Top Chef - Season Two

I watched the first half of Top Design after TC ended and they had kiss and tells with Marcel and Ilan. (I think they also had Sam and Elia later, but I went to sleep.) Ilan actually took the time to rip Harold! I couldn't believe it. Why would anyone go after Harold? IH was talking about how Harold was so boring; he was going to be the more exciting Top Chef. He's such a little weasel. I hate that he won. Then Marcel came on and was saying that Ilan often licked his fingers in the kitchen and wiped on his apron. Eeeew.

Did anyone else catch these? What did the other cheftestants have to say?

On the show itself, Marcel seemed genuinely disappointed that Elia wanted to work with Ilan and not him. She really showed her true colors in the final three episodes and it wasn't a pretty sight. I think he should have picked Mia also, especially since Mike wanted to work with Ilan anyway. I really don't think that Marcel "got" that Michael was just another of the "mean kids" who didn't like him. His social filter definitely doesn't function properly. I thought Marcel made the better food in the finale and should have been the winner; but of course, the true top chef was Sam.

I was disappointed with this season and will have to think twice about investing my time into season three next year.

How come there was no reunion show this time?:confused3

That's what I'd like to know. Maybe it's because they're now doing the online-only Watch What's Happening show (with Andy, the annoyingly vacuous host) after each episode? :confused3

Still, I'd rather watch a full-out reunion special. I mean, I know it would be yet more time devoted to much of the cast to use Marcel as a punching bag... but I also think there might be a chance to ask the Witc... er, uh... Betty some pretty pointed questions.

Was anyone confused as to why Sam would volunteer to help Marcel rather than Ilan? He said something about "shaking things up" :confused3 And didn't it turned out that there were exactly 3 people who said they wanted to work for Ilan and exactly 3 who wanted to work for Marcle? I smell a set up :rolleyes1

And did anyone else notice that Elia looked really ticked off almost everytime they showed her. Especially when the su chefs were talking to the judges. Guess she's pretty bitter about being voted off?

Yeah, Elia definitely needs to quit pouting, lest she trip over her lip and hurt herself.

Bumping up the Top Chef thread to post a little bit of gossip on the TC host:

Is Padma Lakshmi all set to dump Rushdie?

Washington, March 29: It seems that actress Padma Laksmi is all set to dump her novelist hubby Salman Rushdie.

A source reportedly overheard designer Diane von Furstenberg commenting that the reality TV hostess was set to drop the 59-author, her husband of three years.

“I can’t believe she’s leaving him,” von Furstenberg kept saying, according to the source.

The designer is a long time friend of the couple and attended their wedding in April 2004, along with editor Tina Brown, comedian Steve Martin and assorted other famous guests.

Lakshmi’s reasons for putting an end to the relationship with the Booker Prize winner seemed to be to focus on her big Bravo hit, Top Chef.

According to The New York Times Vows column that documented their nuptials, Rushdie first discovered PadmaLakshmi in a 1999 issue of Panorama, an Italian glossy magazine for which he’d also posed.

However, Von Furstenberg’s publicist declined to comment and a call to Rushdie’s publisher was not returned, reports the New York Observer.
