Too old for Pirate Cruise?

I was thinking of having DS(10) do the Pirate cruise, but was wondering if he is too old for it? This will be our first trip to WDW and I want to make a special trip for all of us. If the Pirate Cruise is too old, what other things would you suggest for a typical bug-crawlin, dinosaur-lovin, science-cravin 10 year old boy?

My 9 1/2 year old son loved the CBR Pirate Cruise in January!

Yes do the Pirate Cruise.
My almost 11yr old did it two weeks ago and liked it.
Wasn't too thrilled with the "Treasure" but had fun.
It was also my kids' first trip to WDW.
Actually both my sons went on the pirate cruise at GF and my daughter did the Alice in Wonderland Tea Party. It was really neat for them to do something special like that.

My kids are similar - 4 trips. Their favorite was when they were very young. By now (my son is ten), its BORING and most of the pirates are younger. This last trip they took their four year old cousin and had a good time being "in charge" of him.

But YMMV.

I also wouldn't spend half a day on a first trip on an activity your son doesn't even need to know exists. A first trip to WDW will be a special trip without a pirate cruise.

My ten year old loves:

Lunch at the Sci Fi Drive in
Rides, Rides and More Rides. Mission Space, Tower of Terror, Space Mountain.
Water Parks - we could spend two days at water parks.

TOO OLD - I totally agree for a first trip there are so many cool things for a 10 year old to do. I think he would much rather have fun in the parks. I agree the sci fi is fun for that age. Another idea is after a few days in the parks give him the maps and let him make the plans. Pick the park he wants to go to and what to ride it can be his day.

If it gives perspective - we are going Easter to WDW and my 3 kids are going on the pirate cruise (ages 4,5,6).

I was thinking of booking this one for my son...can anyone tell me what the "Treasure" is? Just trying to figure out if he will like it or not...

My kids "treasure" came in a red paper bag and inside it was gems, rings, necklaces, eyeballs, sticky bugs, sticky slime stuff, gold coins, a little treasure chest, and some other little stuff.

I thought the treasure was kind of generic, but the kids liked it.


The cruise is more about the experience than the treasure. From what my kids have told me - They tell you a story at the beginning about a pirate and his life and his treasure and then they set out to find it. They sailed all around the CBR lake and saw skeletons and collected keys and maps. They got off the boat several times ( about 5-6 ). They stopped once for a bathroom break and used the bathrooms by the pool. They got to "steal" lunch from some sleeping people on the island. Finally they found the treasure and came back to the dock and opened it.

My 9 & 7 year old really enjoyed it! They still talk about it! I don't think I'd send them on it again though, after the first time it would probably be a let down since they would know what to expect after that. Definitely worth the money for something special to do once!
