We had two Highlanders, an 04 and an 08. We bought the 04 brand new when DD was a baby, w/o thinking of the need for a third row. We loved the car. It was very functional and we never had any problems with it. It got incredible gas mileage. DH got a transfer closer to home and a raise last year (remember what those were?) so he said we could look at another car w/3rd row seats. I liked the looks of the new Highlander style, but was open to others, as in the Pilot. My Bro has one and has been very pleased with it. I checked them both out. I really liked the Highlander better, the way it handles, the safety reports, the comfort, and the 3rd row is big enough to allow DH and myself to sit, he's 6'4" and I"m 5'9". That said, he was in a nasty accident last week which totaled the 04. thank God he was driving that instead of the Honda Civic we just sold, he'd be dead I believe. A head-on collision w/a pickup. smashed the crap out of the front of the car, but the passenger cabin was completely intact, none of the windows even broke out. I hate to have to see the quality of a car that way, but it's definitely a telling sign of what you've bought. Now we're looking for a new car. Another Highlander? Maybe, he says he'd love to have another one! HTH
