I know this may need to be in the W.I.S.H forum, but I prefer it to be in the teens forum as it helps more ..

Okay, I know that I am fat [I am around 170 at size 14 and I am around 5'4 or 5'5]

But my mom just came in and told me I needed to lose 20 pounds before spring break and if I do, I can choose where we go [Of course I choose DISNEY!]
First she tried threatening by taking away the computer, then I just said I would read then.

I know that she used to be fat in high school and my dad was but just lost 30 pounds by exercising and that my sister is kind of big too but part of that is genetics.

I just .. I'm sensitive. I cry at the smallest things.
I know all the right things to do, all the right things to eat and how to exercise. I am young, too, so that will make losing the weight easier.

I just .. I need help coping with this with other teens.

How do you cope with losing weight [if you need to] or gaining [if you need to]?

-hugs-
I'm sorry about that, really, it's never easy to hear, exspecially from your own mom, and I've had that before.

I'm going to pick up running and wiifit soon, but the hardest thing is both my parents are overweight and buy tons of junkfood I want to tell them to stop buying it, it's bad for all of us, but I don't think they'd listen.

I guess coping would go, just remember you're becoming healthier. Not for appearance, but your health =)

Thank You

That actually helps me.

I am going to just pick up working out on our equipment that we have

the only problem is mom is annoying and I try to start out slow and work my way up but I automatically start really fast [i like to run, just not around people] and she is all, GO FASTER!!
And I go for like, 30 minutes and she is like, ANOTHER 20.

She doesn't understand. Then she flaunts herself around me going 'look how thin I am!'
I just reply saying all I see is her beer-belly

:yay: =Let it begin

I'm sorry your mom's being so hard on you.
Like, it really does not help, she should be encouraging positvely =)
I think it's great you're trying to be healthier!

Just to let you know I am here for you and if you ever have a struggle day I will talk to you. You can do this.

Wow.

First of all, you are not that much bigger than the average woman in the US. The average jean size is around a 12-14, so you are NOT fat. Sure, you may not be as tiny as those models seen on tv, but so what? Very few REAL people can get down to those small sizes and remain healthy.

Also, when I'm stressing over things, on vacation, or Aunt Flo is paying me a visit, I ALWAYS gain some. Whether it be because I'm eating more than I usually do in an attempt to 'de-stress' or gaining water weight, it always happens and I know to expect it. So, taking those into consideration, that may be part of the issue. And those things you can't really do a whole lot about. You just have to...work through them and try your best to get everything under control to the best of your ability.

At home, my mother is also a big calorie watcher. Instead of drinking and cooking with milk that has fat in it, we use skim milk. Instead of eating normal bacon, we eat turkey bacon. Everything we buy is either low-fat or fat free. Instead of getting REAL soda, we get diet. The only time I ever get to drink Dr. Pepper that isn't diet is when I'm dead thirsty at school, we're eating out somewhere (which is pretty rare as well), or it's a special occasion.

For your situation, I'd just suggest to watch the amount of calories you eat each day. Make sure that you take in NO MORE than 2,000. Try to avoid greasy and fatty foods and drink diet soda's vs. 'real' sodas. Yes, they don't taste as good as the real stuff...but you do get used to it after a while. Actually, many times after drinking the diet sodas you lose the craving for anything any sweeter because it just tastes...ick. That's the way it is for me most of the time...excluding the normal Dr. Peppers. Because....well....Dr. Pepper is just amazing. It's complete and utter <333.

Also, find something fun to do to keep yourself active. Go to the park, get involved with a sport, or-if you're able to afford it-buy a Nintendo wii. Those things can get you moving and they're really fun too.

Don't let anyone get you down, k? You're fine just the way you are and if you really want to get the pounds off, you can-and WILL.

Send me a PM if you need any support, k?

just saying, turkey bacon actually isn't good for you.
we eat it here too, but mostly because it's cheaper than real bacon.

I want to wish you good luck!

Tell them how you feel, i think they would want to support you.
I think that YOU wanting to change, would give THEM the push to get healthier also.

Also, do you have a Trader Joes store near you?
They have "Junk Food" that is extremely tasty but not as bad for you.
Also, it is WAY cheaper then the brands at normal grocers

They actually love Trader Joes.

I mean we're all trying to be healthier... but when they buy giant hershey bars and my mom wonders why she doesn't lose weight I just :sad2:

That is JUST how my mom is!

She loves trader joes.
But hides chocolate around the house

Then complains about her body.

