Too close to home! Update page 1

I live in a quiet suburban neighborhood full of minivans and soccer Moms...where kids ride their biks to the pool and pretty much everybody knows everybody. Yesterday, in this place that used to feel safe, a man stopped a 10 year old girl at her mailbox and asked her to get into his car to help him find his lost puppy. Thankfully my neighborhood is also full of hovering parents and the Mom was watching the little girl from the house. When she came out the guy sped away and crisis was averted thanks to that "overprotective" Mom (reference to another thread)!!! So we had the "stranger" talk with the kids again last night and my heart ached as they fell asleep fearful...again. It's a tough time to be a kid...and an overprotective Mom.

Well you are gonna be pleasantly surprised with this one!! I know everybody in our neighborhood is!! The man who said he lost his puppy? Really DID lose his puppy!!!! The police found him this afternoon and said his story checks out! The news said that maybe the child mis-understood and became frightened. She had every right to be frightened IMHO!! The man used very poor judgement asking questions of a child and not an adult...everybody should know that in this day and time!!! So sorry to darken everybody's day with this story this morning, but soooo glad I can update this story in a happy way!!!

That is very frightening! I'm so glad that everything is okay. I've been accused of being overprotective in the past but I don't care....I need to be able to see my kids and know where they are at all times. It was fortunate that your neighbor waswatching her daughter, protecting thechildren is the most important thing.

Well anyone can accuse me of being over-protective, I don't care but I must "see or hear" my children when they are outside and many times when my 5 yr old is outside, I move my big german sheppard to the front of the house and tie her up on the side of the driveway, first of all anyone stops by my house SHE WILL TELL ME and second of all if you are brave enough to get out of the car to get my child, let's see if you get passed the dog ( she'll ripp your legg out! ) But I still give them the "strangers" talk especially to the youngest one, everyday before they go out.

I'm an overprotective Mom, too. Only nowadays it's not really OVERprotective. Sometimes I don't know how we manage to be protective enough. Imagine if that mother had been washing dishes... or even just in the bathroom for a minute. It's frightening and it's sad to think what could have happened. And this guy is still out on the street, what's to say he won't try again. It's starting to seem like an epidemic.

groosch...excuss the rant...but it is so, so, so, so, sad... that we now live in a day and age where this needs to be a concern.


Here in the Farm neighborhood...as a kid..no one ever locked the house doors day nor night...no one ever took thar keys out of there cars....I know, I know...times have changed.....but yer know what....I liked "Mayberry" better!

Next time, make sure someone takes down the car's license plate and report it to the police.

Sadly, if he did on your block, it's likely that he's done it somewhere else.

Another "over protective" Mom checking in. Our son isn't even allowed in the front yard unless we're with him...never has been and won't be for a long time yet to come. ANYTIME we are out of this house, he knows I need to see him AND be within arm's reach of him at all times. This is a bit silly considering he's bigger than I am now, but I am however still the Mommy.

That is so scary and SO sad, Dream. Thank God that mother was watching! I agree with GP.... I liked Mayberry better too. It used to be Mayberry like here... no more.

That is a GREAT update. The guy was a nitwit asking kids to help him find his puppy, but a great update nonetheless.

Hey, do you have any high energy Smoothies? I am running on about 3.5 hours of sleep because of month end stuff, and 2 out of 4 people in my dept are on vacation, and the other one left is out tomorrow with a migraine. (she went home today, and quite frankly, the mood she was in, I would rather fly solo than deal with her)

Dream, I am so happy to know that not everyone in this world is someone we need to worry about... but I would have been asking the parents and not the kids myself.

It is good to know that not everyone in this world has sick intentions. Although he used very poor judgement in asking a 10 year old for help - didn't he ever hear that example of what a kidnapper would use as a ploy when he was a child?
