Anyone having success in trading DVC into Ka'anapali Beach Club on Maui? We have a week in Kauai in Jan 2012 and thought about putting in an RCI trade to Ka'anapali Beach Club on Maui. Anyone want to guess my chances of it coming through? Will eleven months out be enough?

I've traded in but not using RCI or DVC. I doubt you'll have much luck and if you do, almost certainly for 1 BR units only. Still it never hurts to ask. You should also talk to some of the independent exchange companies like Trading Places Int, Trading Place Maui (different co), San Francisco Exchange, HTSE and Dial an Exchange. I know TPI and SFX used to get a lot of units at this resort before Diamond was involved, not sure now.

Thanks Dean I'll check the other companies out. I've been looking at redweek too. This trip a one bedroom will be fine as our DS & DIL might only be with us for a couple of nights so they can visit one of their friends on the island. For Maui what other resorts do you recommend? This would be our first time on the island.

I've tried to locate any time available at the resort but never found anything available.

Since you asked for other resorts in Maui, the best ones (in my opinion) are the Westin or the Marriott but I believe those only trade with I.I. I think the Westin is so nice we just bought (resale) a Oceanfront 2 bedroom -- might be the only way to easily get in.

Another recommendation: It's a lot of points, but the Grand Wailea is our favorite resort on the island. Have you tried that one? I'd recommend using your points for the cheapest room and then purchase a upgrade at check-in (if available). The resort is so expensive, and I feel the value is decent to use our DVC points for the experience.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info on the Grand Wailea, I was wondering if it was worth the high point cost or not. I was looking at the rentals on redweek for the Marriotts and Westins, but there aren't too many listings for Jan 2012 yet so I'll keep an eye on those.

I agree that the Westin and Marriott timeshares on Maui are nice, but yep, they trade through I.I. now. I think your best bet for a week in January is to rent/trade. It shouldn't be hard to find a rental. Good luck!

This is the only resort on the DVC list that I would accept and the only RCI resort on the island that I'd consider reasonable to spend the amount of DVC points for. However, there are other resorts I'd consider for less points. One of the advantages of the independent's is that they open you up to both additional resorts AND additional inventory. I got 2 units the same week a few years ago through SFX at KBC. For high demand options often the best approach is to simply rent out your points and pay cash for what you want. Not something that sits well with many DVC members but it's about the safest, best chance of success and cheapest option to do so. Another independent I left off is Platinum Interchange. Last I heard they didn't have a membership fee and allowed search first.
