I Have been putting this off for a long time because writing it all down would mean that I would have to admit that it was over and in the past. I am such a Disney nerd its pathetic.
If you are a Disney nerd, or close to it you will go to Tokyo Disney Resort and remember it for the rest of your life.
I will include a link to a photo page. Wherever you see an* there will be a corresponding photo at the link.
I have never been around people as polite and helpful as the Japanese I came into contact with on this trip.
No one will stand in front of you at a parade. No one will cut the line. No one will push their kids in front of yours, no one will take flash photos, and if you are lost, the overwhelming majority of the people will bend over backwards to make sure you find your way.
its about 13 1/2 hours from the eastern seaboard and believe it or not if you stay up all night the night before and make sure you get an aisle seat, it is not a bad flight at all! A couple of caveats: Bring an ipod, a laptop, DVDs, and make sure there is a power port at your seat...O.K. maybe the flight is a tad long.
There is a Bus called the Airport Limousine that will take you directly to Tokyo Disney Resort. For about 2400 yen ($21.15) each way, in 50 min or so you are at the *MiraCosta hotel. The MiraCosta is located inside Tokyo DisneySea park.
This place is beautiful!!!!!! It was designed with the exact same Italian theme as my favorite Orlando Hotel, Portifino Bay at USF. The difference is, there is 1000 times more detail. The Japanese went all out with the theme. There are hidden fountains, secluded piazzas, canals and statues. It all has an aged patina, not too much mind you, just enough.
Check in was quick and efficient. The hotel staff is wonderful, and as I said in an earlier post, there is no tipping in Japan. Good service is a matter of pride. Riding up in the elevator to your floor a mickey voice announces the stops in Japanese. Simply Charming.
*The standard rooms are about the size of a room at a moderate WDW resort. They are tasteful and full of hidden Pinnochios. The rooms have motion sensors. The lights go on when you enter. There are no queen beds. You must request double beds if you want them, otherwise you will get 2 large twins. This is common in Japan. The rates during value dates are on a par with the WDW Deluxe Resorts.
There is a walkway that connects to the *Disney monorail which circles the Perimeter of the resort, making stops at the Parks, two official hotels, the Myhama train station and the equivalent of the Downtown Disney Resort area. If you stay at a Disney resort the monorail is free. This monorail is Beautiful. The cars are large well lit and walk through. You can walk from one end of the monorail train to the other. Its like a living room on wheels. Each car has a *show case with a classic piece of Disney memorabilia.
The monorail has no driver! Its automated. You can sit *right up front.
I'm sorry to say I didn't spend much time at Tokyo Disneyland. The most interesting difference is the Main Street area. Its covered with a glass roof. From what I could see most of the rides are very similar to Their counter parts at Disneyland and WDW. For instance Space Mountain is closer to the Disneyland Design while splash was closer to WDW. Pirates Begins like the DL version. You cruise through a restaurant and then the pirate lair. Sound effects are much better than WDW and Tokyo has kept scenes of Pirates chasing and selling "Wenches" in the town square scene.
My Favorite ride in this park is Pooh's Honey Hunt. There are only a very few similarities to it, and the DL and WDW Pooh Ride. The cue winds Its way through giant sized pages from Pooh stories. The ride itself is fantastic! Its fast, its slow, it spins it floats, its as if you were being blown through a pooh story, you feel like you are riding on the wind as you swiftly move from one scene to the next. At times you travel along on the wind with and revolve around two other ride vehicles. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DISNEY RIDES EVER! Classic, cutting edge, and charming.
Well so much for part one! Next Tokyo DisneySea park!
You'll find photos at this link, you will need quicktime to view them. If this becomes an issue for too many folks let me know, I will find another way to post them. Thank you for sharing my trip!
