Tracey Arm Fjord and Glacier Adventure

I booked it, but after a family meeting this morning, I cancelled it. It looks great, but...the last time I was one a boat like that was whale watching & I got super sick, so I don't want to do that again. What's pictured isn't a catamaran, so I don't want to go not totally sure what we'd be getting on. And finally, we all hate the cold, so the whole trip is a huge stretch for us as it is...I'll stay on my veranda bundled up And btw...totally agree, thanks op for posting so we knew this was even an option!

I live in north Idaho. I found Tracy Arm to be chilly. My son and daughter-in-law live in Las Vegas. They found it to be frigid. :rotfl:

There are places to watch from indoors, should you be too cold. And with a veranda, you can always duck into the stateroom to warm up any time you feel the need.

Good to know! Coming from Wyoming, I tend to take the temp warnings with a grain of salt. But we should be similar to you, so we'll take more than we might need. lol

My profile picture is on deck 4 in Tracy Arm. I'm wearing just a sweatshirt. (Well, and pants... lol) That was fine for most of Tracy Arm. Up closer to the glacier, it was actually a bit chilly (you're basically in a giant ice box, after all), but still nothing compared to a Wyoming winter!

(And for you warm-weather folks, my son was wearing a few layers, and a knit hat, and was cold. :-) )

Needless to say, it was easy to tell who came from what sort of climate.

Hopefully, someone will chime in and let us know if there are other photo ops of M&M in their Alaska gear during the cruise. I was thinking about upgrading from my porthole cabin to a veranda just for Tracy Arm Day, but now there is no need!

they were posing for pictures in their Alaskan outfits on Day 2 - at sea. It was during the gold and platinum castaway reception at 4:00pm - Goofy Pool Stage on Deck 9 midship. (we received an invitation letter in our stateroom) The reception was roped off, but they arrived near the end and did pose with a few outside guests once the reception was over. Other characters were outfitted and on deck nearby for pics around the same time.

So your saying that being from so cal & thinks no the low 70's is cold we will be totally out of our comfort zone? Brrr! Should I pack those pocket warmers?

Ha ha. Yes.

I looked back, and the day we visited Tracy Arm (July 1, 2014), the high in Juneau was 65. It was well below that back by the glacier.

For reference: for me, 65 F means lightweight windbreaker, probably unzipped.

I agree about the temps in Tracy Arm. If the sun is out, it can warm up comfortably. We were there on May 27, 2015.
Most layered a lightweight jacket over a hoodie or fleece and eventually removed the jacket. It became a beautiful day with high temps in the low-mid 60's.

If you look up the definition of a Fjord - a long, narrow, deep inlet of the sea between high cliffs, as in Norway and Iceland, typically formed by submergence of a glaciated valley, you'll gain a much better understanding of Tracy Arm.

It's absolutely breathtaking!

I would have loved an excursion to get closer to the glacier like this one. Would definitely have booked it if we had the chance. We envied all the small water craft in the area that day.

Can't wait to hear all about it.

I just signed up for the June 20th cruise - excursion just added one week ago! Thanks for the tip!

I can't wait to hear everyone's experience with this excursion!! I have a feeling it will be very popular.

I'm starting to regret my decision to book us into two rooms now, LOL. I don't think we will have a problem getting the excursion for our Platinum room but our other room is only Gold so we will have to hope we can add it for those family members when their date opens. I would love to hear from people this summer if the excursion sells out and approximately how many people are able to join.

@jetskigrl we're only lowly little silver :sad1: I only need two wee spots - we'll leave our kids in the kids club for this one! I can even sit on my husbands' lap!!:worship:

I'm guessing that DCL is contracting this port adventure with Allen Marine Tours. The "Tracey Arm Fjord and Glacier Explorer" tour description on Allen Marine Tours website is pretty much identical to DCL's description of this port adventure. The vessel pictured in the tour slide show looks like the 78-foot catamaran that can hold 140-145 people.

Here's the page for it from the Disney cruise website:

I agree..

That description per the DCL link bcwife76 posted does mirror Allen Marine Tour Company's information which is no guarantee, but might possibly be their charter: http://www.allenmarinetours.com/sightseeing/juneau/tours/glacier-fjord/

we are on the June 27th cruise and there aren't any adventures available our Tracy Arm day..
Hi,
We are on the 6/27 as well and I just booked this excursion. Very confuse is our 1st Alaskan Cruise and DH thinks we are going to missed the boat experience on this inside passage. Any thoughts?

What is he afraid of missing? This is our first cruise and first time to Alaska. I'm coming to terms with the fact that we aren't going to do it all and we will likely have to come back!

It is true, looks like too much for one 1 week. I guess we had our mind set on the view from the ship and the activities on the deck and now with the excursion is another decision to make.
