Top 5 Places you SHOULDNT eat

wow...so many negatives...are there any restaurants that did NOT make the list? :confused3 Sounds like we'll all starve next week at WDW:scared1:

Seriously, we've eaten at quite a few CS & TS over the course of 4 trips, and never had bad food, bad service, bad atmosphere. The worst I can say we have ever encountered is having to wait in line for 15 minutes during lunch rush at a counter service on occasion, and fixin's bar running out of some condiments, again during prime meal times. Neither occurrenc would cause us to never return to those restaurants.

Course, we know we're going to pay premium prices for WDW food--we just figure at least 1/2 the cost is due to the location. We also expect restaurants to be very busy during meal times, and that family restaurants will be full of families. Likewise, character meals will be full of noisy kids, and we generally expect the floors of these restaurants to be dirty...if they closed long enough to get the floors clean in the middle of the day, we probably wouldn't get in! Our servers have always been friendly & fun; tables cleared as needed, drinks refilled as needed...

Sorry some have had bad experiences, but really, 20 or 30 bad reviews out of how many thousands & thousands of meals served at these places? I wouldn't change an ADR based on this. Like always, the bad experience is the one reported, and the thousands of good experiences you don't hear from...

I don't mean to hijack this - but to anyone considering changing their ADR over some of the opinions listed on this thread or anywhere on the DIS isn't a good idea. Some people have listed restaurants on here that people have absolutely loved. You can only take things with a grain of salt. I'm sure there will always be a bad experience for someone but it doesn't mean the same will be for you. :flower3:

I have let these opinions help break a tie in our minds as we decide where to eat. For example, we were deciding between Flying Fish and Narcoosee's for one night. Didn't read anything that killed Flying Fish, so we are sticking with it b/c we will be at BCV during that time. If people gave FF the reviews that San Angel Inn or Sci Fi got, we'd probably be going to Narcoosse's instead. (insert horrible review of FF here! :rotfl: )

Well I have lots of "so-so" eating places that I would not place in the "DO NOT EAT" category. So far, I've only got two places really

Yak and Yeti TS. Despite great reviews, I was incredibly dissapointed with the chicken nuggets soaked in sauce that they called any kind of asian chicken. DW says I'm being too harsh because we live in Montreal which has a fairly large "chinatown" and have access to some out of this world asian food ( ranging from chinese, thai, japanese, vietnamese etc ). But FYI she hated Yak and Yeti too.

Tony's Town Square. This place should be ashamed of itself. Like Pete said on the podcast, they have such a prime spot and it's like they feel they don't even need to try cause people will eat here no matter what because of their location.

Other than that, the only other comment I can make is how mad I am at the Burger change at Pecos Bill and Cosmic Rays'. We used to love these places and always visited more than once. This past march I was exposed to the boiled-like beef patty in a whole wheat bun they call a burger and was SO SO disspaointed. We didn't go back.

In no particular order ...

1. Hollywood Studio's ABC Commissary
2. Animal Kingdom Pizza"barfi"
3. Gackin' Yeti Counter Service
4. Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
5. Bongo's Cuban Cafe

:rotfl: Thanks for the laugh! :rotfl:

The ones I would never return to:

1. ABC Commissary (just plain yuk)

2. Marrakesh (disclaimer - I really enjoyed my meal both times. DH didn't. Last visit, our service was beyond awful - we had to ask multiple times for our drinks, just all around pretty bad -- DH's meal was awful - he sent it back - came back same as when he sent it back but with a hair on it -- clearly not a hair belonging to any of us). He says no more -- I lose on this one - I do enjoy the food -but I'm outvoted 3 to 1. Tangeriene Cafe's food was actually tastier, IMO - so I can live with that.

3. Chef Mickey's & 1900 Park Faire. Character interaction great -- food on buffets - yuk. I'd go back to 1900 Park Faire just to see the stepsisters - Chef Mickey's once was enough.

I love Sci-Fi, its such a cute fun place :dance3: but hate the food.

I found one good dish, that they can't screw-up.
If you go... get the Ruben its really good. We only go for lunch (and last time, even my burger came out cold)...but the Ruben is fantastic!

So even the bad restaurants can be saved with some good DisBoard research. LOL

Oh ha!! I guess I have do in fact have three places! We ALL hated the ABC Comissary as well!

I have found HS has by far the worse selection of food choices and restaurants.

