Top Chef - Season Two

Did anyone else think Marcel looks like the Heat Miser with that crazy hair of his?
I think he is going to be the guy we love to hate this season- so arrogant, he reminded me of Steven.

What is a Heat Miser?

"The Heat Miser is a character from the Rankin Bass stop-motion animated Christmas television special from the 1970's called The Year Without a Santa Claus."

Ms Marigny: excellent comparison :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

Oh-- that is a Heat Miser! It's been years since I've seen that movie...

TWoP is also calling Marcel a Heat Miser. LOL!

This is a much better description than my hobbit reference!

Just home from WDW, haven't watched the first show yet (have it TiVo'd though). Can't wait to see it!! popcorn::

Marcel also reminds me of Syndrome from The Incredibles. :P He is definitely going to be the Stephen for this season. I think he is worse though.

I was thinking the exact same thing; I just couldn't remember the character's name!!

Perfect likeness! Separated at birth: Syndrome and Marcel!

So far, I like Sam.

That was quite an episode last night. All the drama! I think that Marisa (Team Korea) made such a big deal about Otto and the unpaid for lychee nuts because she knew she had made such a mess of her dessert and would have gone home had she not pinned it all on Otto. Of course, he was wrong not to return the lychees as soon as he realized the problem, but she knew about it right then and there also and could have demanded that they bring them back. Personally, I think she'll be one of the next to go; either her or Michael (with Carlos not too far behind.) I think there are a number of very good chefs this season. While I already said in a post above that I like Sam, I think Emily could be a real dark horse in this competition. Many of the others have created things I'd like to try: Betty, Ilan, Frank, Cliff, and Mia.

I LOVED that Ming Tsai was the guest judge!

Good episode. :thumbsup2

My question is how can her dessert be that bad when she makes her living as a pastry chef? They do nothing but desserts! Even looking at it on TV it looked awful. Panna Cotta doesn't set up that solid- ever!

There was something about Otto that I liked but I'm glad he stepped up to the plate and took responsibility.

Now I don't know who to root for! :sad2:

I did find it kinda funny that last seasons's egos worked better as a team than this season's.

Did you notice how Marisa was gloating over Otto while the judges were speaking? She had such a superior look on her face it made me want to smash a pie or maybe some of her nasty panna cotta into it.

I thought it was funny when Josie couldn't pronounce the name of her dish(Pork Pho) correctly and that Ming Tsai corrected her. I thought she had worked in a Vietnamese restaurant.

Exactly. The whole reason the team gave her the dessert to create was because she was a pastry chef! She was going on about how comfortable she was because this was her element and then she has this disaster. I really hope she goes home next.

:rotfl: :rotfl:
Absolutely!

I wish that Otto had told the judges exactly what he said. "I told her I thought we didn't get charged for the lychee" And then go into "I told her right there at the store and she didn't seem to care, so I didn't make a deal out of it, instead she waited until we got to the kitchen and then tried to sabottage the team". But he didn't say that! Ack!

I love love love love Cliff and Betty.

Bumping so nobody misses it!! :woohoo: Can't wait to see what characters they have this year! Who are we going to love to hate (like Steven last year)? LOL.
LOL, how could you possibly miss it? There are about 20 copies of it on my DVR every time I look. :rotfl2:

It's so disappointing to think it's a new episode, just to see they've run the same one again!

I really enjoyed the first season. I hadn't seen Hell's Kitchen when I watched that, though. Now, being able to compare the two shows, Top Chef doesn't seem quite as exiciting. A cooking show without every 3rd word bleeped out? Who'd have thought? :rotfl:

I'm still enjoying Top Chef. Can't wait to see what the ice cream challenge is all about.

What kills me is that Marisa knew she would have had to pack her knives if Otto wasn't there to blame.

Another thing is that anybody on their team could have said "Hey, Otto, let's go back and pay so we adhere to the rules" but nobody said a thing. IMO, that makes them all just as responsible as Otto.

Exactly! He might have, but thanks to the wonders of editing, the producers might have made it look like he didn't.

Also-- Otto should know by now that you should never say anything potentially damaging while you are on a reality TV show. Your competition will use it against you and it is also on tape where hundreds of people can see it! Granted, it wasn't as bad as Keith(??) on Project Runway cheating with the pattern books (he looked like a big fool!) but it was still an action people will forever associate with him.

I officially hate Marisa. This competition should be about cooking (which she didn't do very well), not scheming (leave that to Survivor and Big Brother.) She just seems so desperate to win and alienate people that it makes me dislike her.

Can't wait to see what happens this week!

I truly wonder how much of the "stolen" lychee storyline was edited out. I went back and watched the episode a second time and interestingly enough, even before Marisa pulled her whistleblower routine, the lychees were stored off to the side and were not being used. How was that decision made and by whom? Did the whole team decide not to use them and perhaps return them after the challenge? The audience certainly didn't get the chance to see who decided to put them aside. Creative editing

I can't wait to see the episode where Frank tells Marcel that if he touches his stuff, he's going to beat him so bad his mother won't recognize him.

I love this show!

So I finally got around to watching the first two episodes. Good season!! :thumbsup2

I agree Marisa is totally annoying. :badpc: I wish Otto didn't step down, he was kind of fun to watch.
