Took my DDs to see Pride and Prejudice

Gotta say that I KNOW the genre is very reserved but I would have liked a hot and heavy love scene. I know it would not have been true to the book but jeesh....to see Mr. Darcy in a hot love scene would have made this one of the most perfect movies of all time. As much as one would want to be true the the book, I doubt that anyone but the most ardent purist would object to seeing that guy glistening and sweaty!! I will be the first to admit it.

That is one of the bummers about Austen. She never married and as far as anyone knows, she died without ever having much of a romantic life. One can assume she probably never had a "hot and heavy love scene" of her own. Since most people tend to write what they know, it's pretty obvious that once she gets to a particularly passionate point in the story, she skirts right over it, probably because it was something she wasn't really familiar or comfortable with.

NOW...if you're looking for a more, er, passionate turn on the story, there are a number of sequels/continuations that try to tackle the subject...

OH I totally understand that but she has been dead for years and lets face it many film makers take tons of "poetic license" with this stuff!! Would it have hurt anyone if the director or screen writer had just filled in what might have happened... :rotfl2:
While we are on the subject how about a remake of Wuthering Heights with Gerard Butler as Heathcliff??? :Pinkbounc

Ooooh, that could be fun! I didn't know anyone had ever done that. Can you point me in the right direction?

I will have to try and find that BBC version locally. Last time I saw Colin Firth was that movie with the "Amanda show" girl in it where he was her father...can't remember that name for the life of me--he is pretty hot. And closer to my age than the guy in the new P&P.
I've seen Clueless...can't imagine renting the one with Gwyneth P. because I don't like her much...I'll just have to start watching more BBC America.

If you have a Target near by, check there. My Target carries it.

I enjoyed the new movie version of P&P but nothing beats the BBC version. I think I may pop it in now. lol!

When I was looking for P&P stuff on EBay they had a "sequel" called "Mr. Darcy takes a Wife"--not by Austen, obviously, I don't remember the author. Said it was about the beginning of the marriage, and they have several "great sex scenes" (I'm quoting)but why can't they conceive, and also Jane and Bingley, whose sex life isn't so great, etc. I was thinking it was along the lines of "Scarlett", the "GWTW" sequel someone else wrote in the 1980's since Margaret Mitchell was long dead.

OMG!!! I've read this one! :rotfl2: I picked up at at the library one day and I couldn't put it down--it was like a train wreck--I couldn't look away!

Picture about the trashiest, smuttiest romance novel you can find, and swap out the P&P characters for the usual cast. The author (Linda Berdoll) doesn't leave much to the imagination. The book opens with Elizabeth trying to deal with the soreness of her nether end on the day after her wedding (no, I'm not kidding...) and kind of goes on from there. I'm all for hearing the passionate "happily ever after" story for Elizabeth and Darcy, but I'm not sure I needed to know how they managed her "womanly affliction". Definitely not a book for the faint of heart!!!

The best place I've found for a list of continuations of P&P is amazon.com. Just do a search for Pride & Prejudice and you'll get a full list!

Wow! I'm glad you've actually read this one, does NOT sound like the romantic fantasy I had envisioned....I wasn't looking for a Judith Krantz type novel with Darcy in it! :rotfl2: Think I'll skip that one.

I couldn't help myself. It lept into my arms at Barnes and Noble this morning.
