Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

DVC rooms are ALWAYS full that weekend - low points and food and wine with the racers filling in the rest...we have a BLT reservation but I tried to change at the 7 month window and the Saturday night had limited availability almost everywhere.

Thanks, everyone. It's good to know that it's not unusual for things to be full that weekend. Good tips about the ground floor and preferred rooms. Does anyone know if the RunDisney rooms can be upgrade to the preferred category for an extra cost or if that would result in paying full price?

I stayed at CBR in June and we enjoyed it. My only complaint was that whatever building we were in (I don't remember) seemed far away from everything - pool, bus stops, etc. It seemed like we always started and ended our days with a hike. LOL I will pay the extra for preferred I think in the future.

That was my only complaint too. I think it was a mile round trip from my building to the food court. I was tired before even getting into the parks.

Preferred is definitely worth the extra $$.

I was thinking about booking a room, but I think I'll just drive to and from home/WWoS that night.

Well, I guess we're staying at Caribbean Beach for the race weekend. Initially, I wanted to rent DVC points but I was told there are no DVC studios available with points for our dates. The Swan and Dolphin is also fully booked for those dates. I called RunDisney and both Port Orleans resorts are booked for the race discount. I looked into the RunDisney prices for SSR but it's more than I can justify paying for that weekend.

Has anyone stayed at Caribbean Beach before and have positive things to say? I'd love to hear them so I can get excited about this development.

On another note, I wonder if this means that WDW will be super crowded that weekend? I'm surprised everything seems so full the first weekend of October. Maybe because Food & Wine....

I stayed there last fall for the ToT race. Honestly, it was not my favorite moderate. It is pretty large and the checking into customs and then going into Port Royal kinda bugged me. I think they could do away with the customs house and just have the main building (Port Royal) be the place to check in/out. However, it worked WONDERFULLY for the race! It isn't far from things. As mentioned though, no elevators so if you have a ton of stuff or if your legs are not going to watch to walk stairs after the race request that ground floor.

WDW will not be more crowded. DVC just fills up for race weekends. Add in that this is food and wine also and dvc owners are going to use those rooms. I had mine booked back in November and have been struggling to get my rooms to what I want since then.

Only a few of the DVC properties are host resorts this race. We're at OKW but our home is at AKL. I was hoping to stay there but it's not a host :(

CBR is ok. A bit spread out and not too many elevators, so ask for a ground floor room if you don't want to do steps after the race.

We will be at OKW for race weekend too :thumbsup2 Then we switch to BWV after the race..:goodvibes

Oh, that is true! It can be a LONG walk if you are out in Trinidad. (or a great pre race run. I think I got about 2 miles in each time I ran around the lake) Request Martinique... it was pretty close!

....

Just returned from what might be my 20-sometingth stay at CBR. :thumbsup2 Yep, I dig the place, lol! I also stayed at CBR for PHM weekend, so I can speak to it as a host resort... I had NO problems getting to and from races. I drove to the 5K and 10K over PHM weekend, but bused to the half - didn't wait for a bus going to the race, as two pulled up just as I got to my bus stop, and the bus actually waited for me leaving the race because I needed to finish my champagne and it only had a couple passengers! :rotfl:

I always request Jamaica: I book std view and find that location is great for getting back and forth to Old Port Royale. I found plenty of good food options at the food court.

It's my first choice of a mod for TOT, but I'm waiting on AP/FL rates, so I haven't booked yet.

To those of you who clarified my food / beer questions...thanks! That's awesome!

And I emailed rundisney today, to ask if my husband is able to move back to a slower corral to be with me (we hadn't submitted times because we are so different, and figured we would just start in the last corral together) He IS able to move back, so I'm going to fit in a 10K before the cut off date so we don't have to be in the last corral. Just wanted to give anyone who had that specific question a heads up :rotfl:

Yay! Maybe we'll see y'all! I have my whole crew and we're in a two bedroom. Hoping for one not too far from bus stops though.

We are in a 2 bedroom that weekend too! I put in a request of a building (I can't remember off hand) It is near hospitality though...and so I figure we would use the bus there. I wasn't sure if the RD buses ran from each stop or just from Hospitality house.

We stayed at OKW in 2011 for what was then wine and dine weekend (pre-TOT). We ran the 5k only. The RD busses did not go around to all OKW stops - so we had someone else drive us to HH at 6am to get on them - then they went back and got ready and headed to the race in their cars to watch and then drove everyone back to avoid the busses...(we were at south point area - which we love)..

I suspected as much. So I figure a room near HH is important unless we want to drive up there.

Wow that sucks. We stayed at CBR and they stopped at every one. Sad that the DVC ones don't warrant as much as a moderate :(

New to DIS forums - my wife and I will be running our 3rd ToT run. It's become an annual escape for just the two of us and the kids have fun being watched by their grandparents. I just booked my hotel at the Pop Century. We stayed there last year and loved it. Can't wait for October!

That sounds like a great tradition :)

Everybody talking about the reservations they have booked is making me jealous. I still haven't heard from any of my friends that still live in Orlando if I can stay with them for the EEC weekend in May, and there's no way I can afford a hotel room on property (I'm by myself), so I have a feeling I'm going to end up carcamping in my Element at FW for that weekend, and probably ToT weekend, too.

I haven't booked my hotel yet but I bought my plane ticket about 5 minutes ago for my trip down. I am waiting on my return price to come down, hopefully. It was at $109 last week and I was going to get it but the next day it jumped up to $193. I was so mad. Now, I will be patient and wait for one of the airlines to offer something lower.

Money is tight, I wasn't even sure I was going to be able to go, but I'll find a way to make it work. I'll probably just end up in a value resort for the weekend, which is fine. I was just hoping to try POR for this trip but I see it is full for the runDisney discount so I might be out of luck.

Weather is improving around here so I am hoping to get my first outdoor run in this week. My training schedule I picked in my runkeeper app begins 5/4 but I still wouldn't mind getting a few runs in before that.

It's been a while since I posted so I thought I would just give an update. Hard to believe that in just 6 months we will all be down there having just finished the race. It will be here before we know it.

So did everyone start making ADR's today{saturday) How smoothwas the process? I'm still not sure on my itinerary, will i still be ok in a month?

My window opens tomorrow. I want BoG but I'm not holding my breath. Think we might settle for CG and TOTW for Hallowishes.
