Friday I will be sailing on the Dream, anyone else sailing this weekend and getting nervous about this little "disturbance" called Iaasc that is developing off the coast of Africa? Weather.Com just reported that if if it builds fast northern winds will take it north, possibly through Bermuda. If it stalls and takes time to build and develope looks like San Juan or the East Coast of Florida could be affected. Either was does not appear to be a dry weekend in the Bahamas.

We will still make the best of it, i'd be much happier without Iaasc in my vacation plans!

I'm on this cruise also. I've actually been avoiding watching the weather channel in hopes that if I don't see it a storm won't actually appear. Well I have no clue but hopefully it won't affect the cruise and if it does I hope we at least have one good day at CC.

Leave the weather watching to the Captain. Disney (or any other cruise line) will not sail into a storm. That's one of the great things about a cruise vacation as opposed to going to a Caribbean island - the ship can get out of the way.

Since you lived in Orlando you should know it's too far out to really know what is going to happen.

This is the best site for your tropic needs: http://flhurricane.com/ Good info with none of the drama.

It way to early to worry............and as the other posters said, Disney will do what is needed to be done to avoid the storm.

The site I use for tropical weather info is Hardcore Weather.

They have a tropical weather section and start a separate thread for each (potential) storm. A lot of meteorologists post on there. Very good (and detailed) info. Like the other sites posted, they stick to the facts about the weather, and leave the drama out of it.

I agree with the other posters that you shouldn't worry too much about storms. They will avoid going into the direct path of a storm, and will change itineraries if necessary to keep everyone safe.

Enjoy your cruise!

Yep - we are cruising this weekend too. Sat on the Fantasy. My biggest concern is sea sickness. Second - we pre-booked some diving in St. Thomas and St. Maarten. I've contacted the dive shops and they are being flexible with us.

We've been planning this trip for 14+ months. I am nervous.

Several years ago, gosh going on 10, we sailed the Magic out of Port Canaveral and we could see the hurricane off in the distance heading towards us. The captain just steered us around the entire storm. The itinerary remained the same with the stops. But we had to rearrange the stops to make sure we docked before or after the storm had passed a certain area. It was not a big deal. My poor step daughter's mom was having a small melt down though because she couldn't reach us and was going off the original itinerary thinking we were right in the middle of the entire thing. Not to worry.

Whenever we book a cruise and we hear that weather may move through during our sail date; we just look at it as a potential mystery cruise. We were very lucky back in August 2004 for my DW 40th birthday cruise, we squeezed in between hurricanes. We could see the damage to the area as we flew into Orlando (blue tarps on many roofs), got our Poly stay and cruise in; and unfortunately Florida was hit again.

We would be just fine with a mystery cruise if that is what it ends up being for future cruises, it goes with the territory if you love to cruise. We can only pray that areas hit have minimal damage.

I'm sorry guys - it's my fault. :) As soon as we booked this cruise, I said I hope we don't get caught in a storm again in late August.... We are on the 5 night 8/24 Dream too. We had the fortunate opportunity to cruise on the Magic during Hurricane Francis in late August 2004. Our 7 night western turned into a 10 night western that included Costa Maya for fun and the Port of Galveston for more food and fuel (both before they actually went to those ports). Oh we also came back to Fort Lauderdale as Port Canaveral was deemed unsafe. Best part - those three nights didn't cost us a dime. Funny thing - it did not rain the entire cruise except that day we got off the ship.

On the same cruise with you! I think we will be ok. This is nothing new for the captains. Either way it will be an adventure! Happy sailing!

Thought I'd pass this along. I just talked to someone at Disney Cruise Line. She said I was the 4th person in a row to call about the weather. LOL

They are monitoring the storms but no changes to upcoming itineraries as of now. We will receive a phone call if they change the itinerary before we sail.

Latest from NOAA looks good, this is what they say about potential Isaac:

1. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A WEAK AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE ARE LOCATED NEAR THE NORTHEASTERN COAST OF MEXICO. THE
CENTER OF THE ELONGATED CIRCULATION HAS MOVED CLOSER TO LAND
TODAY...AND DEVELOPMENT OF THIS DISTURBANCE IS BECOMING LESS
LIKELY. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE...20 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A
TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT MOVES SLOWLY
WESTWARD OR SOUTHWESTWARD.

sorry that's not #9 (Isaac) that's actually another wave out there in the Gulf #9 is in the Atlantic

We just got off the Fantasy on Saturday and the seas were perfect! We had a small rain shower before the Pirate show and a quick rain shower in St. Thomas. Other than that, the weather was awesome and we had a great time!
