Too hot to handle walk in September?

Hello

We are heading to DLR Sept 10th to 16th and are staying at the Hilton Anaheim...and I am a walker (I walk to work and back everyday so a 20 minute walk is no biggie) and am quite fit...however, I do live in Canada and am used to cooler temps (today it was humid and 82 F)...and I going to melt walking in California in September from the Hilton to DLR?

Am I going to have to depend upon the ART?

Would love the freedom to walk...

Thoughts??

Inga

You might! :)

September is usually pretty hot in Anaheim. You can check out the historical weather data at http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner

We have been at DL in March, June, August and September, and September was by far the hottest. Whether this is typical, I'm not sure, but it's certainly possible for it to be in the mid 90s. However, it does cool down quite a bit at night, so early in the morning and after the sun goes down you should be quite comfortable walking. In the middle of the day? I wouldn't count on it, but you never know! :)

I'm also quite fit and am on my feet walking for 8 hours a day at work, but the location of your hotel is FAR. I'm all about the freedom of walking, but I have done that walk before during a 3-day stay and I'll just say that we ended up not even going to the parks on the third day because our feet were in shambles after the walk. That was 3 years ago before I knew better and thought that 1.1 miles each way was "easy". After walking to and from the parks twice a day (mid-day breaks), I learned my lesson. If possible, I'd suggest trying to hitch a ride on the free shuttle from the Toy Story lot which is near your hotel.

Interesting...I think it might be the cumulative effect of walking in the parks all day...I need to find the Toy Story lot on a map to figure this out...

Thanks MRSWH

I will have to be a little more realistic on this plan, I think:)

When you walk out of the hotel, you will be on Convention Way. Go to the intersection with Harbor and the TS lot is strait across.

FWIW, I find September to be really hot, but am from a much cooler area. It's a relative thing.

Absolutely. Just over a mile walk seems perfectly doable. Doing it four times a day when you take a mid-day break puts you at about 4.5 miles. I probably walk at least that during my time in the parks, if not much more, so we're talking about walking at least 10 miles a day. It adds up!

We have alot of humidity here on the east coast of Canada...so sometimes if the temperature is up here it is unbearable because of it...anyway, humidity or not I am sure it will be hot...

PS thanks for the info...;)

A typical day at DLR has 7-10 miles of walking I understand. Add anything to that and it is a downer. I do 7-mile mountain hikes about four times a week and am a power walker. But after 10-12 hours at the parks you do not want to walk to a hotel a mile away. Heck, you do not want to walk to a hotel 100 yards away! You are bone tired.

Yep, I put on a pedometer a few times to see how many miles I was walking at Disneyland. On a "commando" day, we did almost 10 miles! On more relaxing days, we still did 7 miles. Add in a few more miles walking to your hotel and back and you are looking at walking a half marathon! So, save your poor feet and drive, catch the ART, or the Toy Story bus.

You also have to figure that the miles you cover in the parks are stressful miles, meaning you have abrupt stops and starts. Much more tiring than walking an open course.

Actually it is the standing in one place that tires me. Especially queue lines like Aladdin that don't move at all for 30-40 minutes.

I would not add a distant hotel in my plan. The closer the better!

Agreed...perhaps it will have to be the ART as well, as DH conference is close to the Hilton...silly Microsoft people!

Agreed...at least I have some options;)

Yes, it's amazing how it SOUNDS right when I am sitting at home planning...a mile walk, no problemo...but wait till I have to DO it!!
