Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

I will be running but my wife will not and will be waiting for me at the after party. What is there to do during the party? Is it like normal operation during the day or is it just a few rides will be open?

According to a past list the more popular rides are open of course ToT, rock n roller coaster, Toy story, star tours, muppets 3d and the great movie ride

The after party, does anyone know if you can leave and come back? If noone comes with DD and I, will prob have to get a baby sitter and wasn't sure if I can get DD a party ticket and go get DD and come back.

I have a question for everyone that has done these races before. Would it be too much to go to Animal Kingdom the day of the race? This is my family's first trip, if that matters. The park closes at 5 that day and I was thinking maybe we could get a reservation at Tusker House for an early breakfast and scoot out a little early to chill before the race.

I just ran the Dopey in January and we hit the parks everyday. Granted the races were in the morning, 5:30 in the morning but we still hit the parks. I mean, it's Disney World and if this is your first trip, I say go all out. This isn't the Olympics and we aren't setting world records. You run for fun (and the medals of course), so you shouldn't be forced to go back to the room like you're punished. I say go with it and enjoy it all!!!

That's the plan right now. I will have 3 rest days anyway, one being the day after the race. :) One rest day will be Downtown Disney, on for the expo, and one for whatever our hearts desire!

On another topic, I hesitated telling my hubby that I registered because I'm not (wasn't?) a runner and I thought he would think I was crazy. Well this weekend he asked me why I was so determined to run and I told him about how I really wanted to run this race. He surprised me with how supportive he was! Then tonight he told me that he feels that him and the kids should be there to cheer me on when I cross the finish line.

That is a great news about the supportiveness! Glad you will have your family waiting for you at the finish line!

Thanks! I wasn't sure how he would be about it because I keep trying to drag him along with me as far as working out and changing eating habits and he has been pretty resistant. It makes me feel much better that he is encouraging. :goodvibes

That's great they will be there to support you. It's even better that you are setting the example on exercising and eating better. He is probably resistant because it is very hard to change something that you've been doing for so long. Not to mention, as someone who really seriously started taking care of himself just a couple months ago, it is more work. Not only are the workouts more work, than say sitting on the couch, but eating properly is a lot more work.

Everyone I know thinks I am crazy for signing up for this 10 mile race. But, now they are all also starting to talk about exercising themselves. Whether they actually do or not is a different story but at least they are talking about it.

Keep setting the example, that's all you can do.

That's wonderful. Plus, once there and they see all it has to offer and the other lending support, they will be into it as much as you!!!

I know exactly how you feel! I was 51 years old when I decided to do the WDW Half Marathon. I didn't tell my daughter for the longest time because her hubby had been a runner for sometime, and he was fast! (Finished Indy Half in 1:23) When I finally told her, she started to cry and said "Mom, I don't think you're crazy! I'm really proud of you!" That night when she told her hubby, his reaction was "Now she'll get that Donald Duck medal before I do!" :goodvibes

I'm hoping to get my kids involved. Thankfully they are active kids and have not adopted our bad habits!

I hope so. :) There are some local 5k's and I'm going to try to get the kids to do one with me this summer.

That's awesome! Sometimes I think our hang ups about ourselves get in the way of our relationships with people around us more than we realize. I thought for sure my hubby would give me a hard time about spending the money and choosing such a difficult (to me!) goal. His reaction was exactly the opposite. I think I need to give him more credit! :goodvibes And all of this just makes me even more determined to accomplish my goal. :)

That's awesome, I still haven't told my mom I'm doing the ToT 10 miler, mainly because I have an Orlando trip 2 weeks before so she will drill me about money and second I think she wants to do a WDW 1/2 with me so she may get upset that I am doing a RunDisney event without her.

Update: finally told my mom and she will be joining DD and I on the trip. And after getting on to me about the money she is supportive.

It feels freeing to tell doesn't it?? And their support means more than they realize I imagine. :goodvibes

For everyone that has done this before, how early should I get to the expo? I'm trying to map out my days so I can make my dining reservations on April 1. I was thinking of doing breakfast at Ohana's the day of the expo but I'm not sure how important it is to get to the expo early. In general I have a "free day" planned, meaning the expo and then whatever sounds good. Resort, DTD, whatever. I would like to make a later breakfast reservation so we could sleep in a little...

It really does, my mom called me excited about making a few reservations and now she's thinking about doing the 5k with us and she loves running expos so she's looking forward to that too

Unless the'res an item you HAVE to have, there's no need to get to the expo early at all. We don't know what kind of procedure will be in place for New Balance rD shoes, so no way to plan around that yet, if that's an item you want. Race merchandise hasn't gone terribly fast at previous TOT's, though it's always possible it'll go faster this time... though I doubt it.

But if all you NEED is you bib and race packet, go anytime. FWIW, I arrive on TOT race day and usually get to the expo around noon - there's always been plenty of merchandise available and I've never stood in line for bib/packet.

We stood in line about an hour and 15 minutes before it opened at the WDW Marathon weekend. But that was to be assured of the new shoes coming out. The process they had in place, sign up on Ipads they provided and then text you when you're up was great. We got the text, showed up and 10 minutes later were trying shoes on. I believe someone told me know that only runners will be able to purchase shoes which is how I believe it should be.

But, yeah, they had tons of merchandise and everything went smoothly. No lines for packet and shirt pickup. The only item they ran out of that I wanted was the 48.6 magnet.

Are the shirts short sleeved or long sleeved that you receive with your packet?

I *think* they are short sleeved.

The only thing that I really want is an I did it! shirt. I'm sure I could spend a ton of money there, but I would rather spend it on my family. :) I may be the only one, but I'm not a huge fan of the shoes.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I could break the bank, but spent my money on Mickey ice cream bars instead! Just got a 48.6 sticker and the shoes. They were a 'I ran my first marathon and Disney race so I bought them' item. But I do like them and they colors are wild.

Thanks for the shirt info!

That's me too. :) It's deciding on a T-shirt, LS shirt, or jacket now. Cause I could go crazy. oh, and a magnet if they have one.
Anyone remember prices on some of this stuff?

Jeeze, listen to me already.

I like the design of the shoes, but New Balance doesn't work for me - so there's no reason to buy them.
