I know there are two other threads going, but I didn't want to derail them.
When I spoke with a guide (we're friends) a few months back, I asked him about contract extensions since I own at BCV. He said they were discussing different ways to do it, but weren't going to rush into anything. Basically, if they came up with a good idea they would move forward, but they didn't feel the need to rush into anything. (admittedly this was during the last regime so things could have changed)
With GF points coming in around $200, I think Disney will eventually do something to address the widening gap between direct and resale points. (purely for financial reasons and to get a share of the resale market; not to preserve value for members) Could they institute a trade-in program for new purchases? If I wanted to buy at GFV, could I trade in other points for a fixed value, and apply that to the new purchase? For example, GFV is $200, and they gave me a $70-80 credit for my BCV points toward the purchase, so I would only pay $120-130 for GF. That means they would register a sale of GF points and reclaim BCV points for another sale at $125. They could sell the BCV contracts with an extended date like they do with OKW now.
Would this work? I could see some interest in a program like that. You could buy new points at a resale rate, and still retain direct-sale benefits, buy into a new, upper-tier membership, and extend your DVC term.
