Toddlers Not Wearing Swim Diapers

I think many of us do care.

The problem is that parents whose children have had their kids trained for a LONG time are being told (by implying) that they do not care about public health b/c they refuse to put their child in a swim diaper or equivilant.

A child still at high risk for accidents..isn't necessarily trained and that parent should put their child in a diaper.

Refusing to put a trained child into a swim diaper (known to the child or under the disguise of "special disney swimwear")....is not the same as saying public health be darned and making a willful attempt to destroy someone's vacation b/c there afternoon got ruined by a pool closure.

This is a lovely post and bears repeating. Good grief--DD was trained at less than two and I was not putting her in a swim diaper to please other people. DS was 26 months when we did go on DCL. He was trained and had been for 4 months and never, even WHILE I considered him in the process of training had an accident. (I know--bizarre) He also loved to swim and was pretty proficient. I did not put him in a swim diaper and let him swim in the main part of the Mickey pool. One mom did point out to me that nonpotty trained kids were supposed to stay in one ear as did a lifeguard/CM/whatever. I told them he was potty trained and they left it at that. Though the mom did add "Lucky you! How'd you pull that off??" So, back to the OP even if someone asks you about it I wouldn't worry unless they happen to be wearing lime green! :thumbsup2

I haven't read all the whole thread yet, when it started I was on the Wonder where they do require children to be potty trained to go in the pool. No swim diapers.

I do have a 2 year old who is potty trained and has been for a number of months. Part of her motivation to be potty trained was so she could swim on the cruise (and enter the kids club.)

All I know is I saw kids on the beach in swim diapers in the morning, and the same kids in the afternoon with no diaper on in the pool in the afternoon. Maybe the parents kept the swim pant on at the beach because it was farther from the restrooms, but my guess is they knew they couldn't swim in the pool so they just took it off. My 2 year old DD is very small for her age and we had a number of comments by people who could not believe she was potty trained. We were asked by many cast members too. I also have a DD who wasn't potty trained until she was over 3 years old, it just works both ways depending on the kid. No big deal.

I think the DCL rule of no swim diapers just urges parents to take them off when they do need them. :rolleyes1

The thing is putting on pull ups or swim diapers is a step backwards. If I did on my potty trained kids they were pretty smart, they would just pee in them because it was easy. It did cause problems. If I put a swim diaper on my kid they would be more likely to pee in it, getting pee in the pool. I wouldn't put a child who I felt confident in their abilities in a swim diaper. I would just be sure they used the potty every hour or so.

WDW does not have any rule about swim diapers, other then if the child wears a diaper, it has to have special swim one to enter the pool, not normal ones. As every person knows the age of potty training can very greatly, not every child is the same.

I know most on this board talk about their children being potty trained, but I remember reading on the DIS about a poster meeting the person who tested the pool water at all the hotels. The tester recommended not swimming at the All Star pools since not all the kids who were swimming were potty trained. :scared1: :scared1:

I'm shutting this one down folks. Everybody out of the pool
