Good Riddance Emily! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

She was a real gem, huh? Lets see she didn't like kids, heavy set people, people with bad teeth or comfort food. Bye, bye Emily! :rotfl:

You're right, I knew there was some other comment besides the kid one I didn't remember. The "fat woman" comment with the ice cream was shocking!! :scared1:

It is also normally replayed prior to the new episode on Wednesday evenings. Thus at 8:00 p.m. CST they show the previous episode and at 9:00 CST they show the new episode.

My DH and I were shocked by the rude comments she made. :earseek:

And plus I kept wondering if she didn't watch any of last season. She should have known that they would not be making fancy gourmet food for each challenge.

I did not feel sorry for her in the end. Even if she didn't know how to cook "comfort food", she could have cooked something that tasted good and was seasoned well. Sam came up with a unique dish (the vegetarian dish with fruit in it).

Betty might need to take a chill pill. :teeth: I don't like Marcel either, but she overreacted.

Last night’s episode was SO disappointing to me. I can’t believe that Emily was sent home before Marisa or Michael. :( I’m not saying that her creations last night didn’t deserve to get her the boot or that her comments weren’t awful; it’s just that overall I generally liked what she cooked.

First, the Quickfire Challenge: Cliff’s was so obviously the best because he actually used ingredients that people LIKE in ice cream! The chefs knew that their audience would be people hanging out in a local park. It’s not like they’re creating for a 5 Star audience! Who the heck puts bacon in ice cream??? Lavender with chocolate??? If Cliff keeps getting immunity in the Quickfire, he’ll never have to win an elimination challenge. :rotfl:

On to the Elimination Challenge: My first complaint is that even the chefs who produced a good dish didn’t really follow the rules, except for Betty, Cliff, Marcel and Michael (with varying degrees of success, of course). Sam’s dish looked wonderful but it sure didn’t evoke memories of childhood comfort foods. Same with Ilan. And Ilan and Marisa didn’t create an entrée; they did a side and a dessert, respectively. What the heck was Frank thinking? I like mushrooms as much as anyone on the planet but they don’t exactly qualify as childhood comfort food. And then there’s Emily: If surf and turf is her idea of childhood comfort food; I am definitely moving in with her family!!

I’m glad that Betty won. Even though we don’t get to taste their creations, it sure looked like she nailed the theme. How cool is it that TGIFridays will be featuring her dish on their menu! I know a lot of the chefs are looking for gourmet approval but nationwide exposure like that has got to be amazing for her. (As a side note, Tyler Florence has a number of his creations on the menu at Applebee’s.) I think Cliff did a great job too with his adult version of fish sticks and mac and cheese.

I do wish they would have given Michael the boot last night but I’m sure he won’t be around for much longer anyway. I would like to have seen what Emily could do in some of the more gourmet challenges so I was sorry to see her go.

Am I the only one who thinks that Betty probably overreacted to Marcel’s complaining about the deep fryers? If I was competing and my equipment failed me I would have been pretty upset too. Of course, then it escalated into something else and I would have wanted to smack him in the head while he was staring at her and making all the comments while she was cooking.

Even though the outcome was disappointing to me, I did think it was a good episode. I wish we didn’t have to wait a week for the next one.

I think Betty had just had enough of Marcel and when you don't like someone to begin with, the smallest thing can really tick you off.

Oh, and Frank, I am SO glad I don't have to sleep in a room with you! He sounds just like my DH used to before the benefit of a sleep study and a CPAP machine. If I were those poor guys I'd want to smother him with a pillow! He's trying to be somewhat considerate by bringing earplugs for the other cheftestants and using a breathe right strip but it's definitely not enough.

I don't know about anyone else but I suddenly had an urge for TGIF's tonight. :rolleyes1

I'm surprised to see that no one has posted about last night's Top Chef yet.

