I Have been putting this off for a long time because writing it all down would mean that I would have to admit that it was over and in the past. I am such a Disney nerd its pathetic.

If you are a Disney nerd, or close to it you will go to Tokyo Disney Resort and remember it for the rest of your life.

I will include a link to a photo page. Wherever you see an* there will be a corresponding photo at the link.

I have never been around people as polite and helpful as the Japanese I came into contact with on this trip.
No one will stand in front of you at a parade. No one will cut the line. No one will push their kids in front of yours, no one will take flash photos, and if you are lost, the overwhelming majority of the people will bend over backwards to make sure you find your way.

its about 13 1/2 hours from the eastern seaboard and believe it or not if you stay up all night the night before and make sure you get an aisle seat, it is not a bad flight at all! A couple of caveats: Bring an ipod, a laptop, DVDs, and make sure there is a power port at your seat...O.K. maybe the flight is a tad long.

There is a Bus called the Airport Limousine that will take you directly to Tokyo Disney Resort. For about 2400 yen ($21.15) each way, in 50 min or so you are at the *MiraCosta hotel. The MiraCosta is located inside Tokyo DisneySea park.
This place is beautiful!!!!!! It was designed with the exact same Italian theme as my favorite Orlando Hotel, Portifino Bay at USF. The difference is, there is 1000 times more detail. The Japanese went all out with the theme. There are hidden fountains, secluded piazzas, canals and statues. It all has an aged patina, not too much mind you, just enough.
Check in was quick and efficient. The hotel staff is wonderful, and as I said in an earlier post, there is no tipping in Japan. Good service is a matter of pride. Riding up in the elevator to your floor a mickey voice announces the stops in Japanese. Simply Charming.
*The standard rooms are about the size of a room at a moderate WDW resort. They are tasteful and full of hidden Pinnochios. The rooms have motion sensors. The lights go on when you enter. There are no queen beds. You must request double beds if you want them, otherwise you will get 2 large twins. This is common in Japan. The rates during value dates are on a par with the WDW Deluxe Resorts.
There is a walkway that connects to the *Disney monorail which circles the Perimeter of the resort, making stops at the Parks, two official hotels, the Myhama train station and the equivalent of the Downtown Disney Resort area. If you stay at a Disney resort the monorail is free. This monorail is Beautiful. The cars are large well lit and walk through. You can walk from one end of the monorail train to the other. Its like a living room on wheels. Each car has a *show case with a classic piece of Disney memorabilia.
The monorail has no driver! Its automated. You can sit *right up front.

I'm sorry to say I didn't spend much time at Tokyo Disneyland. The most interesting difference is the Main Street area. Its covered with a glass roof. From what I could see most of the rides are very similar to Their counter parts at Disneyland and WDW. For instance Space Mountain is closer to the Disneyland Design while splash was closer to WDW. Pirates Begins like the DL version. You cruise through a restaurant and then the pirate lair. Sound effects are much better than WDW and Tokyo has kept scenes of Pirates chasing and selling "Wenches" in the town square scene.

My Favorite ride in this park is Pooh's Honey Hunt. There are only a very few similarities to it, and the DL and WDW Pooh Ride. The cue winds Its way through giant sized pages from Pooh stories. The ride itself is fantastic! Its fast, its slow, it spins it floats, its as if you were being blown through a pooh story, you feel like you are riding on the wind as you swiftly move from one scene to the next. At times you travel along on the wind with and revolve around two other ride vehicles. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DISNEY RIDES EVER! Classic, cutting edge, and charming.

Well so much for part one! Next Tokyo DisneySea park!

You'll find photos at this link, you will need quicktime to view them. If this becomes an issue for too many folks let me know, I will find another way to post them. Thank you for sharing my trip!

Wow! Thanks Daryl! I can't wait to read the rest. We were considering this for Spring Break next year. Reading your report is making me want to go for sure. But....I just did a little experiment and airfare from here is horrible!!! $2,500 a person, and there are FIVE of us. I will look for better and not mention this to DH.

When did you go? How cold/rainy was it?