She has SO many excuses not to exercise.
:sad2:

i am overweight too. and have been through high school. it wasnt easy, but i made it through. i think it helped me become stronger.

i want to lose weight for myself. because i have a goal. and i will do anything in this world to get to it, but i have to lose weight first. ive started a blog on live journal that i plan on using to document my "journey".

it's really hard to talk to other people about my goal because people think its stupid, or they just dont understand why it means so much to me.

just remember it will make you feel better about yourself and you will be healthier when you do. i bought a promise bracelet (it says "i wish to be the fairest of them all" in cinderella blue) and i wear it around my wrist so that i can remember to reach for something better to eat instead of something bad. little things like that can help you to remind yourself and inspire you to keep going.

good luck.

Wow. I can't believe your mom is doing and saying those things to you. That must hurt so much.

What is your goal?
You can say anything on the dis, nobody will judge you.

I dont think it was cruel.
I think that she has a genuine concern for her child.
And it was optional for her to lose weight.
She didnt say she had to, she said IF you lose 20 pounds you can choose where we go.

I dont think it was cruel, I think she was genuinely concerned about her health.

Wow, first of all, While I do think your mother is showing she cares, she shouldn't address it in such a rude manner. That was hard, and she has no excuse considering she was a teen once and should know how much that would've hurt.

Eat smaller portions. Eat 6 SMALL meals a day instead of 3 large meals. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs. Drink water, not soda. Get off the computer and go for a walk. Feel stress?, go for a run. Little starts will help you build up.

My personal choice for weight loss? Chemotherapy. Makes you nauseaus = makes you puke. The more you puke, the more weight you lose. It also makes your stomach smaller. I lost 45 pounds and now I can barely finish a kid's meal.
;)

but the hardest thing is both my parents are overweight and buy tons of junkfood I want to tell them to stop buying it, it's bad for all of us, but I don't think they'd listen.

Then take a stand. Boycott the junk food, you don't have to eat it just because it's there. If they don't listen, well they chose their fate.

First of all, you are not that much bigger than the average woman in the US. The average jean size is around a 12-14,

But you need to remember that the majority of the US is either overweight or obese.

I'm so sorry. I know the feeling. My mom gets on me all the time about my weight and how ever much i lose is never good enough. I was wearing a tight 12 at the begining of the year and now i'm at a loose 10 tight 8. How i did it was cut out most junk food. Exersized alot (ran 2 miles every day during summer) And I got a job which is helping alot. doing things to de-stress your life help alot to! We used to have an inspired to be healthy thread on here i think we need it again...

You have such a good sense of humor Sonya!

Exactly!

Actually, it is.

According to FitSugar.com, most turkey bacon brands have 10 less calories, half the fat, 1.5 less saturated fat and 3 more grams of protein. The only downs it has is in regards to cholesterol (where it's 4 mg more) and sodium (where it's 30 mg more), but given that it is relatively better for people in 4 out of the 6 areas...

I guess it really just depends on what you think the most important factor is tho.

I have a weight roller coaster. I have random non-eating spells where I don't eat or drink of as much as 8 or 9 days! I just never get hungry. I try eating, and my stomach never agrees. The doc says it's normal for teenagers. I told this too my friends, and they thought I was anorexic -_-. Luckily I didn't have one of these during the food and wine festival. Why am I sharing this? I don't know, back to the topic of you. My advice is just drink water (no, Vitamin Water doesn't count) and try to eat healthfully. No, don't try, DO eat healthgully. Don't eat in front of the TV, you eat way more that way. Eat in more often, and have a small lunch. But definitley eat breakfast, that's the most important. You can lose at least 5 pounds from eating a normal breakfast for a month, if you haven't been. I used to be overweight, and those Hollywood Cookie Diets don't work, BTW. I'm a guy, so I dont' know if this will help.

Yes to breakfast, no to in front of the T.V.

Watch what you eat. Realize how much you're eating. Think about what's in it.

Take walks, with friends, with dogs, with family. Try to walk at least a mile a day. Healthily you want 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise, therefore two miles a day would be a good starter.

Say no to:
  • Non-diet pop
  • Pizza
  • Fries
  • Burgers
  • Starbucks (yes, it's sad)
  • Grilled/Fried (grilled is fine, sometimes. as long as it's not drenched in butter)
Just stop and think, before you sit down at the computer, would it be better if I took a walk now, then I can go on? Or before you open that bag of Cheetos, does this really work to my advantage, or would an apple satisfy me just as well?

Thinking before you start eating, or pigging out, or sitting down, is going to help. It helped me (: I realized it'd be better to get out and walk instead of racking up my posts, and that it'd be better to eat an apple instead of stuffing my face with ice cream.

Wish you luck!

well I gained some weight since last year about 25 lbs, even though most of it was muscle there is some portion of fat. I am trying to trim that and eat healthier. Today was my last day of soda and hopefully from now on I will eat only healthy food. And I am going to start lifting again.
