Too many to fit in a one bedroom? Help!

We're planning on taking another couple with us to the Wilderness Lodge Villas and staying in a one-bedroom. They have twin boys, one year old. We have an infant daughter, four months old.
Is this going to work?
Are we crazy?

Big need for cribs, there. I think that may be a bit too much and uncomfortable. I think it only allows one child uner 3 years with the four, anyway. There is only one pack and play in the villa, also. Could you not look into a two bedroom or a studio and a one bedroom combination or two studios?

It sure would be fun with friends and little ones, but I would not do it if I had that opportunity without different arrangements.

We are vacationing with two other families in October 2003, and thought of a Grand Villa at OKW for the trip, but realize that may be too much for the three families to be together and we are not even going over the occupancy limits (12 people).

7 in a 1 BR, seems a bit cozy. Even if you could get a second crib, I don't think it will work.

Sounds like a two bedroom might be nicer, each couple could have thier own bedroom, you could put the kids to bed and still socialize in the livingroom. If you've got the points, it might be worth it. Of course, there's always late night snacking.

4 adults -- 3 babies -- lots of cribs -- one bathroom? If you are planning to stay more than one night I think I'd plan some other arrangement if you intend to remain friends.

While it's tough to give up the kitchen and w/d with the babies, two studios might be the way to go if you can't swing a two-bedroom point-wise.

I agree with PamOKW. WE are a family of 5 (baby no longer under 3!!) and now need the 2 BR, not only because it is what the contract say but for privacy and SPACE!!! Nothing worse then being on top of each other during your vacation!!!

I would get the 2 BR as well.

While a 1BR is big that would still be a little too close for my comfort. Also as it has been pointed out, occupancy limits in the contract spell out 4 adults and 1 child under the age of 3 in a 1BR.

If you don't have enough points for a 2BR at WLV, try OKW. The point values for a 2BR are lower there.

I agree that it is a lot of people in that size room. I would suggest the 2 studios or 2 bedroom as well. If you want the 2 bedroom and are short points, possibly you could rent the points needed to complete your reservation. Maybe your friends would be willing to pay for the extra points needed? I don't think you are crazy but maybe a bit optimistic. I hope you can get a 2Br. Think about 4 adults and 3 kids and ONE bathroom! I know the kids won't be "using" the bathroom but changing them and cleaning up afterwards. And nap times! A 2Br will give space for the little ones to have quiet room and the adults have space to socialize. Good Luck!

Thank you all for your input. I didn't realize (since it has never been more than my DW and myself on a trip before) that you were only allowed one infant and four adults in a one bedroom. I t'aint no rule breaker! If it were not for rules, society would breakdown into chaos.

Just to point it out...2 studios have the same point value as a 1 bedroom. So unless you really need that Jacuzzi tub, the stove...or the ability for all of the adults to gather while the kids nap then 2 studios is the way to go. Otherwise I'd go for a 2 bedroom at Old Key West because that is also the same point value as a 1 bedroom in VWL...of course there you have the stroller transportation problem & you can't get "home" quickly from the parks.

I think two studios would be your best bet, also. I would respectfully take issue with your inability to get back to OKW quickly from the parks, also. With the exception of MK, OKW generally has better transportation and shorter rides to the theme parks than does VWL (this isn't a "my resort is better than yours" statement, but just an observation on the bus routes and quality of bus service at WDW). Though OKW gets a bad rap from some on its bus service, when we were there over the Christmas holidays, we never had to wait longer than 10 minutes for a bus (except on New Year's Eve, and that was about a 15-20 minute wait to board the bus) and the bus rides were very short--especially to and from Epcot and MGM (only 8-10 minutes ride to each). So, if you want to try a vacation home at OKW, don't let the thought of the bus service deter you, especially if you are going at a busier time of the year.

Taking buses all the time with little kids and a double stroller is not easy, we have done it. Taking the boat to MK with strollers is much easier the kids don't even have to get out of the stroller. Epcot can be gotten to by taking a boat and monorail and not having to take the kids out of the stroller either. MGM we go to very little but when we do we take the boat from Epcot. AK we do have to use the bus and we hate it. YMMV. I say 2 studios at VWL or Boardwalk to make it easier traveling with little kids.

I'm voting for the 2 BR at OKW.

(1) You and your friends will be much more relaxed with 2 bedrooms and the living room. With 3 young children you will be spending a lot of time in your room.
(2) You will have a kitchen and a full refrigerator for baby food, etc.
(3) You will have a full washer and dryer (!).
(4) The OKW porches are the best and most relaxing (IMO).
(4) Strollers are a pain on any form of transportation. Double strollers may not fit on the monorail or the boat and the twins would have to be removed anyway.

We have never had to take our children out of our double stroller on the boat or monorail. Our stroller is front to back not double wide so maybe that is the difference. Our children are young and most of the times fall asleep in their stroller, not having to move them is a blessing. When we have stayed at OKW using the buses was just too much for us so we drove everywhere. This was also hard getting the kids in and out of the car and in the stroller, also DH wasn't happy to have to drive everywhere while he was on vacation. He does enough of that everyday commuting to work.
If you have enough points for a 2 BR, I think that is also the way to go, I thought that you did not have enough points for a 2 BR. If you get a 2 BR and are traveling with 3 young children you will be at MK a great deal and VWL is the easiest Disney Vacation Club resort to get to and from if you are using Disney transportation.

I would also point out that getting to MGM from VWL according to the directions given would necessitate a boat ride to MK or TTC, one or two monorails to Epcot, a walk all the way through Epcot to catch the boats at the International Gateway, then a boat ride to MGM via Y&BC, BW, and Swan/Dolphin. Yes, the strollers are a pain, but I have to think that a 5-10 minute bus ride has to be easier than the convolutions described!

I'd go with the 2-bedroom. You'll all have much more privacy, a full kitchen, and the washer and dryer. The washer and dryer alone, I should think, will be worth their weight in gold!

As far as location, we've stayed at OKW, and our home is VWL. In both places, transportation was never an issue. From VWL, you can take the ferry to MK, which is very nice, but I wouldn't use that as a priority in choosing where to stay. If you've only got enough points for a 2br at OKW, you'll be fine.