Thanks Daryl!
Katy :sunny:

Me again...I just found tickets for 1/2 of that original price...I may bother you for advice as we get closer!
Katy :sunny: :lmao:

Beautiful pics; Tokyo DisneySea has got to be the most beautiful Disney park by far!

Wow! Your pictures are beautiful! Hopefully in a few (several) years we will be able to take a trip out there. Just to see the themeing of DisneySea looks to be worth the price of the trip; it looks incredible!

Yay! :Pinkbounc I've been looking forward to reading your Tokyo trip report! I so enjoyed looking at your pictures, wow! Even for Disney, where we're accustomed to seeing so much detail, this is amazing! The hotel is gorgeous! And everything is so...CLEAN!!! Maybe we'll have to skip a few dozen U.S. Disney trips and save up... :rolleyes1 I noticed that sometimes you were wearing a suit, were you there on business? Can't wait to read part two...

Thanks for the report & photos, Daryl.

Wow! Tokyo DisneySea certainly puts Hong Kong Disneyland to shame.

Katy Belle, there are occasionally nicely discounted fares to Tokyo since so many carriers fly to Narita these days. Try searching Travelocity, but make sure to select the "flexible date" option so you can see when those fares are available. The nice thing about Travelocity is that you can originate outside the US; it's the only search engine that allows this—a must have for us expats!

You may also want to visit AirfareWatchdog.com or TravelZoo.com and subscribe to their e-mail updates. Because of your location, you would be a perfect candidate for an around-the-world fare, which can many times be less expensive than a round-trip fare; travel to the US via Europe and back home via Asia, or vice versa. A good travel agent should be able to help you with that. Good luck!

Everything looks so so nice. I want to go now more than ever!! maybe after i finish school i will reward myself and go. I am going to disney FL for the half way mark in August. When i am all done and a NP midwife I will be taking a trip there with my DH and DS thats for sure!!!!! I think 8 years of school deserves a reward.
until then i will have to re live your experience through your reports :goodvibes

Katy belle, no bother at all. I would be happy to answer your questions, or any others :)

I just got back from Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea myself the beginning of March and stayed at the Mira Costa too!! I went during the only value season of the year (which was only a few weeks).
They are beautiful parks! Thanks for posting your report and pics....brings back recent memories! :goodvibes

Oh Please sir can I have some more!!!
Your pictures are fantastic! I can't wait for my oldest to get home from school. He is going to love this. He has been pushing for a Tokyo trip for the past 3 years(nothing to do with Disney everything to do with Sony/Nintendo)
Thank you so much for sharing your vacation! I can't wait to see more.(details I want details...nothing is too insignificant!)
And you Daryl are one handsome man. :thumbsup2

Daryl,
Thanks for taking the time to post and share your beautiful pictures. I have to go back and look at them again! Did you go there just for DIsney or did work send you there? I would love to get there someday!

Thank you

I AM a Disney nerd, and i WILL visit Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea!!!

Thanks for the report! This is the only Disney resort that I haven't yet visited, and I will get there, gosh darn it! Beautiful pictures!!!

I was originally going for work but the job fell through at the last min. I'm ashamed to say that I have never been out of the country. The preparation of getting a passport and researching the culture, was so exciting. Then the job fell through. Devastating!...O.K. thats a bit much, but I was really sad.
Last year a member of Disboards wrote to me in a post something to the effect of, "you should try new things!". ALthough the poster was talking about staying at the AKL, I really thought about the advice and figured...Why not? :sunny:

Great report!

Did you get to see the show on water? I heard they were discontinuing the show at Port Paradiso?
Disney Sea is like no other parks. My parents' house is only 30min. away on the train from there, so it's my dream to stay at the hotel in Disney Sea!

Thank you!!

PS Did you get the flash light that cast the light shaped Micky's head?

YES! The water show was wonderful! I hope they keep it! No I didn't get the mickey head flashlight, I wish I had! You are lucky to have parents who live so close. Hey, why not plan your next visit home during one of the Resorts value days and stay there for a night or two. Thats my plan. I want to see The Tower of TERROR when it opens...oh, and Kyoto and Mt. Fuji too of course :)

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for sharing.
