Part One: Getting There.

For the first time ever I didn’t wake up with that wonderful feeling, the realisation that TODAY is the day you have been working for, waiting for, anticipating and counting down to since you came back from the last trip! Today I woke up thinking…..HELP! I still have so much to do and I am so disorganised! I had spent the previous few days working like mad on our Halloween costumes, with a few slight hiccups along the way with dyes and paint etc, leaving me very stressed as I realised that I had perhaps left things a little bit too much last minute! The day before we were due to leave I had worked a 12 hour shift at work, so I was very much behind, still having costumes to finish and empty suitcases. Fortunately we were not due to leave the house until 4pm.

So during the morning I finished what I could of the costumes, whizzed off to Asda to try and find some combat pants for myself, sorted out lunch, checked with our friends how they were getting on, and started to pack. Now for some reason I began to stress out big time as I started not being able to find things…I lost my comfy old park trainers, and then couldn’t find my Tia Dalma (Halloween costume) locket which I had bought off Ebay specially. As I was turning the bedroom upside down looking for the locket, I came across the trainers, which were hiding under the bed! But the locket failed to appear and I was gutted, as it really finished off my costume!

Finally we were packed, and I seemed to have more baggage then when we go to Florida for 2 weeks! I still felt very stressed out and just wanted to get there. At 4pm our friends arrived, and they were all very calm (Jackie had thought we were leaving in the morning and so had packed the day before!). So off we went to the car-parking place, and apart from a bit of traffic and roadworks on the M56, which resulted in Tony starting the “I knew we should have set off earlier…” speech which is guaranteed to wind me up! It was also quite stressful having another vehicle following you, as other cars kept coming in between us and that was winding me up too! I was very relieved when we handed our keys over to Mr “Park and Fly” and jumped in the mini bus. Finally I felt able to relax, and began to feel that familiar Disney excitement feeling!

Once in the airport we met Stephen and Louise who had come to the airport with their Mum (our car not being big enough for 6 people plus a vast amount of baggage!)
Check in with Easyjet was easy and smooth, and for once fairly quick, and then I picked up my pre-ordered euros at Travelex! Next stop was for tea, where our family except myself (who doesn’t eat pre-flight for fear of revisiting the meal at a later moment mid flight!) had something at Burger King, and our friends had sandwiches they had made earlier…obviously you will by now have realised that they are far more organised than we are!

Soon we were through security, and waiting at the gate, and then we boarded the plane and took off on time! The flight was straightforward and we experienced very little turbulence, a vast improvement from July! On landing, we were reunited with our bags within minutes, and then met by RS Transports who were holding up a sign saying “Howsam, Weir”, which made me feel very special! No hassle on the metro system for us this trip, we were whisked off to the Explorer’s Hotel and arrived within 40 minutes!

Our rooms were lovely, we had a room for 6 which had a double and 2 singles in the main room, with a set of bunks in a small room off. The main room is shown in the photo:

The girls were quick to grab the bunk room, which left me in the unfortunate position of sharing a room with 3 males…not a very promising prospect ( I shall avoid details here). The toilet and bathroom were separate and the doors just opened onto the main bed area. The only problem we encountered was the running out of toilet rolls every day. With six people a fair amount is used, and the rolls they give you are a bit small and poor quality (cheap). They also charge (shock, horror) to replace the tea and coffee sachets once used! If I had to choose I would probably prefer the Holiday Inn room, but for a family of 6 the Explorers is ideal. I quickly unpacked the cases, aided by the kids and Tony, and then we decided to grab our friends from their room next door, and head off to explore the Explorers. We got as far as the bar!!!! Well, it was time for the traditional 1664 initiation ceremony for our friends! The bar was quite spacious but rather smoky, which I hate, but it served its purpose. After a couple of drinks we decided to turn in, as we wanted to be up bright and early for tomorrow….Halloween (and Tony’s birthday!)

 That promises to be another great report!! (Hope that's a right english expression)
