Tonight - Spaceship Earth evacuated!

Just wondering ... from those folks complaining about not getting any compensation ... did you ask? If you went to Guest Relations or asked for an Attractions manager and specifically ASKED for compensation for the downtime or the inconvenience and didn't get compensated, that's one thing. If you never asked, then that's another. Most of the people who helped you out of the ride and were dealing with the situation likely had no authority to provide compensation. And, frankly, they were probably focused on other things at the time.

:earsboy:

We got stuck on Pooh during our Dec. 2003 trip. I guess it was for about 20-30 minutes. Finally they came and escorted out of the ride. It was pretty neat getting to walk through it!:D Once we were out, we were given a pass to do any other Fantasyland attraction.

when I ride it. I've had to walk out of it 3 times, the other times I just sit for at least 20 to 30 mins. You'd think I'd learn my lesson and not ride, but I'm always talked into going on that ride by someone and without failure the stupid thing stops...do you think they could stop the singing? no! lol. It's now part of my wdw tradition. :hyper:

Iv'e been astuck on plenty of rides butevacuated from one. Which was not at a Disney park. My brother, sister, and I were on the Comet at great escape and they E-stoped it. (Some one jumped the fence) We were in our seats for 20 minutes. they then took us off. They tested it and we got back on in te same seats. It wasnt scary because we were in the station (kind of). It was an intresting experience. the best though was when I was stuck on the Coney island Cyclone. Half way up the lift the ride slowed down, stoped, rolled backwards like 2 inches and stoped for 20 minutes now that was cool. I got stuck in plah Mountain for 20-30-40 minutes in 1995. It scared me to death because I was 5. The people behind us were screaming were all gonna die. Iv'e been stopped on HM (because a handycap persone was getting on/off) for 5-10 minutes. Been stuck on Superman ultimate Flight at Six Flags Great Adventure for 10-15 minutes (very uncomfortable) been E-stopped twice on Batman The Ride at Great Adventure. I was also stuck at the top of Rolling Thunder at Six Flags great Adventure for 10 minutes.

Mine is "Yo Ho Yo Ho a pirates life for me" just that one sentence over and over for 30 minutes. I have avoided the ride for the last 15 years now!

Oh, please, things break down, it happens. Why do you think you needed compensation for that? What happens when you are stuck in traffic, do you need compensation for that?
Talk about entitlement mentality.

I've never been evacuated at a disney park but I was once at the Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. This was back in the 80's and we were with my best friend's catholic church group. My best friend has CP and walks with crutches, without them...well, let's just say she doesn't get too far without hand rails or able bodied people to lean on. Anyway, we were heading up the hill on the log flume ride and it is a pretty good distance up. We were in the very front of the car...she was basically sitting in my lap. they had us wait a few minutes to try and get it started again but no such luck. They told us to walk down the wet stairs back to the bottom. Colleen and I just laughed and said they had to come up with something better as she couldn't do those steps even with her crutches as the wet would cause her to slide down the stairs. After about an hour, which went by fast because all teh cute guys were working the ride were talking to us, we finally began walking to the bottom. Colleen was one lucky dog...she had 4 big strong good looking guys holding on to her as she headed down the stairs. Her muscles were spasming so it was really slow...but it was probably our best experience of the day!! Unfortunately our chaperones were watching and were about to have heart attacks, but we all made it down. We still laugh when we go and see the logs sitting at the top of the hill!

WOW, you've had some experiences!!!! I would be really apprehensive after all that! Sounds like you take it in stride though!! :D

We were evacuated from Spaceship earth last year. some people sitting in front of us kept complaining about how they should be compensated etc.. I felt like telling them that they should be so lucky as to get to walk through the ride. not everybody gets a close up view with the lights on and gets to walk around in there. I loved it but then again I have been on it so many times before.
We were stuck on Kongfrontation (at Universal) for what seemed like eternity. just dangling in the air and once Spiderman broke down and we rode through backwards. now that was weird! I just hope and pray I'm never on Its a small world when it breaks down or I would go crazy.

