Just so you know, I picked the Bogen-Manfrotto 3021BPRO. I found a camera shop fairly close by that sells them for $169. That's just $2 more than the best internet price I found and I get to use a local retailer (I prefer to buy local when I can). They were out of stock so I'll have my new tripod in a week or so when the next shipment comes in.
They were also a Giottos dealer but that's a special order item so I couldn't handle one in the store. I did play around with a Bogen tripod that was similar to the 3021BPRO in size and weight. I was very surprised. It was nothing like what you find in your typical mall camera store. It was very well made and the movement in all the parts was so smooth! It did feel a little heavier than I expected it to.
So the Giottos looks awesome (thanks for all the pics Jann). But with the Bogen I'm getting a well established brand, a pound lighter for less money from a local dealer.
Now I have to pick a ball head!
