Towel Animals

Before our first cruise last year we heard soooo much about the towel animals that would be left in our room each night. We were very dissapointed when we didn't get one the first two nights. We did have one every night after that, but we met several people on board that never did get even one. We thought this was part of what we were paying for. We're going again on November 16th, should we expect them?

Well, no, you shouldn't expect them, but if you get them consider yourself lucky, if you enjoy them.

The towel animals were started a few years ago by a few cabin stewards and once word spread of their popularity more and more cabin attendants started doing them. But they are not a given; the priority is to be sure the cabins are serviced and all guests attended to. If your steward has time and the inclination to make a few towel animals during your cruise, great. If not, then that's what happens sometimes. It's definitely not a given.

If your cabin attendant does do towel animals, they will incorporate "props" into them - sunglasses, your child's (or your own!) stuffed animal. They are really fun to "discover" each day.

We had them every day, including props of glasses, etc. We looked forward to them and our steward was happy to see how much we loved them. I just assumed everyone got them. Now they even seem more special.

Don't be shy! If you like them and want them, tell the cabin host that you like that sort of thing when he/she introduces themselves. Our first cruise we didn't get any, but after that I always tell them that even though we are a childless couple we like towel animals. I definitely tip the cabin host more for them since it's above what is normally expected, but you don't have to.

In 3 cruises, 2 with towel animals/1 without.
