Tokyo Dining and Biergarten Menu Help

Hoping someone can lend a hand with our dining. This is a last minute trip to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday on Thursday and my son's 6th on Wednesday. We've made ADRs at Biergarten (lunch) and Tokyo Dining (evening). We've never eaten at either restaurant before. I think Biergarten is a buffet right? Any favorites that we should especially try? Also for Tokyo Dining - we've never eaten sushi. We love salmon and smoked fish. Can someone suggest menu items that are not raw or perhaps a real sushi that we should try? I know we would not care for the rare meat dishes. How do you order from the menu there? Is it like a tapas restaurant? Please share your favorites at both places.

Biergarten is a buffet and it is delicious. I love the pretzel rolls and basically everything!

I thought Toyko was hibachi style?

no Tokyo Dining is the one in the front- the sushi/tempura bar. And it was GREAT when we went. There are plenty of non-sushi options-
I had the tempura and it was fabulous. light and perfect. It's lightly fried items. yummy.

Oh and when we went the kids were able to order from the grill side- stir fried chicken and veggies.

Thank you so much for the replies. We will try the pretzel rolls - probably would not have if you hadn't suggested it.

The Tempura sounds great also and I'm grateful to hear their are some kids items available. I had no clue about these 2 restaurants so thanks again.

Biergarten is a "must do" every trip for my family. The food is buffet. They have everything from cold salads to chicken shnitzel. The pretzel bread is yummy & the desserts are too.

The show is great. Lots of fun german music & they even invite you to the front of the restaurant to dance with your kids.

Some find the long tables to be the downside as you have to share your table with another family if you are a party of less than 8. However we have always met nice people willing to chat (ok once we had a sourpuss couple who just seemed to hate the whole thing). We love it.

Our Biergarten experience turned us off the place for good. We too had to share our table and got the rednecks from hell. They were loud and cursing. The Father was drunk out of his mind and the kids had mouths like sailors. My kids were the entire time.
The father eventually was "escorted" out but by that time our meal was over. we had complained and requested a move but since we were there first and had started our meal already we were out of luck.

The entertainment is great fun- but the food didn't do it for us that night in the past it's been good and if you luck out with a great table it can be great.

Just stay away from the drunks! We won't go back - afraid to risk it.

For a first time attempt at sushi I reccomend Tuna - I tried it for the first time at Disney 4 years ago, and have been semi-addicted ever since - I can't go more than a couple of months without hitting my favorite sushi bar now. Tuna is not chewy at all, and melts in your mouth - it does not have the slimy texture that raw fish sometimes does. I have since tried other kinds but Tuna is my favorite. You may also want to try a cooked version such as a California Roll (Crab), or Dynamite Roll (tempura Shrimp roll) - these are very popular as well.

As for Biergarten - I am in the great debate over this - I am tring to decide whether to cancel Coral Reef to try Biergarten. I have been to Coral Reef before and although I really like the atmosphere I found the menu just average...but my BF has never been so I was thinking I should take him there just for the novelty of eating in front of a giant aquarium....still haven't decided but I still have time - our trip isn't until Aug 09.

Oh my gosh! We were looking forward to sitting with people we didn't know. I hope we don't have the same experience that you did! Part of the reason we travel so much is to meet new and different people but I don't think I'd like to be at a table with everyone cursing for my childrens' bdays. My 5 turning 6 year old would probably pipe up and say "hey watch your language!"

I wanted to add though the time BEFORE that one we had a great table! It was mostly college students and they were great fun! I think we just got stuck with the loser table that night. Our mojo was off.

For what its worth, our BG experience was completely delightful. We were worried having a fussy not-quite-3-yr-old that we were going to be "that family", but the crew we were sat with had a 3 year old too! They were quite happy to place the young'ins together and let them "chat"..I think that any place you go has a "risk" of badly behaving people.....heck, I see 'em at the local grocery store! Whatever you choose, you'll have a great time!

They are both excellent choices. We ALWAYS go to Biergarten when visiting. We enjoy the buffet and the entertainment. I do agree that sometimes sitting at a table with a bunch of the other people can seem awkward but after you strike up a conversation with them it becomes enjoyable. Besides you'll find that the other people feel out of place and most likely will keep to themselves.
