We will be in Tortola at the end of March and I'm looking for suggestions of things that we can do on our own. Kids ages 18, 15, 14, and 3. We love beaches and water and don't necessarily need adventure. Ideas for transportations (taxi?) would be appreciated.

Thanks!

We did the Baths on our own and it was very easy. Neat experience.

I would absolutely not take a kid as young as 3 to The Baths. We just did this last month and it was totally more physically demanding than any of us were really prepared for, and our group was mostly able bodied young adults. It was crowded too, and super easy to lose track of people in a group, as there are several places where you can go off trail inside.

Cane Garden Bay beach is great and easy on your own. Follow signs to taxis at port. It's about a 15 minute ride and I think it's $8 p/p each way. Chairs, unmbrellas, rafts, etc are all at the beach to rent and there are restaurants there for lunch.

we took our then 4 and 8 yr old girls to Jost Van Dyke Island and they loved every minute of it. So did I!

We hired our own private boat that took us (myself, my parents, DH, and 2 sons who were 12 and 10) to some private snorkeling spots. We saw the Caves, the Indians, and a secret place that just the locals go to. It was no more expensive than one of DCL excursions and we were out all day. We could've gone to a secluded beach (where they filmed the Corona beer commercial) if that's what we wanted. It was totally up to us what we wanted to do. I would totally take the eastern caribbean cruise back to Tortola just to do that excursion again as it had some of the best snorkeling we've ever done anywhere!

we loved Devils Bay, we went there as part of our DCL Bath's excursion. The over and under boulder that a pp mentioned was more challenging than we anticipated, but we liked it. We loved the beach and water at Devils Bay.

Do you have the name of the private company that you used?

We used Island Surf & Sail (their website is www.bviwatertoys.com). Unfortunately, captain Deb, the owner, was unable to take us out. But we had cast. Hulk (ha, yes...he was called "the hulk") and he was great! We loved this excursion so much that if we decide to cancel our Southern Caribbean sailing in Jan. 2018, I will happily take another eastern Caribbean to Tortola again just to do this excursion again! My poor DH did not feel well the morning of the excursion and stayed behind on the ship--he totally missed out and has been regretting it every time he sees all our great pics! There were great trip reviews on Trip Advisor.
