct-sale benefits, buy into a new, upper-tier membership, and extend your DVC term.

I kind of think it would be like trading your car in to a dealer. They will offer you a price way lower than if you sold it yourself.

DVC won't want to pay you $70-80 per point for BCV points. They'd want them at closer to $0-25 a point.

Way back when (1997 when they were no longer offering park admission along with purchase), we were given a credit on our down payment for our stay in the Polynesian on that trip. And we gave back some points for the first year. It brought our price down to about $50 a point and they were selling for a bit higher at that time.

Agree on the pricing...DVC would never offer terms that knowledgable members considered favorable.

Going back a few years, there were reports of DVC quoting a price to buy-back BCV points direct from the member. This was at a time when BCV resales were pushing $100 per point. DVC was offering $50.
