Tom Sawyer's Island closed!!

oh! i was looking foward to go there this trip because my sister and brother were too young to go alone so i had to hang around with them last year but now they are older so i could of gone alone and venture off and explore new things, i'm going to disney july 26-august 5! oh well, there is still PLENTY to do and i'm not going to let that get in the way. (besides i don't want to run in with an alligator):teeth:

We've never been to Tom Sawyer's Island but do plan to visit it on this trip (in November). Hopefully we won't come face to face w/a gator but I would love to explore the island for the adventure of it. I've heard some really good things about it and figured we wouldn't miss out on it this time.

I believe alligators are still on Florida's endangered list, and state law prohibits anyone, even property owners, from disturbing them. As long as the gator is not posing a threat to humans or animals ( and their mere presence isn't considered a threat ), the Florida Wildlife Commission, who are the only people authorized to "remove" gators from anywhere according to a piece I read on this subject, will advise property owners to leave them alone and let the gators move on in their own time. So I don't think Disney has any authority to do anything with the gators, whether they want to or not. If they become threatening or are showing up in areas where contact with guests may be a problem, the FWC may remove them, but as many have said already, it's Florida and gators are all over the place, so trying to remove every gator that shows up at WDW would be quite a job.

Well then stay away from resort beaches! I saw a sizeable gator on the Poly beach last year. They are everywhere, not just on Tom Sawyers island. It is Florida, ya know. :)

I dont think its a big issue....Growing up on a lake and still living there in SC we have always had gators around. They will not mess with humans 99 percent of the time. That other one percent is because they are protecting there young or a human is feeding them. I ski and swim as do my 3 and 7 year olds in this lake and we see gators all the time. They are very scared of pretty much anything and will more than likely take off if someone comes around....they dont just attack like the movies show....thats the croc that do that and Nile croc for that matter.....I wouldnt let a gator siting stop you from visiting TSI....just walk with your child and there will be no worries.....Do sharks keep you from the ocean.....snakes from your yard......dogs from riding your bikes.....
