Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

I just made my ADR for Tutto Italia for a late lunch before the race! And it is finally starting to warm up around Cleveland so I may even be able to start running! Can't wait!

Ours is a short trip. We're arriving Friday and going home Monday. I made us 3 ADRs. My daughters chose Garden Grill and the Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic package. We've never done Sci-Fi so we're going to try it as well I think.

I know it's Springtime and to beautiful to be inside sitting in front of a computer, but no post since Monday. It's the TOWER OF TERROR 10 MILER and each day we're getting closer and closer.

Let's hear it!!!

I am sitting at the computer to give myself some rest. I have a 12k this weekend... but I have a nasty cold. UGH. I told myself that I would cut my miles down to rest. I did manage a 2 miler on monday and then yesterday 4 miles. If I am up to it I will try another 4 tomorrow. I just am hoping to get through the 12k on sunday. It will be a big race and I am (or was before I got this darn cold) very excited. The final race instructions said that it is anticipated that over 12,000 fans and enthusiasts will be there. No corrals though! Can you imagine??

After I get through this weekend, I will continue just plugging along. I will be doing other local races between now and August. Then in August there is the DLH... then the ToT :woohoo: I probably won't specifically train for the ToT because it is so close to the DLH (and the avengers that I am also signed up for ::yes:: I have a problem) I was thinking of starting a new training program up for the half in DL. It starts mid may...but it takes my miles up to 40 in a week. I think that is far too many. Right? It does have me keeping my pace 2 to 3 minutes slower than I normally run though...so maybe that is why?

As far as ToT goes though... yes! I agree, there should be lots of banter on here!!!

Same here! Really wanted Avengers to complete C2C but couldn't find the money. But hey, totally happy with ToT. Plus, just means that I'll have to fit two races together another year!

3 Races, I don't see that as a problem, I see that as a dream. I wish I had that problem! Oh, do I wish. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine for the ToT. Heck, after the half it will be like a walk in the park.

40 miles a week. Wow, but hey, think of the results. Good luck on the weekend race!

So excited for this one- have all the ADRs lined up. Still on the fence for the 5k, mainly bc it is an early wake up. Taking the kids to their races instead.
Did a ten miler last weekend and it was great. Doing a couple more 10ks and 10 milers before the race...looking to have a nice speedy time and enjoy myself. Wondering about photo ops along the race route and who is running in costume...

I'm only doing the 5K, but my daughter is doing the 10 miler. We are preparing together. Yesterday, she ran/jogged the entire 3 miles without stopping or walking. Progress. She's doing a 10K next week to get a time to submit.

That is awesome! I wish I could get my dd to run. I totally wish she would do the phm with me. Oh well.. and congrats to your dd on the 3 miles!!! That is progress!

I have a late lunch early dinner at Boma. I did it last year and it worked. The year before I had a late lunch at Pepper Market (when it was still a buffet) I figure Boma will still be a good option for me. Always love hearing what other people are planning too.

There wasnt much time to prepare for that cost. It seemed like they announced it and then it was time to register. I had already decided on doing a half that weekend...so the funds just went to disney instead. Funny how disney gets all my money.

It will be interesting. With the 10 miler sandwiched between two halfs I basically will ramp down from one and then use the 10 miler as a training run for the second. At least that is my though now.

I just don't know. The program is for a sub 2:15 half. I am not far from that with my last half so I am not sure I "need" to put in all the extra effort. More than that though... I just have a hard time thinking that one needs to hit 40+ miles to train for a half. I think I need a different training program.

I have been on the fence for the 5k too... not sure why. I should just accept that I don't need to do it. I have some of my travel party running it though... so I kinda want to do it. Looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Congrats on getting the 10 miles in! You are ready for the ToT!!

Photo Ops... I think this is one of the best races for unique characters. Well... unique in the "villains" sort of way. I love seeing the grave diggers and the ballroom dancers from HM. So fun!

Costume.. I don't really do costume as much as just a themed running outfit. I love rawthreads for that! This year, dh and I will run as the big bad wolf and little red riding hood. :goodvibes

Love the Gravediggers - def need that photo! Was thinking about HM character look or villains for this one. Waiting to see what is in my raw thread surprise package...it came today.
If my son does the 5k with me, we will do a team costume of some kind.

Which are you doing before the race?

My youngest daughter is pretty athletic so it was easy. She's plays softball, basketball, runs cross country, and track. When I told her if she'd learn to run 10 miles, she'd get a trip to Walt Disney World, she was all in! :-) My oldest daughter is doing the 5K with me. LOL

We are doing Sci Fi for lunch on the day of the race.

I'm envious of all of you that get to do multiple trips. We are limited to vacations during school vacations. This is a stretch to do this and take off Friday and Monday.

Nothing going on here - race season is wrapping up here in FL, so my mileage is decreasing significantly, and I'm waiting on AP rates for resorts. Things will start getting interesting again for me in a few months, lol!

Got hotel, air, and ADRs all booked short trip, late Thursday through early Sunday, planning on just staying at the villains bash until it ends then grab my stuff and go to the airport. After my 5k this weekend in going to start upping my miles, have a 10k for submitting time next month and will prob so a few more 10ks or just train. Planning on doing the 1/2 in Jan and then avengers 2015 for the coast 2 coast. Then prob do some local marathons.

I believe the grave diggers were in the WWOS are both years.... around the part where the course is on the track. (the nice track not the baseball field gravel one)

HM character would be an awesome look... so would any villain. :thumbsup2

Waiting to see what is in my raw thread surprise package...it came today.

