Towels? How many to start?

I agree completely!!!
We do not use clean towels daily at home and I do not need to on vacation. If I did want to, as OP does, than I can have them by paying for my desired extras. It is after all, a timeshare, not a hotel. I have rented houses at the beach where I got one set of towels for each person for a week, with no option for more.
I agree that the current setup is a fair compromise. Our dues cover the basic set and replacements on T & T and those that require more can choose to pay for the available towel sets. All is good for me.

I never said I didn't want to pay. I just wanted to know so I can plan what I will have to do. This is only my second time DVC and the first was in Concierge so we had daily cleaning & towel service.

As I've said before, if you want to reuse your towels go ahead. I won't.

If the towels are so clean after a shower, would you put them into the dryer without washing them? If not, they aren't really clean, are they? With my allergies and the fact that the towels don't really dry in the inside bathrooms and can mildew, I won't take the chance. I don't want to be sick on my vacation.

As I have said before and will repeat again, I will either be paying for more towels or doing wash. I will not be the reason your dues go up.:rotfl2:

If you stay in a 1BR that has two bathrooms you will get additional towels in the second bathroom. I can't remember the exact number but at least 2 more bath towels and wash cloths and at least one hand towel.

I stayed at VGC this past week in a 1 bedroom. Each bathroom only had 2 sets of towels.