1. ABC Commisary - food options not plentiful
2. Studio Catering - LOOOOOOOONG lines for average food and little seating.
3. 50's Prime time - Traditional "mom" food that didn't cater to our "vacation" style food we like
4. Planet Hollywood - too loud to even think about eating - not child friendly which is key for families

I went for the ruben at lunch and it came out COLD. Not just mildly warm, but cold and nasty. I would have sent it back, but since we were on the "free dining" program when it included gratuity, we never saw our server return until the end of our meal.

I enjoyed the stale chips they served with my spinach dip appetizer. That was the highlight of our meal, outside of the atmosphere.

Will never go back!

The only one that I will not return to is Marrakesh. The food was OK...nothing WOWed me. I hear the CS is much better. The tables are too crowded together and it is very loud in there.

I really did not care for my entrees at Spoodles and Coral Reef but they have since taken these items off the menu so I will probably return. One thing I will say about Spoodles, it was a little louder than I expected.

Mama Melrose did not WOW us either but I probably would go there again if we needed to do the Fantasmic pkg. The sangria was good and I did like my entree (some type of shrimp with penne). Our server was also good there.

1. Bongo's Cuban Cafe [ew.]
2. ABC Commisary [ew.]
3. 50's Prime Time Cafe [I just don't like getting yelled at! haha!]
4. Sci-Fi [Atmosphere was neat, food, not so much..]
5. 1900 Park Fair [My Mickey waffle, was hard as a rock, I was 7 and really sad. I guess that just did it for me there..]

I agree about Capn Jacks!!! Also Sci-Fi. Would love to say something about The Noodle Station, but, IT IS NEVER OPEN!!!

I have a question I've never seen anywhere on the boards but that the people on this thread are probably best able to respond to......

Does anyone ever send bad food back?

Naah ... it's pointless really. The vast majority of food served at Disney restaurants, even table service restaurants, is cooked off site and only prepped and plated at the venue. Thus it's not like you're likely to get a fresh plate of whatever you send back.

Probably better to complain and try and wrangle free dessert.

I agree that you shouldn't solely base your ADR's on this list. Similarly I feel that you shouldn't base your ADR's on the "Top Five Fave" lists. I think everyone needs to look at the menus, look at the good and bad reviews and then make their own judgement call. :goodvibes

There are so many negatives because this one's the negative thread. The positive one is a different thread.

Most other people have made the same observation. And I doubt that most people would base their ADRs on what people say on the message board. But if my family's trying to decide between two places and one of them has gotten consistently bad reviews here, then maybe we'll opt for the other place.

I have to say that I enjoy Rainforest Cafe almost every time I go. We also have one in Burlington, MA that does NOT compare in atmosphere to Orlando. Kids love it there, so maybe adult singles may want to stear clear as the noise level is high... I don't mind the noise. My one bad experience there was being seated near the entrance where all people waiting on the elephant trail to be seated stood there and gave you the feeling of being watched. Good thing the mai tai's helps you overlook this. lol

I'm not sure what everyone is ordering that costs so much, but a $15-$20 entree doesn't seem too out of control considering the area in which you are dining. I love the Pastalaya personally. Spicy and very filling.

Everyone has their own tastes & opinions so don't let 10-15 people on a message board scare you away from a particular restaurant.

We too enjoy the Rain forest, perhaps because the kids like it. It is loud (jungle noise) and the food is just OK, but has always been decent. The prices are high for the quality of food you get, but you are paying for the atmosphere. The atmosphere is much nicer in Disney than the ones I have been to in Texas, New Jersey, and Colorado. The kids always love it.

I would not go back to Chef Mickey's for dinner. Maybe breakfast is a different thing, but dinner there I remember eating nothing. Very messy, it looked like slop, liquidy. The characrers are great but if you are only going there to see Mickey maybe you should just go over to Toontown and see him there. On another note, the only problem I had with Rose and Crown was that our waiter did not tell me how long the "pie" would take to cook. He brought out my dd and dh's dinner and I think he brought out mine a good 45 minutes later. He should have told me when I ordered it how long it would be because I would have ordered something different. Also, don't go to Rose and Crown because the books all tell you that's the best seat in the house to see Illuminations. Because it isn't and chances are unless you have the few good seats available to see it, your view might be block by the awning or other tables in front of you.