Did you order the villians pack? I did the good girls and mine came yesterday. I was pretty happy with mine. Really wish I could have got a mix of good girls and villians... but oh well. I got two bow shirts (one merida the other rapunzel) and the "Belle" shirt. I would be curious to hear what you get.

If my son does the 5k with me, we will do a team costume of some kind.

How fun could that be? You could do all sort of things!!!

I wish that is what it would take to get my dd to run. She pays her own way though...so that is probably why.

Are you doing a late lunch? Or something for dinner too?

Since we live on the west coast, it is hard to make a FL RD event a weekend deal. Often it is a full day just to get there or back. Then recovering from travel time... it just makes more sense for us to stay longer. We had planned our DLR trip to be a short one... just down friday night and back monday with the race on sunday. Then I realized Christmas decorations would be up.. and airfare was really good (like $69 one way good) but only on Wednesday. So we extended by a couple days. DD will miss some school for a couple of the trips. She is young and a good student though so it works now. When she is in high school, things will be different and i won't be able to take her out of school for trips.

So while the rest of us have race season ramping up..yours ramps down. I guess with FL heat it would not be wise to try and run during the summer months.

I am planning the 1/2 in January too... assuming I have anything left in my bank account. Since I am in on the inaugural AHM, I will have to do it again next year. This means I too will be going C2C with those two races. :cool1:

Wow, I thought I had an empty bank acct lol, I so wanted to do AHM this year since I had to cancel my fall trip last year to DL due to a promotion at work, but decided to wait to do C2C, I know there was a rumoured Star Wars 1/2, if that ever happens ill def get in on the first one. Happy to know someone else is doing C2C on the same races.

40 Miles a week is a bunch. I would think that's more towards a full. If you're close to your 2:15 mark then I think just 'normal' extra training should put you there. Is there a link to the program though, kinda curious!

Oh nope... you would not be the only one. ;) Luckily, I work so that we can do these trips...the trips are my most of my expenses. Still after registering for the races I have it is very low. I should have enough to register for the WDW 1/2.. but I am certainly glad that the phm isn't for a few more months.

I do hope that the Star Wars 1/2 rumors are true. I know it will mean a lot to a lot of people. I think I am out for that one though... I have to resist the urge. I have 2 disney races I have to do a year because I got in on the first one (and yes...I don't HAVE to... but just want to maintain that legacy status that you can't get unless you do the very first)

Ya know, I thought that maybe I had it wrong. I went back to look thinking maybe it was for a full. Nope... it is for a half. It is through Runkeeper so if you have an account with them (which is free) you can sign in and take a look at their plans. If not, I can screen shot it.

No, I don't have an account but may have to register just to check it out. Curious.

Which race do you have legacy in? Sadly, I only have one I can shoot for, it's a local race that just had it's inaugural last month. But must say, for the first race, it was very well organized and highly praised, so glad to be a part of it. All the others I run in, seems like I came in the 2nd or 3rd year. Didn't really know what legacy was til recently!

If you do... just remember it is the sub 2:15 half. Just in case you don't register or go on, I took a screen shot of the last 4 weeks. It is a horrid pic... but you can kinda make out the plan.

thing that is crazy is that even though it shows say 7 miles or 9 miles... it is actually longer. If I click on those dates it pulls up the speeds and it then looks like this.

I really just think I need to scrap this plan and find a new one while I still have time.

Well, I don't exactly. I have a shot at legacy for ToT and for Avengers. My goal is to just make it to 5 years on each. So this will be year 3 for the ToT... Despite the heat though, I do like not only the distance but the fact it is a night race with some fun aspects. (like the villains bash) I could see doing this one longer.

annmarieda, the most I've done per week in preparing for a half is 32 miles before tapering and my PR is 2:00:28. So close to sub 2 :rolleyes2

I don't think 40 miles per week is necessarily crazy for a half but it all depends on how you've trained in the past. If it is going to be significantly more miles per week than you've trained for in the past then I would find another plan. There are tons of them out there. Your plan also has some pretty long runs that involve speedwork. Speedwork like that along with a high mileage week just screams injury to me, but you may be very different from me.

Just my two cents but I would go with another plan. I really like Hal Higdon's plans as a starting point and for my 6 halfs that I've done so far, I've tweaked whatever plan I've picked to customize it to my abilities and expectations.

Yesterday I received my custom dri shirt I had made for the 10 miler. Love the idea of dressing up but had to tweek the idea for practical reasons, I'm doing MNSSHP with my DD the night before (assuming pros are correct on the projected dates) so I can dress up for that then use some of that for the 10 miler.

I appreciate your two cents! I think you are right... it really could lead to injury and that would be not fun. I will take a look at Hal Higdon's plans. I know I need to get some speed work in.. but I have never taken my miles up past say 25 or 26 in a week. There has to be something out there that can get me to where I need to be without totally killing me too.

I love the costumes people come up with for the races. I just would not be able to run in them. So for me a running outfit kinda tweaked to a theme is what I usually go with. Where did you get your custom shirt from?

I agree, that does seem like quite a lot for a half. Maybe if the goal time was sub 1:30. I'm sure you can find one that is not only do-able but will help drop your overall time and will be a better fit.:thumbsup2

I wish I would concentrate more on training. I usually don't hit the 20 mile mark per week at all when running. Luckily to this point it hasn't hurt me. But now, and of course the season is winding down, I'm starting to get serious about training and eating right. I think I'm going to start hitting the gym as well and really see what I can accomplish.

I spend last night at work looking up races all over and there are so many I want to do, travel and MONEY permitting. But I've already got like 4 scheduled in a 15 day period in January of next year. A half on a Sunday, a Quarter the following Saturday, a half the next day and a possible Full the next Sunday. :)
