Tracfone in WDW

Has anyone used these and how do they work in the world? Also can you buy airtime cards somewhere close?

I've had one for about 3 years. It has worked fine wherever I've used it, but I have not taken it to WDW (we just use the 2 way radios there). You pay double minutes when you're outside your roaming area. You can purchase airtime cards at a lot of places - Best Buy, Walmart, 7-11 to name just a few. I think on the tracfone web site they have a list of all the places you can purchase air time. You can also purchase air time on their web site. You often get an incentive deal if you purchase the air time on their web site.

We have tried using out Tracfone's at WDW on numerous occasions and they never do work well. It is tough to get a signal and darn near impossible in AK. As the other poster mentioned....you do pay double minutes as your phone is in "roaming". It is frustrating at best......

We took our 2 tracfones to WDW in July and they seemed to work pretty well. I don't remember having any problem getting a signal in the MK or at DTD. Didn't try it at AK though

I've used mine in WDW but as with other phones it is sometimes hard to find the sweet spot to get good reception in the parks. You can also call and add minutes to your phone if you need to.

I have heard others solve the roaming issue with these phones by changing their home area to WDW while on vacation and then switching back when they return home. I think you can change your area a couple of times a year without a problem. I've never done this because I don't use my cell on vacation unless it's an emergency.
