Sadly with all the movie companies that can make 3d movies like pixar, disney, and dreamworks they are all jockeying for spots on the 3d projectors. I spent all day friday doing audits of the trailers for the UP release and found that the two theaters I audited had only 2 3d projectors. At the most there are only 3 projectors per theater and they have to compete. When UP was released this week the Monsters Vs Aliens was taken out. When the next 3D movie comes out in I believe end of June early July, UP will either go to one screen or be only on non 3d format.
I will say that UP and the upcoming Princess and the Frog will be Disney's gold mines with G-Force probably either dragging profits down or just barely breaking even.
When Disney was the only company making the Real D or 3D (what ever you call it) films it was easy for them to release for a long run screening. but now that the other competitors are in the mix it is going to be harder to keep their films in the 3d realm.
Anyway Thats my take. Oh and I loved the Partly Cloudy Pixar Short. That was awesome.
