Welcome to my trip report!!!!

The trip was filled with highs and lows..a lot of lows as I will explain, but we did have a trip filled with memories that we will never forget!!

Please join me on the 5 day trip that was filled with a Centra Care visit, termination, food poisoning, and bed bugs..oh my!!!

Me: Megan

I worked at WDW from Jan 2008-May 2009 and remained seasonal until May 2010. I worked at BBB from Jan-May 2008 in the college program (CP), worked as a Professional Intern (PI) at AK from June 2009-Feb 2009, and then seasonal at BBB from Feb 2009-May 2009. I'm currently a Pre-K teacher in Cincinnati, OH, trying to pass my state boards to move back to FL and teach!!

Katie: (K for the TR)

She was one of my 5 roomies when I did the college program. She lived with us after the CP and worked seasonally at DHS CS. She currently is teaching in FL and is still seasonal with WDW.

Meghan: (M)

She was one of my roomies when I did my PI and worked at AKL as the Savanna guides manager intern. She currently is living in CT and is still applying for museum type jobs in NYC and DC.

and finally

Jenny: (J)

She was one of my co-CMs when I worked at AK for the PI. She lived in the same vacation home complex as us and was my car pool buddy! She currently lives in Chicago and works as an educator at the aquarium.

Welcome To The Trip Report!!

Just by the title, you can tell that a trip supposed to be filled with good lasting memories..was not. From before I even left for WDW until well after I got home, we were haunted with bad things and sad times. They say anything can happen on Halloween right??? Well..I'd rather it not!!

I won't keep you all waiting so why not get the bad over first and then get to the good??!! Normally, I wouldn't start out a TR with such rocky issues but here goes...

Centra Care..

Before I even left for WDW, J has already been to Centra Care. I won't go into the medical issue that she had but we were uncertain if she would be allowed to swim or go in the hot tub! She did go, was in and out within an hour, got meds, and was able to swim..that ended somewhat happy and thank goodness for insurance!!!

Termination..

We all hope to never face it..especially at WDW but for my brother, one simple mistake turned into one of my worst memories at WDW now.

Yes, you read it right, termination and that is what happened to him, not even 10 hours after I got to WDW. I got a call on 10/23 at 10:30 am, while in line for GMR and was told my brother self terminated. He had to be out by 9am on 10/23 but none of the timeline seemed right..neither did the tone in his voice. It turns out he was terminated for breaking curfew. He was with a co-cm and forgot to set an alarm to be out by 1am, forgot, and got a knock on the door at 3:30am. They were both termed later that morning. It's a horrible lesson to learn and would have never been an issue if he was a PI (you get your own housing) but rules are rules and he was told he could reapply in 12 months. My dad (for the moment) has kicked him out of the house and he has been living with friends in the Pittsburgh area. He's supposed to come home today to unload some things out of his car so we shall see...
From my PTR now..it all make sense ya? For the time being, our Dec trip has been put on a hault of sorts. We canceled his CM reservation and were lucky to snag a Free Dining Courtyard view w/Bunk Bed at WL but now the debate is who is all going or is allowed to go...stay tuned for the drama!!

Food Poisoning..

This happened to poor Meg. Well, we're not really sure if that's what it was or if it was just a combo of heat exhaustion, not drinking a ton of water, and not eating a lot of food but she left us on 10/23 and spent the evening in the room tending to her sick self. The rest of us enjoyed an awesome time at MK EMH but felt sorry for the girl. I did give her a ziplock "barf bag" of sorts for her to use on the bus back to the resort!

BED BUGS..

Finally, our last road block of the trip. Not sure how or why I managed to escape this..maybe God felt that with the whole termination thing that I should be spared but who knows.

J and M were attacked. Not sure how..I slept in both of their beds, M for one night, J for 2 and I slept alone one night. Their suitcases were in the same area..across the room from mine and we all 3 used dresser drawers. J is still having bites appear as of yesterday and M's have gotten better. I on the other hand..got nothing. How or Why I escaped this..I'll never know.



Well there you have it..now that I've explained the 4 major road blocks of the trip..let's get on with the good things!!!!

Ugh...bed bugs...I'm so afraid of bed bugs, now I'm going to be checking the beds at POR like a crazy person! Could you see them, or did your friends just notice they were bitten everywhere?

A few happy time. The moral of the trip was..next time we need a full day of just going to the pool and sleeping more lol.

I know We didn't see any and honestly, I didn't even think to check until J texted me saying she had bites. I know you can see them with the naked eye but it's Sat and we left on Tues and I don't have any bites or have seen any of the wicked creatures so I think I'm safe!!

DAY ONE..TRAVEL DAY

Welcome to the Official start of the Trip Report!

Details..

Dates: Oct 22-26, 2010
Reason: Free Dining and a reunion with some former CM friends!
Resort: POP..but upgraded to CSR!!
Tix: 2 Day park hoppers plus one night of MNSSHP
Dining: Free Dining!! 4 TS, 4 CS, and 4 snacks each!


TRAVEL DAY:
FRIDAY OCT 22, 2010


Well, the day started off like any normal work day for me. Sadly, I didn't want to give up 3 unpaid days of work for the trip so I opted to work 1/2 a day and then take one day paid, and one day unpaid. This would result in poor restaurant choices (IMO) and spending the day just waiting until it was my turn to arrive!

