the last time I tried to cook one of these...I ruined it...:rolleyes1
It's about 2 1/2 pounds...can I put it into the crockpot??
TIA - Barb do I have to marinate first???

Yes, you can put it in the crock pot. Put it in, then a can of cream of chicken soup, then a pkg of dry onion soup mix. (You can add salt and pepper if you like) When you come home, it will be a very tender roast in gravy!!! YUM!!!!

You can, but that's a pretty decent roast. You can roast it in the oven and it will be delicious as well. I season it generously with salt/pepper/garlic. Sear on all sides and then put in a 350 degree oven. Use a meat thermometer to check for desired doneness.

You can also just "roast" it in the oven if you prefer. I just season it with salt, pepper, garlic and whatever else you like. Rub a little olive oil over it.

Then put in the oven at 450degrees for 10 minutes. Then turn the oven down (don't open door) to 325 and roast until it reads 130 degrees. This will be a little rare.

Take it out and let sit for about 15 minutes..it will cook a little more and the juices will reabsorb. Very easy and makes a great roast beef.

The round is a very lean cut and doesn't contain a lot of the fat and collagen the chuck does, so you have to be very careful cooking it or it can dry out. IMHO you get the best result from a round roast by roasting it at a very high temperature for a short period of time and then slice it thin and serve it rare, like this.

Personally, I prefer the chuck because it's hard to screw it up. :) Lots of marbling in a chuck roast--it's almost a situation where the longer you cook it, the better it gets.

I would roast it in the oven. Garlic salt and pepper on the outside. Cook at 325 for about an hour. When the internal temp hits 145 take it out, wrap it in foil and leave it alone for about 30 minutes. It will continue to cook and be medium-well when done.

Crock pot is better for cuts that aren't as lean.

I put it in the crock pot with 1 packet onion soup mix, 1 packet brown gravy mix, 1 head of garlic, and 1 cup of wine or wine vinegar and cook for 4 hours on high. You can roast it in the oven, but it will be more moist in the crock pot. You can cook it on low, but it will fall apart.

Definately would roast it. Bottom round is much better in the crock pot. Roast it as previously suggested, and in the pan add a can of beef broth, then you'll have enough drippings to make a brown gravy. Make sure you slice it after it sits for a bit otherwise the juices will just run out.
