Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

My GPS was 13.85 after PHM. Crazy how the mileage is so off!

That's actually pretty normal, unless you run the route line the whole way which is the inside line on every corner you're going to be over 13.1,even if you do run the route line you're likely to go over due to water stops. The races are measured using that route line which is the shortest route possible on the course, pretty much every runners distance will be more.

BTW I love your tips. I have been reading the blog ::yes::
Thank you! :goodvibes

::yes:: And consider this: those highway miles are run on a very wide road. So every time you cross from one side to the other - to walk, to stop for a pic, to get some Biofreeze, to grab water, etc. - you're adding distance. As a semi-local, I'm very familiar with the roads and have a pretty good feel for where the curves and turns are, so I'm pretty good at running the tangents, but there's just no getting around the extra distance if Capt. Jack is on the far left and I'm on the far right, lol!

::yes:: Yep, you'll be well acclimated! I'm on the Gulf Coast of FL, where the hot Gulf keeps things insanely humid longer than the rest of FL and my biggest issue with TOT has been that I'm just wiped out form all of the hot, humid running by the time TOT comes around. I'm going to force myself to put in some AC'd treadmill training runs regularly this time around, just to break up the constant physical abuse of running in the heat.

I feel your pain. Honestly I do a lot if not most of my training on a treadmill, mostly by way of fans, still insanely hot but at least the wind blowing on you helps a little. But I may do the opposite and train outside more to be ready for the heat and humidity in October. But who cares, we'll be running through Hollywood at night and partying til late morning!!!!

Just so you know -or maybe everyone but me already knew :)...If you book a PACKAGE through RunDisney, you cannot pick up your tickets until you arrive and therefore cannot book FP+ until you arrive. If you separate the room and tickets, it is the same price (except you pay for the tickets now), but you will get a ticket reference number so that you can pre-book FP+. You will still pick up the tickets upon arrival, but get the "benefits".

I just spent an entire HOUR on the phone with Disney to figure all of this out, so hopefully this will save someone else the time.

I am loving the latest tips and the encouragement to go ahead and register for a 10k!

My question is .... Right now I am at the 2:00 registration with no recorded time ... By my estimate I have to run a 10k in 1:15ish to be lower than a 2:00 for the 10 miler. If I run the 10k in 1:20, will I actually be worse off than if I did not submit a time at all?

If my understanding is wrong, please let me hear it :)

:thumbsup2 I'm also planning to take it easy in the race this time; no time goal at all. I think I'll finish feeling a lot better doing that and might actually get to enjoy that party this time!

Definitely submit it, no matter what your 10K time is. No proof of time = last corral, period, regardless of your estimated finish time. With proof of time, rD (Track Shack, really) will decide what your estimated finish time is and corral you based on that. For example: I submitted a 1:16:23 10K and was placed in corral G last year (they estimated my finish time as 2:00:01.) With no proof of time, I'd have been placed in the last corral, J.

Submitting ANY time is better than no time. A friend ran a 10k over the 16m/m mark and submitted it worried she would be in the last corral at PHM. She was about fourth from last and another friend submitted no time but had an expected 2 hour finish time and was in the last corral.

Apparently I did not know this either. Why is booking a package through runDisney any different then when you book a package directly through WDW. You don't get tickets in hand for those packages but can book FP+. I guess I will be dealing with them for an hour, but not today. Today has already been wasted dealing with Comcast.

A few pages back someone called RunDisney and was told that after you pay off your package in full, you can request them to send you the ticket number to enter into My Disney Experience.

I have not tried this yet but was REALLY hoping it was true! I don't want to unpackage everything and rebook. I'm being lazy. :)

I hope someone posts if this turns out to be true!

Thanks, Princess and Ecb!

We (DH and I) just signed up for a 10k in Orlando on April 5th. Hopefully it goes okay but if not that gives us a chance to squeeze in another try before it gets too hot here.

Not what I was told. I asked specifically if I paid it off before 60 days could I link them & I was told no. The only way to get the number to link them was to pay for them now. BUT we all know that it may depend on who you talk to.

I didn't have to rebook, though. They just took the tix off & made it a room only, then I paid for the tix separately and got the number. Tix are now linked and it all looks good.

Not a very magical experience. ;)

I asked the same question and was told that it is "just how sports packages work", citing heavily discounted tix as the reason. Hopefully it won't take you an hour...I called tech support first bc I thought something was wrong. After 40 min, I was transferred to RunDisney, who fixed it easily. Call RunDisney first and it should be a more "magical" experience.

Well this morning I am alittle disappointed but not discouraged, have a 10k beginning of May and I clocked my time and right now I'm at a 14min mile, so I def have some work ahead of me if I want a good time for the 10k, overall not bad for a beginner, I have a 5K in a few weeks but its a glow run that I'm doing with my DD6 so it's more for fun then clocking a good time.

I have a question for everyone that has done these races before. Would it be too much to go to Animal Kingdom the day of the race? This is my family's first trip, if that matters. The park closes at 5 that day and I was thinking maybe we could get a reservation at Tusker House for an early breakfast and scoot out a little early to chill before the race.

I don't think it would be too much as long as you do get some rest time before the race.

You should just listen to our gut. If you're walking around the park and feeling a bit tired, head back to the hotel and rest. Remember, you'll be up LATE, so an early breakfast would make for a long day.

I am running the 5k in the morning with DS then doing the parks until lunch. After lunch I plan to head back to the resort and rest until the race. Maybe even squeeze in a nap while the rest of the family is playing at the park.

Last year I spent all day at Epcot for the Food and Wine festival, saw the first and second concerts and then walked all the way to DHS for the race.I didn't wake up too early and even though for the most part I was fine I did finish the race pretty tired, even moreso than after finishing full marathons.I thought about taking it easier during the day this year but came to my senses that I'm in Disney,I'll be doing the same as last year and just like last year after the race I'll just change clothes, ride ToT,walk around and check how long the wait is for TSMM,ride it if it's short or skip it if it's long and then get out of there.

Also doing 5k with DD, besides the expo and MK on Friday, haven't figured which park we will do after the 5k but knowing myself a rest in the room will def be a must before the race.

I will be running but my wife will not and will be waiting for me at the after party. What is there to do during the party? Is it like normal operation during the day or is it just a few rides will be open?
