Top Chef Masters - Who will be watching

I have the season set up to DVR (lol as long as my kids don't delete it!) and will watch tonight...I love Top Chef, but I'm really depressed reading this thread!
Ya'll are so smart and know your chefs!
I guess I didn't do my homework before tonight! :teacher:
Can't wait though! :flower3:

Don't worry, you get a little "Cliff Notes" background during the show and even if you don't know the chef, the show will still be fun

I saw the show and it was okay. It was a fun challenge and the Chef's were all supportive of each other. Not really like TC, though and I do miss Tom Collichio and Padma. I think having food critics to judge the food is a good idea though, these Chefs are used to having their dishes judged by critics and customers rather than their peers.

So far so good. I thought using the girl scouts was cute idea as well the college dorm room was brilliant. I wish Tom was on more. I'm happy they got a new host.

Woah woah woah...what's all this business about...and why haven't I heard about it??

I thought it was only ok. Like the regular show much, much better.

Glad to see there are so many people into it!

It came on too late last night so we are watching tonight.

I watched the whole thing trying to think WHO the French chef with the long silvery hair reminded me of. I decided it was Sean Connery in "The Rock" before they cut his hair! He sure had a lot of personality though! And HOW could the Texan have put his stuff in a freezer thinking it was a frig?!?

According to TV Guide, they (and Gail, and past contestants/winners) will be making guest appearances as judges. So will, I think, Neil Patrick Harris.

Anyway, I want Michael Schlow to win. Ah, too late. Okay, Wiley Dufresne :)

I'm confused, though. Kelly (host) said the quickfire challenge 'stars' would be added to the elimination round stars, right? Well, I wasn't writing things down, but it seems like when she - well, really the producers ;) - gave the star total in the elimination round, they counted only those points and not the Girl Scouts ratings.

Not that it would have helped Schlow :(

My money is on Hubert Keller. I was impressed with how kind they were to each other and how comfortable. They were joking around with each other. I guess when you are at their level you are very comfortable with your talent and not intimidated by anyone else. I thought Christopher Lee was soo cute. I loved how they were all laughing about the girl scouts comments and saying how the red head was going to be a Times Food Critic. :lmao: I thik its great having food critics especially for this level of competition. I would love to see Tom C compete. Whats funny is I think I saw Michael Chiarillo from the Food Network on a coming attraction (Easy Entertaining). I would love to see Bobby Flay in this enviroment.

...what do you MEAN Tom isn't on the show? He's just going to be a guest judge? Why in the name of all that is edible is Bravo using his image to flack the show SO much?!? Every single stinkin' time they run a promo (and Bravo's been running them a LOT!) for "Top Chef:Masters" there's good old Tom...

It's almost false advertising.

I have another beef with almost all of the judges that Bravo gets... Why don't any of them, especially the women(like, oh I don;t know, maybe PADMA?), look like they actually *eat*? The only ones who are allowed not to be sticks when they are judges are the chefs, like Tom & Emeril.

agnes!

He was on the show just not as much as before. He was talking about the different cooks.

I'm very excited to watch Wylie Dufresne compete, though. I think his methods are fascinating! :thumbsup2

I thought the same thing about Tom, but at the same time... I don't think they want anyone to think there is someone out there that could beat Tom because he plays such an important role in the regular seasons. Do they really want to shower viewers that there are better Chefs out there and just how much better? :confused3

I'm so glad I found this thread- I love this show and have to bribe DH to sit and watch it with me. :rotfl:

I love Top Chef!
I didn't look at the list really, but I hope John Besh does well.
I still think he should have won the "next iron Chef".
(of course I never TASTED the food, but from what we saw we thought he should win.)

I feel the same way. Also like Hubert, I think he is a really great chef.

Hubert produced a really awesome dessert for the Quick Fire Challenge. My husband and I were talking about how creative his was and how much he did in that hour. His presentation was outstanding. Then when the guy beside of him (sorry I can't remember his name at the moment) was having difficulty with his mixer Hubert not only offered him his mixer but carried it over to him and replaced it. That says a lot about his character. When it comes to these types of competitions I don't just want the person who produces the best food to win I want it to be a great person as well. So now I'm torn because I really like Rick as well. This is going to be tough.

If you guys aren't familiar with Rick Baylesscheck him out. I like Rick so much because of his kind nature and because of all the time he spent in Mexico learning about not only there cuisine but also their way of life, their culture. He really got to know the people. To him it isn't just about food, he has a respect for people. If you check out the FAQ section on his website you will see that he uses sustainable methods, supports local farmers, etc. I like that sort of thing. This guy really cares.

I'm not saying you have to like your chef for any of these reasons. You can like your chef for any reason for whatever reason. Please don't think I'm saying you have to like a chef for reasons like this. Worrying moment is over now. ;)

Why do you all like the chefs you have chosen to win? What stands out to you?

They said so many of his things were perfectly cooked. We were talking about how we would love to study under him to learn how to cook like that.

**sigh** I really wish I could be a chef. **sigh** My body just won't let me.

Michael Schlow = "hometown" boy = his restaurants are in Boston.

Wiley Dufresne = molecular gastronomy looks really interesting.

But don't worry - I'll keep changing my mind over the next five weeks, as we see who stays and who has to pack their knives.

By the way, I think instead of donating small amounts of money to the Make a Wish Foundation in the names of the eliminated Chefs, I think the sponsor should be donating it to each Chef's charity-of-choice. MAW is excellent, and needs the money, and puts it to good use - but all the chosen charities are good, too.

Have you eaten at any of Michael's restaurants? If so, what do you think of them?

Wiley is interesting to watch. But I wonder if that is enough to make him the Master. Or does his technique limit him too much? It is amazing all the stuff he does and how creative he is, but I worry he might limit himself a little too much. How would he have handled the dorm room competition?

they don't know how to use a microwave?
:confused3

ok I get why they don't cook their masterpieces with them.
but not KNOW or even they said they never used one?
:confused3:confused3

don't these people ever have leftovers they wanted to heat up??
how else would they do it?

I mean,, hey mac & cheese, pizza, stuff like that.
don't you guys use your microwaves a lot?
yea I know we are not 5 star chefs, but we always have leftovers to re-heat

No, not even when I worked steps from his original location (Radius) :(

::yes:: We got our first RadaRange almost forty years ago (I'm positive - my dad worked weekends in a hardware store, and I still remember my brother and I carrying this eight-hundred ;) pound box into the house). On the other hand, few people do actually cook in them. Frozen dinners don't count as cooking :)

Muffyn you make a great point and we thought the same thing. We thought they may not like leftovers, they may be beneath them. ;)
