Does anyone want to do a check in for race progress? Getting prepared for the race, how far they are running/walking and their time?

I think it would be kind of neat and help motivate.

Sounds great! I did 12 miles Saturday, but that is because I have a half marathon on 8/12. I am hoping to maintain a level of fitness after the half and a base mileage of at least 10 miles leading up to the ToT. My pace Saturday was 14:20. I'd definitely like to be in the 13's for ToT.
How is it going for you?

Hey checking in!!!!

I am doing 14K on my LW right now but like Cam I am training for a 1/2 on Sept 30th.

Not feeliing too confident right now however, did a 10K event on Sunday and was not feeling it at all, major shin splints, and thighs are still sore today. However, I am using it as a wake up call that I need to take my training more seriously.

How is everyone else doing???

:goodvibes So would I Cam!!! But I'll be happy if I can get into the low 14's with a few 13's tossed in for good measure. But I'd love to be pacing behind you.

I don't think I'll see a great pace tonight as it's 90 something out right now but there is always hope. I would love to work on getting my pace down more. My best time so far has been 4 miles in 58 minutes and seconds. I'll be over the moon if I can get 58 minutes again tonight with the weather.

Happy safe training to all!!!

Hmmm, I have no idea what pace DH and I will be shooting for at ToT--after a full on Sept. 29th the ToT will probably be the longest distance post-marathon we'll have done. I'm probably gonna just enjoy myself and see where it goes from there. Gotta stay injury free for Jan. All that being said, right now we're doing around 9:00 miles--sustained right now around 13 miles

Well, I'm not training for the ToT really; it's just a happy stop on my way to the Mickey '08! My LR Saturday will be 8 miles, which I guess means I'm ready for it now. My pace is averaging about 9:35 or so. I am definitely not "racing" the ToT as I'm doing a half marathon the next weekend. Now I just have to keep reminding my competitive spirit of that fact during the run itself!

Well, hey! I wrote it on my calendar! That's progress! :rolleyes2

Well, since the ToT race will be 6 days after the Columbus marathon, I'm not expecting great things!!! Hopefully, I can crawl the course.

Judy--I think you are making excellent progress. :goodvibes

Holy Cow!! Some of you can go quite the distance.

I have never run before, I did track in high school but was a sprinter and only did the 100-200M dash and relays. Other than that I have never run before.

I am 30 this year and my first attempt at doing any distance running.

Since it has been soooooo HOT out I have been doing the treadmill. I am up to 2 miles and doing about a 10.9 minute pace (5.5 speed on the treadmill).

My goal is to work up to 3 miles by the end of August and 4 by the end of September. I really want to build distance first than build speed.

I graduate with my bachlors next December and I want to run the half marathon at Disney in Jan of 09.

ETA:
My oldest (my stepson) is doing the ToT with me. He lives with us but is spending a lot of this summer with his mom as it is her visitation time so I am thinking he isn't doing much running at all. He will be 11. So I don't have high hopes for a pace, I just want to be able to finish in time with him.

Hopefully we can get him up to par.

Hi Cobbler!

Which side of the state are you on? I'm on the East and it's going to be a hot one this week.

I'm no speedy by any means but rather am 'learning to run'. I tend to go to fast at first and can be having shin pains by Mile 1 which results in my not getting a good pace until mid Mile 2 then 3 and 4. If I'm lucky. My only speed work days are Tuesday and Thursday. Though Thursday has been getting lost in the schedule this past month. Saturday for us are always of the longer sort (12 this weekend, next will be 18 again) but they are slooooooooooow days. I'm talking I'm happy if we get to a 17 minute mile but then again we also have 3 women chatting the entire time oh and there is the bike dodging that goes on (stop move off the course to avoid being road kill).

I just joined a gym and found last week that the afternoons are fairly quiet there so on my days off I'm probably going to try to make it over there to get in a few on the treadmill too. My 1st time on a treadmill last week. :cool1: I think I'm going to enjoy it, having it keep a steady running pace will help me tons.

Can't wait to say Hi in October :) and you know just where you'll find all of us come January 2009. ;) We'll be the crazy people lined up next to you.

WWDave and my long walks are sitting at 9 miles, so that means we are ready for TOT. Our pace is somewhere in the mid to high 13 mpm, though occassionally will either get a little faster or slower.

My training so far has been hitting the bar as often as possible to try and keep up with WWDave :drinking1 after he shows up in the 'Stang convertible. :car: I have only written the event on the calendar in pencil though. With all the talk of meets, miniture golf (gosh I really do hate the windmills on those, might need to train on this too), MNSSHP, where people are eating and the post race drinking, I didn't realize there was an actual event to train for.:confused3

You are doing super Darlin, glad your hanging tough in the heat. The ToT will probably be an 8 mile mobile party for us. So pace will be whatever the walker group is at.

Our serious training for Goofy will start in Sept so we will probably be doing back to back 10 milers by the time the ToT comes around. Our planned pace for the Goofy will be in the 13:00 to the 13:30 range.

Any other walkers besides Robert and Linda, Wendy, Judy and us, checking in?

I don't know who the "we" is you are referring to, but it sure ain't this "we" (not yet anyway). Plus, I only registered for the ToT Half 13K (or 6.5K). That way, if I can make it, I stand a chance of catching you slow 13K people at the finish. Are any 13K participants willing to share photos of any of the exciting stuff us short distance specialists/half event participants (makes it sound better for boosting my ego) might miss doing the short course rather than the long. That would include WWDave and others chasing groups of purple clad participants or stealing their hidden "energy beans", clear, HGH or whatever else it is they use.

BTW-I'm not trying to pick on you Dave, its just that Big Vic hasn't been around lately to participate in group WISH/YARC recon and strategy planning.

OK, gotta leave work to get home now.

Dave: Linda and I are up to 7 1/2 miles. We will be going slow at ToT as it will be day 9 at WDW so we are going to be tired. Plus, I don't want to push anything in Goofy training(starts Sept 3) as trying to stay injury free for the first time for Goofy.

Yep, we ain't going fast either, like I said what ever pace the walking group is doing works for us.

I have made the commitment to the TOT 13k since I registered on Friday and finally put it on my calender - I put a sticker next to it saying "Go Me!!!" My furthest race distance so far has been 5k (just did one on Saturday at an 11:13 pace but I doubt I will be able to manage that in a 13k) An 8 mile run/walk on the treadmill is the longest distance I have done but I did do a 6 mile walk on the treadmill on Sunday. Didn't want to push it since I had just done the 5k the night before. Depending how my training goes for the 13k I might enter in a half marthon - the Marathon of the Palm Beaches half marathon on Dec 4 (I think that is the date)

Some background on me - I am 34 and started to run last year in preperation for my first 5k. Shortly after I finished that (approx. 2 months) I quit running. My reasons - it was too hot (it was getting into June) and I felt I was stuck at 2 miles and couldn't get any more distance and just wasn't into it. This year on the other hand I am totally committed to running. I started running again when it was HOT and is still HOT and I have already gotten over my mile hurdle and I am commited to the 13k. And on Aug 13th it will be my 2 month running anniversary.

Looking forward to reporting my TOT training and sharing it with everyone here and then meeting everyone in Oct. What an exciting thing to look forward to!! Not only a WISH meet and a Disney race but a meeting of the YARC!!! LOL

Right now my "average" run (for lack of a better term) is 5 miles at about 10 min/mile.

I need to start "stretching" my distance out more. I am hoping to complete the ToT in less than 10 min/mile. I get too bored running to be on the course more than that.........;)
