Tower of Terror

The one and only time I went on this ride, I remember a fairly quick ride through "The Twilight Zone", then it dropped once, it went back up, the doors opened showing the view, then the big freefall drop. Watching a video recently on YouTube, it appears as if the ride has changed and has gotten much longer? <Was thinking of taking my 7-1/2 year old, now not so sure>

The computer system that operates the ride vehicles on Tower of Terror changes the drop sequences on every ride, so no two rides are every exactly the same. Everything up to the point where the ride vehicle starts the upshots and drops in the dark (and when the doors open at the top) is the same.

It was changed a while back so now the drops are randomized by computer, so each sequence is different, and there is more than one drop. You still go through the show, though, going up, then out of the first shaft to go forward, and then it locks you into place in the drop shaft for the drop sequence. Considering your son hasn't been on it back when it was only one drop, though, I say take him on it! Definitely tell him what it does, and maybe even show him the YouTube videos if he seems nervous.

To be honest the ride changes every time you ride it. so you could have an intense ride or a not so intense ride. the only thing that is for sure is that you will have a blast. I have seen 5 year olds go on it and I have seen 19 year olds say no to this ride. it is all about what he can handle on and not.

thank you, its actually my daughter And the YouTube video will definitely scare her from wanting to do it -- but so did Big Thunder, but once she went on it, she wanted to go on it repeatedly.

My fear about TOT, is from the first time I went on it in '95 when the car was moving around and before the drop sequences, it just seemed overall much shorter.

My fear about going on it is I tend to get slight motion sickness on jerky elevators, so I'm worried I will get it even worse on ToT. But my oldest is BEGGING me to go on it with her in Sept!

Yes it is scary for kids when they first walk in. There is a short movie telling you about the twilight zone and then there you go into the basement of the ride and get onto the ride. It's scary at first but then it's really fun.

my DD said no to this at 7 and 8 then finally tried it and now it's her favorite. It's so much smoother than a coaster

I have a child who has intense motion sickness due to a wonky vestibular system. She could get sick or not get sick at random depending on now her system is processing her surroundings. For theme parks--she takes a (non-drowsy formula) Dramamine and does fine.



All my kids tall enough enjoy this ride and it is my personal favorite of all the parks. Mine have all ridden when they were tall enough and they were well under 7 at the time.

Last time we were on ToT we had at least 5 drops. It is random each time to keep things interesting. I heard it was between 3 and 8 drops, but I have no way to confirm that. You still go through all of the other aspects of the ride first.

TOT is a candidate for best attraction on property. The theming is just terrific, and contrary to what you might think, the drops are smooth. People do scream during the ride, but at the end there's more giggling and "let's do it again" than anything else.

Yep! We live near Busch Gardens Williamsburg and visit often, my whole family rides, all the way up to my seventy something grandmother! My great grandmother rode into her eighties until the doctor literally told her that she couldn't anymore for her health! My daughter gets it in her genes I guess, haha. She typically gets mad when she isn't tall enough to ride, she isn't scared of rides at all.... But why would she be? she grew up watching her entire family ride

Excited for September, she is seven now tall enough to ride everything! She'll be thrilled! It's the only reason we aren't tacking on a Universal trip, we don't want her disappointed, we'll go in a few years when she can ride with us

I think Twilight Zone, for people who have never ridden, is about the mind games. I couldn't do the drops for several years and would still ride and then opt out of the drops just because of the stuff leading up to that elevator ride.

To the OP - I would advise that your daughter do all the stuff with the library and the boiler room and all that. If she's still not sure or wants to opt out, it's very easy. You just tell the seater Cast Member that one or two will exit and that's it. Now - she (or you and she) will be taken into an elevator but it's a regular one and she (or you and she) will be shown to the exit of the attraction right before the photo view area. There are plenty of benches for waiting and it's a hoot to watch the parties exiting.

And your daughter can do this with ALL Disney World attractions. Very easy.
