I have no idea if anyone knows that Hong Kong Disneyland has just secured major funding for 30 new attractions and multiple new lands in thier Disneyland Park.

As part of the expansion they are to have a Toy Story Land and they have just released concept art and a description of this land...which is apparently the same land that the Walt Disney Studio's will be getting in 2010.

Toy Story© Land
Disney·Pixar-themed Play Area for Kids of All Ages

Andy, the young boy from the Disney·Pixar Toy Story films, has left his toys unattended in this immersive and highly themed environment, based on one of Disney·Pixar’s most popular film series. While Andy is away, the toys come to life and play...and Guests are invited to join!

Key Technology and Creative Elements
• Oversized outdoor rides and photo opportunities allow Guests to experience the different perceptions of scale, and shrink to the size of a toy.
• One attraction includes a shuttle coaster which propels Guests along a U-shaped style track.
• A drop-style parachute attraction lets Guests join a “training mission,” plunging from a 25m tall tower.
• Guests will enjoy fun, immersive and interactive environments with life-size toys.
• A themed food kiosk provides a barrel of fun snacks and refreshments and Guests can shop for Toy Story inspired collectibles at the merchandise location.

it would be great if it looked like this in the studios. its so bare looking a bit of greenery would be great. although i doubt i will go on any of those rides lol

Looks like something that would work at Thorpe park not DLRP.

Them rides just look tacky.

Thanks Cap'n - looks interesting :goodvibes

Hmm, it reminds me of that tacky fairground area in Animal Kingdom (I can't even remember what it's called which shows how underimpressed I am with it).

Being an optimist, I actually see this as a good thing. This will basically create a whole section in the studios park that will be it's 'fantasyland' if you will, and will only broaden the appeal to families of the second disney park. Whilst many would say that they would only want to see another big E-Ticket ride built instead, I can only see that the continued expansion of WDS in this way will have a positive effect on disney profits (Some people forget that they are an entertainment business!), and ultimately pool the funds for more E-ticket rides to be created for us 'big kids' :thumbsup2
The WDS in Florida is my absolute favourite park, and I can only hope that in years to come the WDS in Paris will become a "full hours" operating park, in the way that at present it shuts way before the main disneyland park in the summer months for example. I can only see this project moving towards this goal.
You obviously don't get a lot of 8 year olds on these boards, but I bet if you showed the average kid this picture they would think it was "Awesome!" (See how I got down with them there!! :rotfl:)

I agree - it also reminds me of the a bugs life land at california adventure.

The rides look like fairground rides - ok many of Disney's rides are nothing more than advanced fairground rides but they don't LOOK like fairground rides...

I'm also disappointed to see the cloning of an entire set of new attractions - I thought Disney had decided to stop that practice and to produce unique or reasonably unique attractions now.

Finally - I'm disappointed to see yet another toon area and especially in the studios. I can just about live with the toon studios bit as it at least has a studios theme, but why oh why do we need a toy story themed land in the middle of the studios?

I think a 3 step program that gets mentioned a few times in work recently (borrowed from south park but it's very fitting for Disney at the moment):

1) Introduce toons and characters to a "failing" area
2) ???????????????
3) PROFIT!

They seem so so blinded at the moment by this belief that the characters are the answer to all their problems without knowing what to do with them properly that in my opinion (and I know I'm not alone in this) it's starting to ruin the parks now because it's getting too much.

Adding a Pixar area seems long overdue and I for one can't wait. The Pixar films are by far the most popular non-POTC films of the last 15 years so it makes sense to add this to the studios and will no doubt bring in new clientel. As for the concept art, it's just that, I have faith that what we eventually get will look great and be a valuable addition to the park. For two parks that have more debt than a 3rd world country both are lucky to be getting any kind of expansion, so again, it makes perfect sense to save money by adding the same aditions to both parks. They will end up being slightly different to help them blend into the current parks and absorb the home culture. The Pixar character photo ops alone will be fantastc.

Maybe they would move Woody's Roundup here aswell. I think it would fit nicely.

Just to give a little perspective here is the first piece of concept art for Toon Studio's...and we know how good that looks these days

I cant say I'm warmed to the rides in this area (why oh why not clone the fantastic Midway Mania and tweak it they way they did Buzz) but it fits the theme of Toon Studio that's been emerging - carnival rides in the ilk of Magic Carpets and Cars Race Rally. It might be enough to move the crowds about a little better in that area. Plus with the big figures it could be quite an interesting area

I'ld also debate that getting a cloned extension from Hong Kong Disneyland is hardly horrible. Its not as good as getting a new ride but in all honesty how many of us are going to visit HK Disneyland? A cloned Disneyland itself with the fewest rides of ANY park?

The toons complaint is maybe not unreasonable but people should remember this expanse of Toonyness is only in that one area (with exception of Stitch Live and Playhouse Disney live). That said having been to DLRP the characters don't feel like a crutch, they are very popular but I have to say they were hardly pushing Mickeys Magical Party time itself nor the Stitch's Dance Party show while we were there (heck our tickets and most of the packaging on the meal and drinks we got were 15th anniversary designs). The shows are there but you wouldn't know unless you were diligent enough to check the times

Theres hints that theres an E-ticket in the works for 2012 so hopefully that'll redeem it

Good call Cap - that makes Toon Studio look little more than a local fair, and that, as you say, has turned out to look fantastic. I'm really excited - WDS is turning into a real second park rather than the slight diversion that people have viewed it in previous years.

With the regularity of Pixar films there is always the opportunity to add new character meet and greats and to add a few bits of relevant theming. While it's awesome to have the classic films and characters represented around the parks you always need to have a present presence (tee hee) in the parks and this new land gives the perfect opportunity to have that.

i agree and as far as i know this should be opening around the time of toy story 3 so i think it will become very popular.

Reminds me of beano land in Chessington, well the parachute ride does.
