I definitely think it's a lot darker than the other movies, but I still think there were plenty of laughter moments throughout the film. For me, mostly with Barbie and Ken. And Mr. Potato Head stole a scene or two. (NO SPOILERS!)

Every Disney or Pixar movie has scary moments in it. From "Snow White" (the evil queen's transformation into the witch), to "Sleeping Beauty" ("Now you will deal with ME, oh prince, and all the powers of HELL!"). And the Pixar films, too. Sid's scenes from the original "Toy Story" were creepy and scary at first, too. "The Incredibles" had a villain willing to kill children (super hero children, but kids all the same!)

The common factor for all these films is that the storyline matters, and it appeals to people of all ages, not just kids. I would not suffer the new Smurf movie I saw in the trailers if you paid me to go see it.

i loved it, i went with 5 friends and 16 kids all between 3 and 7 and every one of them sat for the entire movie without a potty break . that says alot. i laughed, i was a little scared and i cried at the end. what a wonderful movie. i would see it again

OUTSTANDING MOVIE! I'll be going back to see it. I was in a theater full of kids and adults and everyone walked out with a smile on their faces. There were cheers and applause repeatedly. It is definitely better than the other two!!! LOVED IT!

Totally agree. Outstanding. I'll be going back to see it again too. Theatre full of adults and kids. Lots of laughing, cheering and clapping.

Also Dalt. No. No one dies. The sad isn't that kind of sad at all.

We saw it last night. Great story line, great animation. Really liked the new characters. They were fit into the story very well. We all did need tissues at the end. But......I do not think it is better than either of the first two.

Oh...and loved the Pixar short at the beginning. We saw it in 3D. I would be OK seeing Toy Story in 2D, but the 3D really makes the Pixar Short.

First off I loved the movie and found myself a bit emotional as well.

But am I the only one who is a bit disturbed by the fact that thousands of kids have been hugging and loving Lotso at DHS over the past month or so perhaps falling in love with this new character. Are their hearts not going to be broken when they find out that he is an evil evil bear.:rotfl2:

I know when I go to the meet and greet with lotso I am going to want to stomp on his foot and run away.:rotfl:

My husband and I saw the movie last night --I really liked it! But I do have to say Thank goodness for these boards!! I cried at the end and felt like I was the only one but reading other posts I am not alone!
My oldest just graduated and the movie made me remember going to see the others with him when he was smaller.
I also love that we saw every age of person there, not just families with little ones.

I saw the movie last night with my teenage daughters (who COULDN"T WAIT to see this movie). We all thought it was fantastic, but the kleenex warning is real! We cried last night, and call me a softy, but when telling my DH about the movie this morning, I cried again! :sad2:

We'll definitely be going back to see it again!

I've read a lot of reviews that say TS3 is much darker and scarier than the first 2 movies and Lotso is an evil villain. I'm not sure if I should take my kids to see it now. I bought the Lotso Huggin Bear for my son, thinking he was a cuddly friend from the new movie. If my kids see that he's bad I'm sure they're not going to want to have anything to do with him. Why on Earth would Disney market a character to kids like that? I don't see any Stinky Pete or Sid dolls out there...why now?

We aren't going (trying to save money) but my mother is taking our children this afternoon.

Hopefully someone can post a review for you about how bad Lotso is. If not, I'll have my daughter give me a review to post.

We went last night, DH, me and both DSs. (16 and 22). 16 year old has had in his calendar on his Itouch since it was announced. My 22 year old was not too fond of it but he was the only one. Hubby and I held hands when all of the characters held hands together at the climax. As long as you have friends and loved ones you can make it thru almost anything.

16 year loved it so much I got a hug from him without having to ask :lovestruc (and you know at that age how hard to get those are)

Yes it is a darker but there were many kids of all ages in the theater and going out I was speaking with another dad and his 5 year old and the boy couldn't stop talking about how much he loved it.

Yes bring tissues, and if you are worried about some scenes then take your child to the 2D version instead of the 3D.

Go see it I believe you will enjoy it

Went to the midnight showing with my friend in 3-D an hour away (because I live in a town that wasn't showing it). We both laughed and cried during the movie. It was very emotional. We kept telling each other "This is why we don't throw out our toys!". We're both in our mid-twenties and have grown up with Toy Story. Personally really enjoyed the movie (minus the one part at the end if you have seen it you know what I am talking about but I will not mention WHICH part to keep this spoiler free).

Just back from seeing it. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it, just like I knew I would! I was pretty emotional the whole time, but I cried buckets at the end. Great movie. Probably my favorite Pixar movie yet.

Really loved the movie! Liked all the new toys and thought that they brought a fresh story in for them. Was a little worried it would be the same ol' story but it was a new take: laughed and cried. A fitting end.

Oh and I thought the same thing about Lotso! I expected him to be good in the end, because of the character meet and greet, nope! HMMM. But then Hubby said its just like meeting any other villian, so I guess so.

I felt the same as you did. My DH agreed with your yours about it being like meeting other villains.

We went to Toys R Us today for a Lego event. The event was right by the display of Toy Story 3 toys. DH got a kick out of Lotso hooked to the front of the garbage truck toy. (He didn't get to see the movie with us.)

Me too. I have a feeling ole' Lotso at the meet n' greets might get a kick in the shin a few times.

The movie is a bit darker, but I didn't think it was that bad. I think Snow White is much scarier. Lotso is a bad guy, but I wouldn't put him up there with Malificent or anything. I guess really young kids might be get scared, but over six, they should be okay. Our theatre was FULL of kids and I didn't see anyone taking their kid out or hear any crying or anything. And there were moments when you could hear a pin drop.

DH and I loved the movie! :thumbsup2 Same as everyone else, we've grown up with the Toy Story movies. I remember TS2 came out a year after I graduated HS. :goodvibes

TS3 is more serious and darker than the other two movies. Disney/Pixar really pushed the envelope with TS3, but in a good way.

I was really surprised to hear that Lotso is at DHS! I wouldn't want my pic taken with him.

Saw the movie which opened on my 40th birthday. I loved it and to be honest - I think it is one of the best children movies I have seen in a long time. I found parts of it emotional. My boys loved it too. Not sure what the controversy is what Lotso. Doesn't every Disney movie have an evil character in it? Anyway, it is gets an excellent rating from me....loved it.

Just saw the movie with my wife and we both enjoyed it. I love that Pixar finds a way to discuss real issues but can work it into a funny and enjoyable atmoshpere. It is fairly emotional at the end, they certainly sit on the emotional card for several minutes.

But I LOVED IT!!! Stopped at Target on the way there to buy my Lotso. He talks and everything. LOL. But that strawberry scent is down right stinky. My hubby just shakes his head. 54 and I'm still playing with toys. LOL
