I am just back from a recent trip to the Grand Floridian Hotel and, although it is a nice resort, it doesn't hold a candle to my home resort BWV. Five of us stayed in a Garden view room and it was crowded. Usually we stay in a two bedroom at BWV. This trip was sponsored by my wife's company and was a freebie, so I can't complain too much. The following lists the top ten reasons why BWV blows away the GF:
(1.) Room size, room size, room size!
(2.) Easy access to two parks (GF only has easy access to MK).
(3.) The constant flow of golf cart traffic at the GF makes it impossible to go for a stroll without an interuption every 30 seconds.
(4.) GF doesn't sell alcohol in any of the stores. At the GF, they force you to purchase from the mini bar ($3 for 12 ounce can of coke and $5 for a barcardi nip).
(5.) Luna park is better than the GF theme pool.
(6.) People are a lot less stuffy at BWV.
(7.) Merchandise and food items are marked up significantly higher at GF than they are at BWV.
(8.) Better selection of restaurants, especially when you consider that Epcot is in walking distance.
(9.) BWV actually has a nightlife!
(10.) ESPN's, ESPN's, ESPN's!
A couple of really neat things that I did experience as part of the conference that my wife was attending were as follows:
(1.) Private beach party at the Grand Floridian that included a meet and greet session with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy (a professional photagrapher was on hand and took free photos of all the families). Also included was a private viewing of the electric light parade, private fireworks (patriotic theme), fire juggler, DJ, open bar, and a tremendous buffet that included stations featuring mexican, italian, chinese, and american cuisine.
(2.) Private party at Epcot in the American Pavillion. This party included a live band and a dinner featuring Fillet Mignon and Swordfish steaks. After dinner we were ushered to a private viewing area for watching the Epcot fireworks and served pastries and coffee. It really does make a difference when you have a good view of the show!