In terms of show scheduling, I'm wondering how they're going to handle the fact that none of the cheftestants were sent home? I mean, they have a certain number of episodes that they're contracted for each season; it's not like they can just add another one. This means to me that in one of the upcoming episodes, two chefs will be sent home; hopefully next week and hopefully Michael and Marisa. I couldn't believe that she was complaining about Mia throwing Betty under the bus when she did the same thing to Otto with the lychees! She is really a piece of work. I wish the cameras would have shown us which of the chefs was using the olive oil (or did Sam make that up???) We know that Betty put sugar in her second batch of cookies. (Of course, Miss Know-It-All Marisa knew that the Splenda wouldn't work out  )

I thought it was funny when the one girl at Camp Glucose said she wanted to marry Sam! I enjoyed listening to the kids' opinions on the smoothies.

I was going to post last night but never got around to it.

Did anyone else feel that Betty should have taken the "high road" like Otto did and bowed out? I found myself thinking, what if she ultimately wins this, would it ever be considered a "real win"? I doubt it. Not after the sugar incident. :rolleyes1

I also thought at the end, at the house during the discussion, that Mia should have owned up to being one of the accusers like the others did. She seemed to have no trouble speaking out at the judge's table. :stir:

Good episode, though. What's up with Michael? Missing his wife a little too much? :rotfl2:

Me too. I bet they have it on film. I'm not sure why they didn't keep the nutritionists there in the first place on actual cooking day. :confused3

I tried to post about this episode last night, but whenever I search for it it NEVER comes up! And then how to search for Pea. I kept accidently doing Pea'n'Me.

I don't think Betty was cheating. I never heard them say they were locked in. the people on her team knew she did it. She was definitely still under 500 calories. So, I don't have a problem with it. And since no one would fess up about the oil, it wouldn't be fair to send her home when someone else out there cheated.

I'm a little sick of the cheftestants not speaking up about any "cheating" until they get to the table. Why not say something when you see it?

ITA!

Lora, if you go under User CP up in the top lefthand corner, you can get to your subscribed threads and find it that way.

BTW, I don't think it was intentional with Betty, but she did change her recipe. How many calories in 2 TBSP of sugar anyway?

50, but it was for her whole batch and not per person. Plus she used less egg whites and made the portions smaller. And unlike Otto, she owned up to it. :)

I forgot about the subscribe utility :)

ITA w/everything you said. While I was watching the show, I thought "that was pretty smart of Betty b/c she'll still come in under the 500 calories b/c they had a bit of leeway there w/the calories". I didn't realize that they couldn't change things around -- I thought that as long as they stayed in the 500 calories, things were ok, so I thought what Betty was doing was w/in the rules. Of course, I wasn't in the kitchen and don't recall hearing "no changes whatsoever". If the nutritionists had been around on the day of final cooking, things would've prob. played out differently. And, had Betty questioned changing the recipe, who was around to ask if it was OK to do so!?!? Tom C. wasn't in the kitchen and, do you really think the camera crews are going to pipe up?!?! And, Betty did take the high road by saying "Yes, I did change it but I thought that I could b/c I removed egg whites and had calories to work with". I was so afraid that she was going home last night and I really like Betty. And, if Betty was caught using the sugar, why didn't they call for Tom immediately!? Why wait?!

Anyway, if Sam's going to throw the fact out there that people were using olive oil left and right, then why didn't he name names?!!? If you're going to put that info. out there at the judges table, then name names. Otherwise, don't waste time w/that crap. If you don't want to name names, then shut up about it.

As for what they'll do w/the extra cheftestant ... I bet one of the challenges will be eliminating two. Prob. by working in teams -- they'll eliminate one from each team or two who made the worst dishes regardless of what team they're on. Lots of ways to eliminate those chefs.

My "not really a question" is...How do we know this isn't something that Betty and the nutritionsit didn't talk about the day she was there? She was having problems with the cookies still by the end of the day, how do we know there wasn't a "what if I do this instead" conversation? Although the olive oil was right out cheating IMO.

I'm finding it hard to really want any of them to win this year. :confused3
It's just who I'd like to see less of through out the rest of the season.

And if I have to see Mikey's wife undies again I think I'll puke! That's not underwear, it's an eyepatch! :lmao:

Anyone watch tonight?

Thoughts?

I was sad to see Josie go. But not what's-her-name.
