Toterhome?

Hi all,

My DH is into drag racing, and we are looking at purchasing a toterhome to pull our car trailer. One of his selling points is "you and the kids can take it down to disney". Now, a toter for those not in the know, is basically a semi/tractor trailer truck that has been converted into a moterhome. My question is...will this thing FIT into a campsite? The are ususally between 25 and 30 ft long, but they are tall like a tractor trailer. Anyone ever taken one to FW, or seen one there? Also, how hard is it to park in the sites? Do you back in or pull through? I don't think I will have a problem going straight down I-75, LOL, but I may need to bat my eyelashes and get some help if I had to back that beast up!!!

Disney can usually accomodate just about any RV. 25 - 30 feet is not all that long and height shouldn't be a problem either. My cousin routtinely tows a 39' fifth-wheel in and outof there without much of a hassle. THey do have about 4 pull-through sites, but they usually save them for about the really big rigs. When you make your reservation let them know what you are bringing and they will do everything they can to make is as easy as possible to get into your spot. They are very good about matching the spot to the camper. This sounds rediculous but I had a harder time backing in my pop-up than I do my 30' TT. They always put me in titghtest sites possible with the pop-up.

Never heard the name toterhome but have seen rigs like the K-3 from www.kingsleycoach.com and the Prevost and Newell 45' MHs many times at FW.

There are 2 pull through sites in the 1200 loop.

We use a semi tractor with a small sleeper to pull our 37ft 5th wheel to FW. Its a hard fit with this rig, but you should have no problems with just the tractor. Enjoy FW!

I must admit I thought you had a typo until you explained! Thought, does her left index finger just not cooperate?

Anyway, those seem to be gaining in popularity. Just be aware that you will need a CDL in almost all states to drive it. But they are really sweeeeet rigs to get you there.

In Michigan you do not have to have a CDL if it is a motorhome. It probably depends how the rig is classified.

Thanks so much for the info. Now that I think about it, the Toterhome is comparable to most moterhomes in length, maybe just a little taller. When you have never driven one, they seem gargantuan! You do not need a CDL to drive one as long as it is for recreational purposes, just like with a moterhome. They call it a "tote"-r-home because you "tote" your toys (race cars) behind your home!

We have been to Fort Wilderness about six times for a total of about 10 weeks and can tell you that I have seen every type of RV from the smallest pop up, Casita, teardrop type to the huge million dollar bus types. Although the biggest ones have problems in certain tight sites, they seem to be able to finess their way back in. Fort Wilderness also added a few pull through sites a couple of years ago.

Not all the sites are the same size and because they are in loops the configuration of the site in relationship to the curve of the road it can be harder to get a big rig backed in without several back and forth tries.

The best advice is to know the length of your rig. Let the reservation cast member know your needs. They usually ask if you have slide outs, awnings, length, etc. so they are ready to accomodate you.

also a drag racer in new england had a totahome 2 sites from ours last july seemed to fit ok also saw 45 ft. motor coach so you shouldnt have a problem.
