Am taking DD and granddaughter to the World in January. DGD will have just turned two. (I have always said this is too young to take a child), but I can't resist her. Any suggestions on the best way to handle the parks without making it too overstimulating or overwhelming? We will be staying at AKL for three nights.

Any tips will be appreciated.

Two is NOT too young. Just pace yourself - don't try to do everything - and take frequent breaks to grab a bite and a drink. Remember to leave time to watch the birdies and chase wrappers rolling along the ground. For a 2 yo this can be as much fun as hugging Pooh.

And, bring or rent a stroller!

Enjoy.

The Family Board has lots of hints and advice for all ages, you may want to try over there. I am taking DGS (2 1/2) and bascially have packed what we would normally pack for his "going to Grandma's bag" PLUS extras. We plan on letting him set the pace. I have a few character meals scheduled because as much as he LOOOOVEEEEEES Mickey, Goofy, etc. when they were at the local mall he didn't want them near him. He was happy to be held by his Dad and wave and blow kisses but he didn't want any close contact--I couldn't even get him close enough to get in the same picture. So the first meal or two will either let him get used to seeing the life sized characters or let me know not to waste time in lines to meet characters.

We took our 2 yr old last April (and are headed back again) and it was so much fun. An afternoon nap was the big key for him and not pushing things. We had lots of fun people watching and just sitting and relaxing while DH and DS9 (now 10) went and did some rides without us. He was leary of the characters, at first, until he saw Pooh, and after that he became a character monster. LOL just have to remember to let them set the pace and it's ok to miss things. And yes! the strollers are a must! Good luck and enjoy!

When I travelled with toddlers, I made sure there was time for the playgrounds. Each themepark has one. At MK, there's a playground in Toonstown and a small one on Toms Sawyers Island (which, by itself, is a playground for toddlers). In Epcot, there is a nice playground in Norway. At MGM, the Honey I shrunk the Kids has a playground.. although large and hard to keep track of the kids. ANd then, the best I think for toddlers, is the Animal Kingdom Boneyard.

Character breakfasts were great, if they aren't terrified of characters that is. Just walking around is cool. The street shows at Epcot are great for toddlers because YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THEM OUT OF THE STROLLER! This is a huge plus if they're sleeping.. that way you can enjoy the entertainment. At MK, there was Storytime with Belle, which my kids enjoyed (but it can get very hot there.) Taking the boats, monorail and busses were big hits with my toddlers. And if there is time and the weather cooperates, there's the hotel pool. You will have a blast with your toddlers, there is so much to do that they will enjoy.

Enjoy!
