Hopefully temps will start to cool down at some point, so how about a Jungle Cruise blanket from Redbubble to cozy up with while watching - what else? - The Jungle Cruise! You could have the whole vibe going on snuggled up under the blanket in your dress, candle burning, and sipping something yummy from the tumbler!

Big congrats to clappyclaps and ShannyMcB who both blew right past some colors to reach goal and Green!!!! Woohoo!!!

I can do August if nobody minds me starting a little late. (I have a big volunteer project going on the 2nd and 3rd.)

Here's the ride through for Tokyo Disneyland's Jungle Cruise. No English version, but if you know Japanese, maybe you can let us know if the jokes are very different. I do think this one looks very nice and well maintained. sophy1996, have you ridden this on your trips over there?

We did! We didn't understand anything but it was fun to see all the families laughing at the jokes.

Nothing for me yesterday. We went to see The Wiz touring production, but it was too hot to do anything but park and hurry inside. If you get a chance to see that show, do!!!! Especially if you're a Doom Patrol fan. The Wiz himself is played by the same actor that played Maura Lee Karupt in Doom Patrol. Alan Mingo Jr. is sooooo talented! And Dorothy blew my mind. Her voice! Wow! Scarecrow was another favorite. He's a multi Tony winner, and I see why. Seriously considering heading to Nashville in September to see the show again.

Another former Disneyland Skipper, Alan Coats, went on to become an Imagineer who worked on Epcot and Tokyo Disneyland.

Alan Coats

Writer, Disney historian, Imagineer (retired) // Independent

Alan is a "Disney kid", son of background artist and Imagineer Claude Coats and Ink & Paint artist Evelyn Coats. His dad worked on all of the classic films from Snow White to Lady and the Tramp before being hand-picked by Walt to be one of the original designers of Disneyland.

His career began during the early days of the park as a toy soldier marching in parades with Mouseketeer Annette before graduating to his dream job as Alligator Al, a skipper on the Jungle Cruise.

As an Imagineer at WED Enterprises, now Walt Disney Imagineering, Alan was a designer of show lighting and effects for the Magic Kingdom in Florida, and created initial concepts for EPCOT and Tokyo Disneyland.

Alan is one of the skippers featured in a book I've been reading called Skipper Stories - essentially a compilation of interviews of former Jungle Cruise skippers. Here's an excerpt from one of his interviews for the book:

We all had nicknames. Alligator Al seemed obvious to me, so I just used it from the get go. Guys usually had some funny names, they'd take their own names and give it some animal or jungle sounding thing. And they would introduce themselves to their boats that way, "Hello, I'm Alligator Al, and I'll be your skipper and guide." So you would introduce yourself with your name. They all did nicknames. - Alan Coats, 1960s

Here is a fascinating audio interview with Alan Coats talking about his Dad, Disney legend Claud Coats, about growing up on the Disney lot, and later about his own Disney career. A little long, but so worth it if you can spare the time.

And if you're curious about his dad, here's a little about him:

Adding 185 minutes to my total - a wonderful week of good food and great weather! Back home now, giving my knee a well deserved rest for a couple of days.
I got 4/5 on the Jungle Cruise quiz - had no idea what the name of the boat was ☺️ I always enjoy the ride - hoping they've switched to Jingle Cruise when we get there in November.

690/500 I'm wowing myself!!!!

Is there any special way to capture all the walking?
There are a few ways we suggest tabulating park minutes.

One way is to divide your total amount of park time by 3. So if you're there for 6 hours, you can guesstimate that you walked for about 2 of those hours.

Another way is, if you have the means, to take your total mileage each day and assume an average walking pace of 2.5 to 3 miles per hour. So if you know you walked 9 miles on a park day, you can estimate 3 hours of exercise.

Finally, if you count steps, I would estimate about 2 hours per 10k steps. So if you walk 20k steps in a Disney day, you get 4 hours of exercise.

All of these are just estimates! If you have a fitness band or smart watch, it might detect your walking and give you active minutes each day and you could use that as well.