Now THAT would be a NIGHTMARE!! I can't get that song out of my head after going through it once, let alone getting STUCK in there!!!! I'd come out bald because I'd pull all my hair out!! LOL

InstImpres, my family and I were on POC when it broke down a couple of years ago. Must have been at the same location; we were directly in front of the two quys and the donkey. We were stuck 20-30 minutes before they evacuated us.

We went up one of the stairs on one of the fake buildings. The stairs are very narrow and pretty steep (for forced perspective). Anyway, there isn't anything secret about the inside of the POC. However, we were escorted past the floats for the Share a Dream Come True parade.

Anyway, on the next trip about 4 mos. later, my then 2-1/2 year old burst out into tears as soon as we rounded the corner from the fort/pirate ship battle. We often joke about how traumatized he must have been. Now he's ok with it.

Being stuck in traffic and on a ride are two diferent things
Getting stuck on a ride is uncomfortable. Say your wet, hot, whatever you cant do anything, what if your afraid of hieghts and you get stuck high. What if you waited hours and it broke down and walked you off. When your stuck in traffic you have radio, heater, ac, buch of stuff. There much different to deal with.

We got stuck and then walked off TT this past Oct.We were outside on the track that SLANTS!! It was DH Joe then my son Erich and me in the front of the car so I was at the TOP just being held by the seat belt.Which after 35 min. starts to cut into a persons neck! OY! Several times annoucements were made but the loud speaker was so garbbled we couldn't understand what they were saying! Finally a CM came out...we had him take our picture first then we got out of the car. From the car down to the track was a good 2 foot, which wasn't exactly easy for me,who is short :teeth: to get down to!!! Then the CM lead us around the track the direction we should have gone in our car,to a stairway under the tracks into a back door,by the CM lockers down a hall until we exited into the gift shop! I took pictures the whole way!!!
As we were leaving the CM gave us Front of the Line passes that are good forever. I'm not sure we'll be using those anytime soon!:p

IMHO, they are about the same. I am, for the record, scared to death of heights. I just adopt the attitude that do do occurs and some things cannot be helped. I also NEVER wait for hours for anything. Luckily, I can time my visits when the parks are slow and I can pretty much walk on to most attractions. I have been on rides that have stopped for a period of time, for me, it was no big deal. I have yet been stopped long enough to be walked off, I think that would be a neat experience.

There may be different things to deal with but the bottom line is that "stuff" happens and we (most adults) know that. My 17 year daughter is physically handicapped and we know that when she goes on rides at Disney we are taking a chance of getting stuck. We have decided that it is worth whatever risk there is, my DH is still able to carry her for fairly long distances so chances are we would not need the fire department to get her off the ride. Still, I would rather have to wait for evacuation assistance from the FD rather than have Disney restrict access to their rides for the physically handicapped. Disney could easily close certain rides to physically disabled persons due to safety (like they do for height requirements) and would probably be well within their rights. Instead they have evacuation plans in place that allow physically disabled to enjoy the rides. It may take some time but the alternative is not appealing. Fortunately it has only happened once to us and that was at SM, we were close enough to the end that our car was almost in the station. My daughter says them turning on the lights has forever changed the ride for her but that's another story ;)

I agree that "stuff" happens all the time even at Disney World. It would be nice if we recieved things for our trouble in real life but that won't be happening anytime soon! :teeth: But when I am at the happiest place on earth being given a front of the line pass for a real inconvience just adds to the "magic" IMHO! That's what makes WDW such a special place! And yes being stuck was fun in a way,we have a great story to tell now...I hope one day to see SM with the lights on! ;)

Dec 2000 my DH and several of our friends were stuck on Splash Mtn right at the ZIP TE DE DO DA sequence for 45 minutes. The rest of us sang it the rest of the trip just to hear them say, "Shut Up."

Katrina,
Could you please let us know when you plan to ride Small World! I really don't want to be stuck with the children singing that song and your luck seems pretty bad. I want to be sure you and I aren't there at the same time LOL!

Yep, Deb, you are totally correct, and, I think those "Stops" are for a wonderful reason. All folks then get to enjoy!!!!

I got stuck on Star Torus 2 summers back, the door would not open. But the car I was in got another trip and nobody got off(and the fun part was I must have landed in the SW junkie car:) )
