Hey everyone!
I am going to be at Universal for a couple weeks this summer and am starting to plan specifics, especially when it comes to dining reservations.
This questions is about Toothsome's on CityWalk!
Do I have to make a reservation for just dessert? To get one of those awesome milkshakes? Do you actually have to come in a sit down to get one of those?
I am willing to do it, but I'm kind of more interested in the milkshakes than the food.
Thanks for any and all help!

I would make a reservation just so that you get into the dining area and enjoy the atmosphere. Otherwise that would be like going to Three Broomsticks and sitting on the patio.

Note, I don't want you to be disappointed in the shakes. Opinions are all over the map. Mine is that the presentation and non-ice cream part of the shake is awesome. But, the ice cream itself like a generic grocery store quality. Also, anything you build up too much will be a disappointment. So, even if it is fabulous it might still be a disappointment.

There is a milkshake only window. They also have some deserts that they can do from the counter. If you are more interested in milkshakes than the food, I would recommend the milkshake to go area.
The food is really good and theming is really cool. It's probably one of the best themed places to eat at Universal.

As others have said, you can order while the rest of your party explores the store area. I’m not sure what the status is during covid- it was wall to wall people when we ordered shakes in 2019. The store area is very cool and worth a look
In.

We got to go shakes back in October and there was no line at the to go counter. The store was relatively full and they didn't seem to be limiting people entering.

If you want to be able to sit down inside the restaurant enjoy the atmosphere, you can do so - I'm sure they are used to that. Do they take reservations now? I know they didn't for a while, and they didn't accept priority seating for hotel guests, so sometimes that resulted in long waits there.

I tend to agree with PP that the shakes are deceiving. The shake itself is your run of the mill average chocolate or vanilla milkshake, and the enticing parts are just stuck in the top or to the side of the glass with frosting. They do have other good desserts though.

They do now. In fact, they've done a 180. It quickly went from reservations allowed, to reservations required. At least in the evenings. I was making reservations a little over a week before the trip. Friday evening had nothing after 4:30pm. I switched to a Sunday and the options had nothing after 5pm and before 8:15pm.

You can either go to the milkshake window or make a reservation. When you check-in tell them you are just there for desserts and you will only be brought the dessert menu. We love the food, desserts and atmosphere at Toothsome's. We eat there several times during our visits.

I forgot to mention. They do have a milkshake-to-go area. You keep the cup, regardless.
I've heard more recent reviews that say they expect the milkshake cup at the table to be returned, but the to-go shake cup is plastic, so you can keep it.

hmmm, in August we ate them at the table. The waiter explained that something had changed since the lockdown. He left with the cups that we'd used and came back with some cups. I can't say if they were the same cups. I was tired and full so he sounded like the adults in Peanuts.

eta: March the to-go area cups were plastic.
