Tracking The Tropics

We sailed earlier his year and were also headed for a TS. The captain stayed away from it all at night there were periods of downpours but nothing to stop us. The kids still swam in the rain. The boat was rocky, but my husband said that was all in my head. Either way, you are on a Disney Ship!!
Disney will keep you safe.

This should stay updated with the current 5-day forecast track:

We are leaving this Saturday and hoping all goes well!

I'm beginning to wish we weren't going. I have visions of rough seas and lots of rain.

The site I use for tropical weather info is Hardcore Weather.

They have a tropical weather section and start a separate thread for each (potential) storm. A lot of meteorologists post on there. Very good (and detailed) info. Like the other sites posted, they stick to the facts about the weather, and leave the drama out of it.

I agree with the other posters that you shouldn't worry too much about storms. They will avoid going into the direct path of a storm, and will change itineraries if necessary to keep everyone safe.

Enjoy your cruise!

This one is going to be a "fun" one to watch. Yesterday the models were starting to trend to the right, now this morning's runs are starting to track to the left again. Still really too early. And a lot is going to have to do with a ridge building in and how far south it goes.

We are watching too, we are on the Saturday Fantasy.

Of course the Captain will make sure we don't sail into the storm, that's not the issue. And the cruise will be nice no matter what.

But we like the ports of call and hope we can go to them all.

Last year we did a back to back on the Dream bracketing Irene. We missed out on the 2nd CC day and instead had 3 days in Nassau! It got old.

Looks to me like Isaac will not be too much of an issue for our cruise. Ship will likely just swing east a bit and then head down to St. Maartin and Thomas behind it. My concern is for the tropical depression behind it affecting the ports, and if there will be any damage to them and to CC.

We all knew it was a risk, just hoping it doesn't change things too much.

Yep - we are on the Fantasy too and I'm concerned about both storms.

Travel agent just told me we get no refund if we reschedule the cruise. I wish we could push it out and stay home. The last week has been bumpy for me and I'm not in the mood to sail into a hurricane.

The Captain will NOT direct the vessel into a hurricane, so don't let that be your concern. They will make whatever changes necessary to avoid the storm.

I know we aren't sailing into it - I'm just assuming that the seas will be rougher where ever we are and I don't do well in rough seas. The rest of my family will be ok. I'm considering sending them without me.

Well. It looks like I may need to make a hurricane kit this year, after all. Time to go stock up on batteries and bottled water.

I really hope that other TD over by Africa doesn't follow Isaac and hit our house while we're on the Fantasy! That would ruin my vacation for sure, worrying about my empty house while I'm not there :scared:

When we were on the 2008 EB Panama Canal cruise TS Fay sat over our home and dumped 20 inches of rain. Luckily all was well. While we tried to keep tabs with what was going on we didn't really worry about it too much.

20 inches! My house would probably float away :rotfl: My neighbors will take care of things, I've just never been away from home during a hurricane.

Half of the (admittedly morbid) excitement is watching the weather channel as the storm approaches. Especially the crazy reporters: "Well, Bob and Sue, it's EXTREMELY dangerous out here. The winds are strong enough to knock you down. Flying debris could hit you at any time. I'm going to stand here in this hurricane to show you what you at home should absolutely NOT be doing."

Will they have the weather channel on the cruise? :lmao:

We are on the 8/29 dream. I am worried about our drive down next Tuesday.
So not only will we have to pack for a cruise, we have to hurricane proof our house before we go!! Just get me to the ship and I don't care where we go!!!
