What a crummy first Valentine's Day for DS, huh? He has his 9 month check-up this afternoon and he is scheduled to get 3 shots. :(

I hate shot days! I know it is for his own good but the thought of him being in any pain just kills me. I dred these appointments.

If you could send him some shot pain relief pd this afternoon I am sure he would appreciate it!

Poor little punkin. Sending him (and you) some PD. :D

Poor thing....I'm in the same boat as you with my 2yo. Today is his checkup, though I don't remember if there are shots scheduled this time or not. Poor little guys, they never know what's coming. But aahmom is right after a minute or two they've forgotten all about it.

I'll be thinking of your little Nathan while my little Zachary cries...

Bleech! Our ped recommends giving the kids Tylenol right before the shot is administered and keep up the recommended doses for 24hrs...I was wondering if you do that? It did seem to lessen symptoms in dd.

i was going to say the same as MysteryMachine. my pediatrician told me to give DS tylenol before we came into the office. he said there was no reason he should suffer and that the tylenol would lessen the pain.

pain free pixie dust on its way **~**~**~**~**

Oh, I feel for you and your little guy! Yesterday I had to take DD in for her 4-year old checkup and she got 3 booster shots. It was a horror show! She remembers going to the dr's when she had kidney reflux and had to have all the tests and shots. I had to drag her kicking and screaming into the exam room - not a pretty sight! I even had to hold her down when the dr. did her (very quick!) exam. She was just settling down when they came in with the shots! The two nurses were great tho. I held DD on my lap and held her two wrists tight. They got in front of her so she couldn't kick. And them bam, bam, bam, the shots were done. I knew when every one went in because the intensity of DD's screams went up! Yes, I did have tears in my eyes! After that she started screaming - "I want to go home NOW!!!" So we left. :) All the way home she kept telling me that she did NOT want to go for a check-up any more! She'll go back when she's 5, but no more shots until 7th grade..phew!

Becka, it will be harder for YOU than DS! So hard to see your child scared and in pain. If one is the MMR, then it does sting a bit. DId they suggest you give him some tylenol before the visit? Your little one will be just fine in a short time - as soon as you hold him. Today DD is showing off her 3 band-aids as her badges of courage. So funny how my drama queen can make her voice change and get all teary-eyed when she tells her Dad about her ordeal.

Yes we always give him the Tylenol before and for 24 hrs. after. I know he forgets about it soon but I think at his age the worst part is that he does not know it is coming and he doesn't understand what it is.

Plus he has to have so many. Right after one shot he is crying and then he gets another and then another all in different places. I can only imagine that he must be in fear. He doesn't know what is happening and doesn't know when it is going to end. :(