My alarm went off at 7:45am and by then, M had already been on the plane and landed in MCO at 9am. Off to work I went, worried that our upgrade to CSR would not have gone through causing a major headache for M. Well, thankfully...when M arrived at DME at 9:30am, she said that we had upgraded to CSR and they changed her bus ticket and off she went!
When she arrived at CSR, she proceeded to check-in. They had to call POP to verify the upgrade and then gave her the room keys and told her the room was ready!

She texted me at that point with the room number and off she went to AK!!

By that point, my day had just started at work and my butterflies in my tummy calmed down a bit knowing that my dear friend who works at CSR had the upgrade done perfectly We were paying POP prices to stay in Paradise..as we called it

As the day went on K arrived mid afternoon and met up with M after she checked into her room at AS Movies (which she said is her new fav AS resort).

J arrived at 1pm as scheduled, also didn't have any issues with the DME change, got her room key at CSR, and headed to...CENTRA CARE Like I said before, I won't go into details of why she went but in the end she got meds, the shuttle from CSR worked great, and she was still able to go in the pool!

I was lucky and got off work at 1:30 , a half hour earlier than I was supposed to but I took it! I went home, showered, and repacked (for the 7th time at that point) and left for the airport around 4pm:

We got to Cincinnati airport within an hour, parked, and headed to the Delta counter. It was my first time using my skymiles card (for the free bag) and it worked perfectly! I checked my one bag without a fee

After a quick starbucks trip, I kissed mom goodbye and headed to security! I sat at the gate and waited to board..

We finally got on the plane and of course it didn't take off on time. The ended up having to check ppl's luggage from the sold out flight and it took longer than expected. The flight was uneventful..the type you like and we landed 10 mins early!

I ran off the plane, to the potty, and was on the monorail in no time!

I went to baggage, waited no more than 10 mins, out it came and then I went for the longest walk of my life to DME counter. When I got to the counter, no one was in line! I told the CM about the resort change and it seemed like it took forever..15 mins to be exact. She was asking me every little question about the other girls and their ticket changes, blah blah blah. Finally she gave me my new ticket, I walked to the line, and the bus was there and almost ready to leave!

We were thankfully the first stop and from when the plane landed to when I walked into CSR was an hr and 10 mins. That's gotta be some sort of record considering I had to get my bag too!

J was at the bus when I got there and her and I headed into the lobby, put my CC on file for room charges, and headed to the room..8129!

As I was unpacking, M arrived and we all hung out. M decided to go to bed and J and I headed to the hot tub!! We went to bed around 1am. We were sooo happy to be back in paradise but paradise would soon be ruined by a call that I'd get at 10:30am the following morning

Thanks I have not heard any updates on the bed bugs from J but it's now Sunday and I think I'm in the clear. My suitcase is still outside in dark bags just for extra precautions lol

I'm not going to post an update today but just wanted to say Happy Halloween!!


As far as the WW3 goes in my parents house, it's pretty much nothing at this point. My bro was supposed to come home Thurs, didn't, Friday, didn't, yesterday, didn't. My dad's bday is today so we'll see if he shows up. My dad keeps asking when he's coming and so I think that's a good sign..hopefully??

Random ?? about our Dec trip. I called today to add on room requests (we're staying 1 night at POP and then 4 at WL) and the girl had my POP reservation, took the request for building 6 and then asked for WL request but didn't take the reservation # and said she had it even though they are sep reservations...does that sound odd to anyone??? Or maybe they are linked by last name?? The first CM I talked to couldn't even find the POP ressie number and then disconnected me so I called back and then got that.

I figured, I'd throw it out there for the Room Request Vets...

Don't know if I'm going to do a PTR for the Dec trip or not Since we don't know who's going or not and our plans really aren't that detailed at this point..I probably won't bother and will maybe just do a TR when I get back..what do you think??

UGH...OMG bed bugs are like my biggest vacation fear. I thought WDW of all places would have some way of keeping them out, but I guess even they aren't immune?! That is so freaky!

I would love to see at PTR for your Dec trip, but I understand if you choose not to. As long as we get the TR!

Thanks. Not sure what his plans are right now but if some friends of his decide to stay, he might head back down. I swear that when you first go down there you are apprehensive about living there and then it like sucks you in! Had I been able to get FT with WDW, I would have stayed as well. Now though, teaching in FL, having holidays off, and working at WDW seasonally sounds like a much better option for me and that is now my goal!

Sorry to hear about your sister Did she answer the questions with neutral answers? I hear that you can fail the test based on that and they are looking for strong responses/strongly agree/disagree. Maybe they both can try again! I'm not sure if the 12 months means 12 months or he could apply for the fall program since it was within the program when he was termed or if it means he could reapply for the spring program in Oct 2011? Oh well. At this point, he said he would be more interested in FT/PT and getting his own housing...we'll see!!

I really don't know how she answered those questions. I do know that she did it the first day they posted it for the spring program so maybe she just got too excited or whatever. She seems to have gotten over it now but she was pretty crushed, especially after she had been talking to a lot of CP hopefuls on facebook and was hoping to meet some of them. But it does sound like she wants to try again for Fall '11. Like you said, we'll see what happens!

Great start, Tink! I still feel bad for you that there were a few problems here and there, but at least you were in Disney, right?!?
