OK, what does Tonga Toast really taste like? Is it worth going and getting it for breakfast?

It tastes like a little slice of heaven here on earth. Kona Cafe IMHO is the best place for breakfast at Disney. I'm a fan of the Big Kahuna platter and the press pot of Kona Coffee is great, expensive, but great. The Tong toast is stuffed with bananas to answer your question. It is sweet like any french toast.

Do not be fooled by the "Tonga Toast" listed on the RFC breakfast menu. Kona has the only true Tonga Toast. Over at RFC it is just regular french toast topped with sliced bananas.

Ick. I thought it was so gross, though I know many love it.

It takes like a HUGE donut smushed full of smashed bananas. It's over the top sweet, IMO, but I don't care for sweets too much. It's also pretty greasy and very heavy. I think it was covered in cinnamon sugar.

If you like big donuts full of bananas then it's unique and not found anyplace else that I know of. Other than that, their breakfast is pretty traditional breakfast fare found anywhere. =)

"Tonga Toast" is the yummiest breakfast food in the world! :flower:

To me, it's the most fabulous breakfast around. It is VERY sweet and on top of that I add a ton of syrup :Pinkbounc so I'm nice and gooey all day :rotfl:
We'll be at The Poly for part of this stay, I bet I have this more than once :rotfl: Enjoy!

Ok, after reading so much about this on the DIS boards, I just had to try the Tonga Toast last September. It was pretty good...for the first 6 bites or so. Then, it was just wayyyy too sweet and rich. I believe it is deep fried....AND encrusted with cinnamon & sugar (not just sprinkled like I thought it would be). It was just too sweet for me to eat the whole thing.

But....at least I can say I've had it! :teeth:

Thanks everyone! I think I will share it with my husband and get a regular breakfast to go with it. It sounds too sweet to have that alone for breakfast.

Tonga Toast is absolutely delicious. It's sweet and rich though, so me and my DH usually split. I can't eat a whole one and surprisingly neither can he. It's sourdough bread stuffed with bananas, rolled and sugar and cinammon, laced with butter and fried. Need I say more? It's definitely worth the trip. And, the kona coffee is delicious. Also, try the fresh squeezed pineapple juice. You'll be so sweet when you leave - yummmmy!
