Yes. We rent from National and just drive through the Sunpass lanes and they charge any tolls to our credit card a week or two after our trip. They do add on a service charge which is annoying but not large enough to make it worth it for me to go to the trouble of bringing my EZ Pass on the trip or using the cash lanes. I’m guessing that most of the other car rental companies have a similar system.

If you take 528 to I4 then you can pay cash for the toll. I do that when I rent a car. If I'm driving my car, my NC Quickpass is accepted in FL.

It depends. The most efficient routes involve tolls, either on the 528 or the 417. It is possible to get from the airport to Disney by taking back roads, but you will drive way out of your way.

Definitely find out if your car rental company utilizes a pay by plate system. As a PP mentioned, it can be a convenient way to pay the tolls. However, you also want to know so that you don’t pay cash and then also get billed through the car rental later. That has happened to some people in the past. Also, in some areas, they have been removing the cash lanes and requiring drivers to use a transponder or pay by plate system. Decide on your route before you leave home and then check the Central Florida Expressway Authority website to see if the cash payment option is available.

Every rental company has a pay by plate system, the differentiator is how they charge for it. Some companies charge a flat fee for every day it is used, some companies charge for every day of the rental from the time you first go through a toll until you return the car, some companies charge a ridiculously high fee ($20) on top of each toll if you don't opt in to their daily toll pass service. The best I've seen was I think $4.95 per day you were charged a toll plus the cost of the actual toll, which will always be the highest charge shown for a two axle vehicle.
@buzz2400 My recommendation if you are renting from one of the ten companies with vehicles on site at MCO is to use the Visitor Toll Pass. No additional charges, tolls charged at half the rate of cash and no additional charges.

I second the Visitor Toll Pass - it is super easy. Just download the app and pick up your hang tag at the kiosk in terminal A. Put the car info in the app and once the trip is finished drop off the tag, close your account. You will be charged only for the tolls as long as you return the tag. Not a daily fee as the rental car agencies will do.

is it possible to drive from MCO to Disney Springs and pay tolls by cash?
My other option is to get the Visitor pass, but that means I'm landing in Terminal B, walk to Terminal A, get the pass and then back to Terminal B for the car rental? seems like paying cash would be easier.

Most rental car companies are in both terminals. You can pick-up from either side.

Yes, on 528 there are toll booths. I can't remember for sure if 417 has toll booths, but I vaguely remember paying cash for those tolls. Hopefully someone else can let us know.

There are two tolls between MCO and WDW on 417 (use exit 6, International Drive/World Center Drive for DS), and paying tolls with cash works for both of them, $1.75 cash for each toll.
