Top 10 Things You Must Take...

This is one of the topics me and my roomies always discuss after check-in. It is very important to bring it up, so everyone is clear on what is what.

Having been down here for over a year now, I would NEVER come down here without a car unless it was just physically impossible to do so.

Its hard to say what you really MUST bring other than personal items. Once you meet all of your roommates and figure out what everyone has, then its time for a trip down the road to Wal-Mart for the rest.

I know I read alot about bringing TVs, so I brought mine....ended up having 4 TVs in a tiny apartment.

Depending on what complex you stay in, you could end up in a situation where you bring too much stuff. Vista has tiny apartments compared to Chatham.

Is there room to put a desktop computer in these apartments?

I lived at Chatham and it was fully furnished. I went out and bought a corner desk on the first day I was there. There is a counter in the dinning room, but it can only fit 2 desktops on it. As far as a list of things to bring down there, I guess it all depends on the person. I drove down there with my friend and really only brought clothes and a TV. High recommend a TV. You can always throw in with your roommates and buy one when you get there. Ask around once you get there, people that are leaving practically give stuff away. Other then that just worry about going down with money and clothes. You are going to be there for quite a few months so you can just add to your apartment as you go.

If you can, bring your CAR. Taking the buses will make you waste hours just getting to and from work. Dress clothes for the first couple of days. Business casual, shirt, tie, nice shoes.

Like I said, don't stress about it to much. I found it a lot easier to buy groceries with your roommate. People that purchased their own stuff always seemed to be upset that someone was eating/using their things. I can't suggest enough, make friends with your roommates and share. It will make your stay so much better. I was there in a 6 person apartment and it was never a issue.

Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do but mine will be HORROR movie posters which is my addiction. :yay:

Just make sure it's ok w/ your roomie. Cuz even if it makes me sound like a wimp, I would not be able to sleep with anything along the lines of horror on the wall.

on a side note, if you are looking at getting things like desks, I remember getting this awesome and cozy chair from the area in the bldg that is cast connections. Is that prop. control? i forget the name. I think i spent no more than $20 on it. They get a lot of stuff from the resorts and parks that they wanna get rid of. And at a pretty decent deal.
I would recommend to try not to go overboard buying everything. I think left behind a whole lot of stuff to friends who where extending. Oh, I could go on about all the wonderful Disney stuff I got at the tent sell during the holidays...add on the discount we get too...a shoppers delight :D

Anyone know how big the Commons apartments are? Will we definitely get to go to Walmart on the first day, because I don't really want to bring pillows and toilet paper with me on a 9 hour flight, lol.

9 hours? Really? Are you coming from Heathrow? Whenever I fly to Heathrow from Chicago it's only around 8 hours. Unless you get delayed or there's a stopover or anything.

Ear plugs and eye mask are nice to have for those who have a hard time sleeping.

I know there are others I would recommend but I'll do an edit and add later.

I'm flying from Manchester in the UK, probably have a stopover in Chicago, and then to Orlando. So yep its a long flight!

i drive 45 minutes..and tada...i am there. :)

yea, my drive is gonna be over 20 hours...although nothing as long for n e 1 trying a drive from the west coast...

a lil road trip is always fun from time to time tho

Fortunately i'm within driving distance so I can bring my car. Unfortunately its a boring 9 hour drive from North Carolina when you're alone.
